My friends and I had a great time on the water with Ritchie. He is very knowledgeable about the area and personable. The sunrise was absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our swim and tour through the various parts of the lagoon. I definitely recommend the tour. Side note, we later enjoyed a private boat tour with Ritchie of other parts of the lagoon and the rapids in the evening - equally magical!

    Unsafe and a terrible “guide”

    Jennifer_S, Nov 2024
Where to begin… I am someone who can always find the positives but this was the worst tour I have ever experienced - so gutted having read a number of very positive reviews. This was not a tour, as no information on the area or nature was given. We were asked to arrive at 5:15am but our guide didn’t arrive until 5:50am so we were outside in pitch black waiting. There was no welcome or explanation of what to expect or any kind of safety briefing or instruction on using the boats. We booked this tour to learn about the history and nature of the area but despite what the listing said our guide barely spoke English so the morning consisted of following him and occasionally stopping while he pointed and said “bird”. We didn’t even realise we had been through the Canal De Los Piratas until we googled it afterwards as our guide didn’t tell us. When we asked him about the canal he gestured that it was further down the lagoon and said “pirates… 600” which I can only assume meant there were pirates there 600 years ago. No other information was given. The other couple on our “tour” were paddle boarding but in the wind the current was strong and they often struggled to keep up but our guide had no concern for them and kept zooming off ahead to text someone thinking we wouldn’t notice. At one point he was so far ahead we all lost sight of him and it was 10 minutes before we caught up with him when he finally stopped. We arrived back to the marina with the guide 20 minutes before the other couple who were left to fend for themselves. If one of them had an accident no help would have been available. No snorkelling equipment was provided. Instead were given 10 minutes for a quick swim while our guide went off to play frisbee in the water with some blokes. The guide did take a few photos of us on his phone but a GoPro was never going to happen. The promised snacks and water were not provided and we only received breakfast which was a handful of chopped fruit once we arrived back to the marina. There was no toast, juice or energy bar as advertised. To top it all off we had dreadful weather which can’t be helped, but we didn’t even get the beautiful sunrise to make the trip worth it. Honestly, save the money and disappointment and opt for another provider or just hire a kayak locally by yourself!

    Magical sunrise

Stars to sunrise on a kayak! What's not to love

    Ben_C, Nov 2023
Great tour, so cool to be out on the lagoon in the pitch black and watch the stars turn into the sunset :)

    Worst experience ever!!!

When I contact the provider 1 week ago, to the tour provider asked me to show up at 5:30 am. However, he didn't show up. Try multiple times to contact him via WhatsApp and calls, wait for 40 mins. No response until now. Totally waste our time and ruin our day.

    Non-transparent sunrise kayaking

    Vickie_V, May 2023
There was no transparent kayaks, just regular that was offered. When asked, a man on the phone gave us some BS excuses. Our guide didn't speak much English so all we did was follow him and stopped when he stopped. English is the universal language... he would have earned tips if he provided more information. They did provide a dry bag, a small bottle of water, and granola type bar before going into the water. For breakfast, we were given 1 mango, Bimbo toast with coffee of peanut butter, jam or Nutella spread along with instant coffee. Don't expect too much in Mexico otherwise you'll be disappointed. The sunrise & lagoon view was spectacular but nothing that you couldn't do on your own if you rent the kayak from your own hotel.

Nice tour but no drone / pictures as promised

    Julia_s, Jan 2023
The tour itself was very nice, we left early so we were in the middle of the lagoon for the sunrise. The breakfast afterwards was good aswell. BUT: I booked the tour especially because the description said there were pictures of a drone & GoPro included. We didn’t even have a drone with us and as of today I’m still waiting on the link for the pictures they were supposed to send the same day. I also didn’t got a Glasboot since I was travelling solo. Anyway the transperate boots had their days so you badly can see anything through them.

    The Kayak Tour was too...

    Clive_B, Feb 2022
The Kayak Tour was too stretched for Beginners (We had a few beginners thay really struggled and slowed everything down) As soon as you have cloudy weather or wind it really gets super cold, so that wasn't their fault but also not pleasant. Much rather do a daytour. The guide was nice but not taking care of the Beginners at all, he was always seeming to be bored of them and couldn't be arsed to help them properly. No instructions were given as well.

Not great but no complaints about the guide.

    Marg_L, Dec 2021
The guide was good. The kayaks and paddles were terrible. I don’t recommend this tour very highly. The kayaks are not safe unless in totally plate water. If windy you are done

Magical and a definite must-do in Bacalar

    Julianne_S, Dec 2021
Good communication via WhatsApp. Reliable and professional. The sunrise was absolutely spectacular and our guide timed it perfectly. I couldn't have asked for a more positive and magical experience. Breakfast, snacks, water, phone covers, and waterproof bags provided. Can't wait to see the drone and gopro footage!

    Expérience décevante

    Soreya_S, Jul 2024
