This was a lovely private visit with a family in Alta. It included transportation to the farm. While there we were given a beautiful sleigh ride around their farm. They provided warm blankets. After we were taken into a wood fire heated tent and were served fresh meats, cinnamon buns and coffee and tea. The buns were amazing. We then had a chance to visit the barn to see more horses and sheep. The women running the experience were very friendly and we felt very comfortable and welcomed. At the end we were transported back to our ship by Marit and she gave us some history of the town and saw some beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend this excursion if you would like an intimate and relaxing experience.

This family run farm was so beautiful and so were our hosts. Sleighride thru the property in the snow was fabulous. We were treated to coffee and a snack after the ride and got to meet some of the sheep and hear a bit about what it's like to run a farm and live in the Arctic.

We were collected near our cruise ship with another couple. Driven by one of the daughters to their family farm. The 4 of us got in a wooden horse drawn sleigh. The other daughter took us for a lovely ride through the snow, around their farm. We then went in a Sami style tent for a tapas meal.
The food was great, salmon, reindeer, cheese, cloudberry chutney etc.
Then we went to see the horses and sheep. They love to be stroked.
Through the whole trip we heard about local life, which was interesting.
We were then driven back to the port.
This is a fantastic trip that we didn’t want to end.
The family are lovely and welcoming.
They only take small groups, just the 4 of us that day, which was great.
Our favourite trip of the holiday.

Our first trip for our first full day in all tar. Fantastic hosts in a fantastic landscape this trip is ideal for families who wish to experience Norway. The drive out to the farm was incredibly insightful and we got to see beautiful landscapes Fields and some lost reindeer. The slave ride was incredibly peaceful and relaxing and we had wonderful photos with beautiful horses. It was great to go around the farm and in the barn to see the sheep and the other animals as well as their barn cat. I hosts put on a fantastic lunch made up of local foods have lovely drunks in front of a lovely hot fire. It was exciting to hear about the wildlife around and the industry of farming knowing that links and Eagles are around us on the mountain Side. This trip is ideal for young families who wish to experience norway living and meet wonderful people as well as taste wonderful food.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and met the horses that would be pulling our wagon, they were very friendly and gorgeous! We got into the wagon and had blankets to sit on and to put over your lap, we set off and had a lovely ride around the woods, it was just getting dark and the colours in the sky were great.
We got back to the farm and went into the tent, which had an open fire and was lovely and warm. We were given a plate of different foods to try and had water, tea and coffee.
We then went into the barn to meet the other horses and some naughty shetlands! We also met the sheep and a lovely cat!
The minibus picks you up from the ship and drops you back again. It’s a great experience, one I won’t forget and I would definitely recommend.

Excellent pick up and journey from the port, to Viggo's family farm.
Really relaxing experience, beautiful scenery, comfortable carriage ride, very tasty food and wonderful company talking with Annika and Viggo about their family life on the farm.
It was a small group of 7 people so it was personal and friendly.
Loved meeting the animals and talking with the family.
After 2.5hrs Viggo drove us back to the port, even took a longer route to share some local history and sing us a Norwegian song.
Fantastic insight into Norwegian life with such a nice welcoming family.
Would recommended this experience to everyone.

We were collected by private taxi from the cruise terminal and received a warm welcome from the family on arrival. The sleigh ride was amazing through beautiful scenery and all the time we were learning about life on the farm and in Norway. When we got back there was a warm welcome in the Tee Pee with delicious snacks and warm drinks. We were made to feel very special and the family work so hard and truly lover their animals. This is definitely an experience we would do again.

We were the only couple on an evening tour. It was magical taking the sleigh ride around the property. The stars in the sky were brilliant.
The owners treated us so kindly. The sheep farm is very interesting to see. We had an amazing meal provided by the owners and warmed up inside their Sami tent. We highly recommend this tour for anyone!

Their description doesn't do it justice! The sleigh ride was wonderful, the "tapas" meal was incredible - a wide variety of Norwegian treats, including some grown on the farm and picked in their woods. The tour of the working family farm was interesting, fun, educational. This is the real deal! The owners are extremely kind and helpful. It was an absolutely lovely trip and worth every penny.

This is a very enjoyable experience at a family farm just outside of Tromso. The sleigh ride was delightful and the tapas were tasty. The family was welcoming and enjoyed showing and telling us a little about their life and raising sheep.

Wonderful being able to be up close and touch the ponies and sheep, and to learn how a small family sheep farm operates. Local food - sausage, meat, cheese was wonderful, and sleigh ride was beautiful.

This is Barbara R instead of Garry (he was not feeling well, so I decided to go on my own). To my surprise, I had a completely individualized experience and the family of Omdal Gard could not have been more gracious and hospitable. I was picked up at the cruise ship and driven to the farm--they are most accommodating for pick-up points.
The day was a winter wonderland fantasia for this Florida girl and I was entranced by the sleighride through the snowy woods in below freezing weather. They helped me bundle up in a snowsuit over my own coat and added hat, wool cape and mittens. After the sleigh ride, we went into the tent (tipi?) where there was a warm fire, hot tea, and delicious tapas (fresh-caught salmon, reindeer and lamb meat with homemade lingonberry jam). Then a short walk to the barn to visit the sheep and some of the horses along with a discussion of the workings of the farm year-round.
I very much enjoyed talking with Annika and her parents as they shared information about their lives in far north Norway. I'm so glad I had this experience--it was a wonderful, memorable part of a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and I highly recommend it.

Wonderful day visiting the Family Farm. We enjoyed our wagon ride (not enough snow for the sleigh) and wonderful tapas in the TeePee by the fire. Very peaceful and beautiful area off the beaten path outside the city. Highly recommend.

What an experience! We were driven to a Norwegian farm and got to see the sheep and learn how they work the farm. We took a horse driven ride for a few miles and saw some amazing countryside. We then were treated to a roaring fire in a teepee with a sample of Norwegian food and hot and cold drinks. The family joined us and told us some of the history and stories of the family farm. I felt I learned so much about Norway and how people make their living. I would definitely recommend this tour. The family operating this tour was awesome.

This was the highlight of our Norwegian cruise and is the best excursion we have ever take. What distinguishes this experience is the welcoming effort of Omdal Gard, their soft spoken explanation of farm life, sharing with us their pets—cat, dogs, sheep, Sami horses, etc. We went on a ride in a horse drawn sleight which Viggo had built 20 years sgo, but was so well maintained that it was like new. My wife has chronic back problems and they adjusted both the seat padding and the route to make the experience comfortable for her. Along the way Viggo highlighted local wildflowers and trees., pointing out that the willows were suffering because sheep and other animals stripped them of their bark which has medicinal benefits. Two Sami horses which were graving in an adjacent field same up to greet us, then ran parallel to our sleigh until they reached the end of their field. At the end of the ride we we t into a large, Sami style teepee which had a fire of birch and alder cracking to warm us. The meal served was exceptional—from the fish soup which was chocked full of locally soursed mussles, shrimp, scallop, cod, etc to the two plates of local meats, cheeses,crab, salad.It ended with cinnamon buns served with clotted cream. It was our best meal in Norway, by far.

Perfection just about sums it up. We booked the sleigh ride with tapas meal as a private excursion from our February 2023 Northern Lights cruise rather than the ship offered excursion, and we are so glad we did!!!! We expected a short sleigh ride and some nibbles. What we received was the warm hospitality of the owners themselves, a family on a true working farm, a beautiful sleigh ride through white snow with warm blankets, and a meal that words could do not justice. Fresh carved and prepared foods, home baked breads and treats and fresh seafood was only topped by the warmth of our hosts. The tour is offered with and without the food option but do yourselves the favor and go for the "tapas". I would have those "tapas" as my meal every week!!!!
