Pick up from port by friendly driver, Thor and driven to the beautiful farm in stunning scenery.
The family are really friendly and welcoming chatting about the animals and their way of life.
The sleigh ride was perfect and the horses beautiful.
Home baked warm cinnamon buns and cured meats with a hot drink were served in the cosy Sami tent.

From pick up from the port to the family Farm. Thor the driver told us a little history about Alta. He was very welcoming.
The family farm we got a lovely welcome a beautiful scenic sleigh ride. Then a hot drink with beautiful homemade cinnamon buns. A lovely chat around the fire. Wonderful didn't want it to end. Highly recommend. Thank you for a beautiful morning.

This may have been the highpoint of our trip. We were on a cruise and had already seen the northern lights several times - but this experience was special - it turned out that we were the only two people on this tour and Vigo picked us up at the cruise dock meeting place. The drive to the farm was only about 35 minutes. Upon arrival at the farm, his daughter and granddaughter were waiting with the Norwegian Fjord Horse- drawn sleigh and they drove us around the farm for about 40 minutes. It was a cold (around 20 degrees (F)) evening and the sky was clear. The ride was beautiful and quiet and then they took us to their "lavvu" for some homemade cinnamon buns and sheep sausage and hot tea/chocolate. We also got a tour of the barn with their horses and sheep as this is primarily a sheep farm. Three generations live and work on the farm. The family was delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. On the way back, Vigo spotted the northern lights just before we got on the main highway and we had our last look at the spectacular aurora before getting back to the ship. This was a very special outing and i would highly recommend this to others.

The pick up was easy and relatively close to our docked cruise ship. Viggo transported us to and from Alta to the farm and shared information along the way. Incredible scenery seen along the way. Such gracious hosts and the sleigh ride was magical. Got to see the sheep and horses and learn about the farm. It was truly a wonderful experience.

This was the last of the shore excursions we had through Viator. It was most definitely the coldest, but quickly became our favorite. The owner of the farm picked us up at our cruise port and shuttled us off to his farm way out in the country far from city lights. The temperature was 14 below Fahrenheit. We arrived at the farm and were greeted by some of his three generation family. The beautiful and magnificent Norwegian Fjord horse was waiting for us. We got in the sleigh and were guided by the farmer’sdaughter through the snowy field under a clear starry sky. We were able to enjoy and photograph the aurora borealis throughout the ride. Afterwards they invited us into their Lavvu hut to warm up and enjoy some homemade goodies. Finally we went into the barn to meet many of their animals: several Norwegian horses, and many sheep. We enjoyed learning more about the animals and getting to pet them. But the best part was meeting the farm family and learning about their country, home, and culture.. we felt like welcome guests, not tourists.

A very special Norwegian family takes you for a glimpse of their life on a farm outside of Alta Norway. They live in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. Getting to and from you will see more of the area of Alta, seeing the Fjord, tunneling through mountains, noticing where cooper mining had once taken place, and if lucky, could see military remnants from WWII.
Depending on Seasonal arrival at the Farm, a horse will be harnessed to various covered wagons or a sled. Arriving in Fall, I traveled via a comfortable wagon, with soft furs on seating and a nice warm blanket. Viewing was spectacular, the air was so clean, the combination of the farmer and his granddaughter was pleasant and I learned much about the area, their sheep farming and family.
Arriving back I was escorted into what I would call an extremely well made Lavvu. Beautiful on the inside, large with a fire burning, we enjoyed treats that were simply delicious. The family again opened up to questions as to their life. I couldn’t remember when I had such a peaceful experience such as this before.

Amazing experience. Nice long sleigh ride in beautiful location plus homemade cinnamon buns and drinks. Met the horses, sheep and the cat. The transfer was excellent as well. Really pleased we booked. Couldn’t ask for more!

The sleigh ride with two beautiful Norwegian horses was amazing. After the sleigh ride, our host Anniken welcomed us to their lavvu, served us hot drinks, cured meats and cinnamon rolls and told us stories about farm life in Alta. Anniken and her family were very warm and hospitable.. She also showed us their sheep farm, which was a plus. Her granddaughter, Hannah, was very nice and engaging. Her mom said she really enjoys having people come and visit their farm. We highly recommend this tour for anyone planning a trip to Alta, Norway.

This was the highlight of our cruise trip. Four of us were picked up from the ship by the farm owner and it had been snowing heavily and was still snowing. However, our host drove very safely and we arrived at the farm and et up with our sleigh driver and horse. We then had a sleigh ride around the perimeter of the farm snuggled up under blankets with thick snow all around. Back at the farm we were offered fresh coffee, a freshly baked cinnamon bun and some cured meats, all whilst seated around a roaring fire pit inside a sami tent. It was great getting to know the farm owners and how things work in Norway for farmers. We then went and had a good look around the barns where the horses and sheep are kept and all the animals were remarkably friendly. The ewes were pregnant and lambing not too far off. It was obvious that the owners were passionate about their farm and really cared for their livestock. We were then taken back to the ship.

This was a lovely family farm experience. The sleigh ride was short, cozy, and comfortable, a definite plus for my senior mother. The homemade cinnamon buns were delicious, and our tour was filled with stories, memories, and an obvious love for the way of life. It was not cheap, but we were happy to support a local family-owned farm in the good work they are doing.

This is a really wonderful excursion which we completely recommend. It's an authentic outing to a family farm, about 20mins drive into the countryside from Alta. The welcome is very friendly, the experience of the sled ride (pulled by one of the farm's Fjord horses) is unforgettable, and the fireside snacks are delicious. We loved the home-baked cinammon buns and the local cured meats.
Our ride on the sled was by moonlight, in the snow, through the surrounding fields and along the river. Magical.
The hosts speak excellent English and are totally happy to chat, explain their way of life, the local history, info about their animals and more.
We even got to see the Northern Lights at the end of our evening - but it would have been very special, even if that hadn't happened.
Excellent value for money. Great door-to-door service: collected us from the port and brought us back in plenty of time.

The pony sleigh experience was wonderful from start to finish. Our driver Rune was welcoming and informative. Anniken and her family made every part of the experience enjoyable from the sleigh ride, snack and hot drink to meeting the ponies and sheep. The family are amazing and their love and care for the animals lovely to see.
Communication prior to the trip was swift and helpful.
I would recommend this very highly. It was certainly a highlight and wonderful memory of our trip to Norway.

The ride in the sleigh through woodland was magical. The horses were beautiful. We were made very welcome from the family. It was lovely to sit by a log fire and enjoy the snacks.

A great outdoor experience in a fur lined sleigh. Pick up from port and taken expertly by four wheel car to a family farm….followed first by introduction to livestock….sheep housed in large warm barn and then by hot drinks and snacks in Sami lavuu.

Family run business, pick up at the dock gate by the ship at time advised, and group of 5 transported in a 7 seater 4x4 to their farm in the mountains, 30 mins away. Weather idilic, no wind, thick snow covering and scenery like a Xmas card scene. However you must have suitable winter clothing, many layers as temperature was -25c at the farm. Blankets provided for the 40 min sleigh ride and not cold. We were shown around the stables and sheep pens afterwards and then it was hot coffee and buns as advertised. In all about 2 3/4 hours, very friendly and knowledgeable hosts and would recommend this excursion as an alternative to ship organised tours. Small group tours are much more personal

Very easy to book and they waited for us even though the experience started at 10am and our ship only docked at 10am. We were driven by Dad to the farm with lots of interesting facts on the way about Alta, Norwegian life and his history. On the way he explained that due to lack of snow the sleigh had to be swapped for a carriage (hand built by him). It was raining so we were actually pleased as the carriage had a roof! The ride was lovely with explanations about the farm. They also provided blankets to put over us and to sit on.
After 30 minutes we got back to the farm and taken into the sami for coffee and wonderful cinnamon rolls ( cooked by mum) and colds cuts of meat. We chatted to his daughter about the farm,the northern lights and lots of other things. We then went to meet the sheep who were inside protected for the winter (although they can go outside if they want to). We also met the horse who pulled out carriage and her daughters which was great. Afterwards Dad took us on a slightly longer journey back to the ship and showed us the local church and other interesting points.
I'm sorry I can't remember their names but the whole family are lovely. We were the only 2 on this trip. I would throughly recommend booking this experience.

We were given very clear instructions where to meet. We were picked up by taxi near to the cruise ship and were driven to the Artic farm. We were welcomed warmly by Anniken and the family. The two Norwegian fjord horses were so calm and the jingle of the bells on their harnesses made the sleigh ride even more exciting. It was so peaceful in the beautiful snow covered forest. We warmed up in the Lavuu and and enjoyed the tea, snacks of cured meat and delicous home made cinnamon buns. Anniken shared her stories of farm life which was very informative. We were also given a tour of the barn and stables. We got to see the sheep and pat the horses. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this tour!

A wonderful experience in such beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We were picked up by taxi near to the cruise ship and had very clear instructions as to where to meet. At the farm we were greeted by Anniken and Marit. Marit took us on a wonderful sleigh ride with one of their horses and Anniken entertained us after in the lavuu with hot drinks, cured meats and the most delicious cinnamon buns, made by their mother. Anniken then showed us around the sheep and horses. We met Viggo briefly but everyone were very friendly.

The family at Omdal Gard have a wonderful farm and beautiful Norwegian Fjord horses that pulled 8 of us through the fresh fallen snow with ease with the Northern Lights high in the skies.
