On July 15, we took the Crathes Castle and Highland Boundary Geology tour with Steve, owner of Scotland on the Rocks GeoTours, and it was one of the best shore excursions we've experienced!
Everything was extremely well organized from the moment we left the ship. Steve's communication made it easy to find the group, and the day got off to a perfect start.
Steve's passion for Scotland's geology is infectious. Instead of simply lecturing, he made the tour interactive with a fun bingo-style field guide that had everyone identifying geological features along the way. Using rock samples and easy-to-understand explanations, he brought millions of years of Scotland's history to life and made learning genuinely enjoyable.
Crathes Castle was a wonderful stop, full of history and character, but the real surprise was the spectacular gardens. They were beautifully maintained and offered plenty of opportunities to wander and take photos. The combination of the castle and the gardens, made this part of the day every bit as memorable as the geology.
Steve also provided drinks and snacks throughout the tour, and everyone received a cute little teddy bear at the end—a thoughtful touch that reflected the fun, friendly atmosphere he created.
If you're visiting Aberdeen and want something more engaging than a typical sightseeing excursion, we highly recommend Scotland on the Rocks GeoTours. Steve has created a tour that is educational, interactive, beautifully paced, and simply a lot of fun.
This wasn't just another shore excursion—it was an experience we'll remember for years to come!
