A beautiful morning spent in the gardens

    Maria_B, Mar 2026
Give yourself a couple of hours to enjoy it all. The cafe ihas been closed for a couple of years so take a drink with you. Lots of wonderful trees and we would hope to be back when all the colours are on show .

    Unfortunately couldn’t...

    Kirsty_N, Mar 2026
Unfortunately couldn’t visit as planned as relative came out of hospital early- have been to garden before and enjoyed visit - too late to reschedule unfortunately.

    Lovely Day Out

    Kirsten_W, Aug 2021
Gradens are beautiful and relaxing. Kids loved the wooden play area and spotting the different wildlife.

    A wonderful wander

    Philip_C, Jul 2021
It was just a wonderful walk in the sunshine as I meandered from one zone to another. But I didn't have time to visit the glass house - so I will need to go back.

Botanic gardens in serious need of care and attention. Very expensive price for what we saw. Especially at this time of year where you would expect gardens to be in full bloom!

    Lovely place

    Rachael_M, Jul 2021
Lovely place to visit, the gardens are beautiful, well maintained and the staff friendly. Things for kids to spot too out in the gardens and the cafe is great too

    Great

    Paul_B, Jul 2021
Straight in to gardens, no fuss, quick, just what you want when you arrive, perfect. Worked perfectly.

    Lovely place to visit!

    Louise_K, Jun 2021
Lovely experience, with lots to see and really friendly volunteers. Would highly recommend a visit and to go into to greenhouses and the cafe too! Lots of precautions for Covid-19, which made the whole experience feel safe and easy. Will definitely go again!

    Worth a visit! Unexpected "treasure"

    Alfred_C, Jun 2021
It's a really well planned out garden to walk and far larger than I expected. Lots of seating for quiet reflection. There were a wide range of plants and trees everywhere, and the hothouse was amazing. Good views of Dundee airport too!

    Perfect day!

    Kara_W, May 2021
Excellent place for a day out. The setup is great and the garden is very well taken care of. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip!

    Lovely garden meeting

    Hamish_C, May 2021
Lovely gardens, friendly staff and great for the kids. Met my brother and family for first time in 8 months.

    Gentleman at the front...

    iain_i, Mar 2021
Gentleman at the front was cheery, informative and helpfull. Kids and adults had a great time, the kids especially exploring and playing around the site.

    Response from Host, Mar 2021

We are so glad our front of house volunteer helped make your visit special. I will make sure that gets passed on to help make his day too.

Beautiful place for a day out

    Elizabeth_L, Feb 2021
Botanic Gardens in Dundee were absolutely beautiful and we really enjoyed our visit. 2 year old found plenty to explore.

Awful and waste of money. People going in who hadn’t paid.

    Laura_C, Dec 2020
I booked tickets on line like it was suggested on the website. So for 2 adults paid £10. There was no one to check my tickets at the gate and others were just going in who hadn’t paid. The map was hard to follow-should have been more child friendly with landmarks to help to read it. Other people were going in who hadn’t paid as there was no one to stop them or to check my tickets. Fairy door trail was ok but wasn’t technically fairy doors as not attached to trees, they were just plaques in the ground.

    Response from Host, Jan 2021

Laura , I am sorry your experience was not what we would have liked you to experience. As an educational charity, we are reliant upon the volunteers for support at the front of house, and I am sorry that they were away from post and this has been noted. This was an exception and has been investigated and measures put in place to ensure it does not occur again. The fairy door trail is a new visitor experience that was in place to support and encourage family's to explore the garden and its unique collections. They are purposefully not attached to trees and are designed to enable future change. They interact with the free map and guide which can be downloaded from our website and are on display to pick up outside our visitor centre (not requiring entry). The other visitors include staff, friends (members) and students who all have free access to the garden, which we accept may be confusing for our paying guests. We have made contact separately and again are sorry that you did not feel you had value for money on this occasion. COVID-19 is a challenging time for all of our visitor attractions especially those reliant on volunteers who often come from outside of the COVID restriction areas. A final note: we do have a door bell and contact telephone number for the duty gardener who was on post in display at the entrance. We have these measures in place to ensure we operate safely first and foremost.

Would have liked to have my ticket taken but no one there. The gardens were great. The trees were magnificent. The weather was good and we were lucky.

    Response from Host, Dec 2020

We are glad you enjoyed your garden visit and apologies that your expectations were not met with a front of house volunteer when you arrived. This is a challenging time operationally during COVID and our volunteer front of house capacity is much reduced. The volunteer may have arrived late or popped to the facilities but the sign at the front desk should have explained the COVID-19 protocols to gain entry. When you return this should be addressed and we hope the collection and the weather both engage you well in the new year.

    Oasis of calm

    Moya_N, Nov 2020
Lovely little oasis of calm. Good selection of trees and shrubs and great views over the Tay. Glass houses were small but even at the end of October had some splashes of colour. Tearoom was a delight with warming soup and goodies. Staff were welcoming and helpful.

    Response from Host, Nov 2020

We are so pleased you found us and enjoyed the garden - the autumn colour this year is wonderful and as you highlight the views for the garden are sublime. Do come and visit in again - the seasonal change is just as dramatic :-)

    Easy to book

    Rosanna_M, Oct 2020
Easy to book our online tickets on the day we wished to visit although the Botanic garden opening times were somewhat confusing!!

    Great day out

    HEATHER, Oct 2020
So beautiful. Whole family loved it. Relaxing and peaceful. Cafe staff so friendly and helpful. Food was great. Would go back. Would like to know more about the plants but didnt give much information.

    Ticket to botanic gardens

    Margaret_N, Sep 2020
Easy to book, good experience at the venue. Only problem was retrieving the ticket on my phone. I had to save it as a screenshot to my photo gallery, as it was hard to find the original message.

    Response from Host, Sep 2020

Hi Margaret, Thank you for sharing this - as a back up we can access a copy here so if that happens again please just explain at the visitor entrance and we will check online and help where we can. Really pleased you enjoyed the garden experience with us and hope to see you again some day soon.

    Botanic visit

Beautiful gardens with a great range of trees and plants. Some interesting and quirky areas to explore.

    Response from Host, Sep 2020

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We hope to see you again as we develop more interesting areas in years to come.

    Lovely but sort out pricing

    David_N, Sep 2020
Lovely peaceful corner of Dundee. Enjoyed a quiet reflective midweek sunny afternoon in the garden after lunch at the cafe. Good toilet facilties and disabled parking (if it was really busy I suspect parking would be difficult). Niggles were the map does not include the greenhouses, which are actually open. Also, many interesting plants and trees are not labelled, whilst some are. Despite phoning in advance, 'Estates' (phones are directed to there), had no clue about carer concessions and why prices on viator are different from the website. Bought 2 adult and 1 senior tickets online at £14 to find on arrival that a carer goes free, an adult is £3.90 and a senior is £2.90. No reason really why you should not be able to pay on arrival with a card at the correct prices.

    Response from Host, Sep 2020

Dear David, I am glad you had a good visit and will take on board the comments you have made. As all visitor attractions are finding this pandemic has brought many new operational challenges in opening safely during the current COVID-19 pandemic. We are unable to handle cash or take card payment. The reason is due to compliance of buildings and ventilation. Hence all our public facings messages highlight the need to prepay in advance. During this unusual public health situation. The initial choice of our preferred online prepayment platform has been found to be restrictive and while allowing us to open on July 15th it has a lack of flexible pricing and ticket options which we would normally have. This will be resolved shortly by transferring to a new supplier as furloughed staff return to support the garden team. Labels are a challenge for all botanic gardens at any particular point in time. They are damaged, age in sunlight, are hidden in the foliage or even stolen. However, we do have all our trees numbered and many of our plants labelled in line with best practice of all Botanic Gardens. If you come again and record the number you can email our office or write to our curator and we will always reply with the names of plants we grow.

    Mindfulness

    Catherine_S, Sep 2020
Three of us had lunch - very tasty then went for a walk round gardens very refreshing and liked the quirkiness like the elephant we then went into the large greenhouse and were impressed with the exotic plants such a collection then through and liked the cacti wow only complaint I had bought 5 tickets online but 2 friends couldn’t make it - if I could have bought tickets there I would have save £10 not your fault really otherwise a lovely afternoon and really made us feel great even in this trying time we will be back

    Response from Host, Sep 2020

Catherine really gald you had a good time. With regards the tickets, if you are happy to come again we will honour your pre purchase with visits for the two people who could not come. Thank you for the feedback in the interim.

    Spectacular Gardens

    Jane_G, Aug 2020
University of Dundee' s Botanic Gardens are beautiful. The cafe is open. We didn't go into the hot houses on this visit. There are various prices for different age groups and families. If you make a mistake like I did booking on the phone and paid more than I needed. The garden's staff and management were keen to ensure I could have another visit free of charge.

    Response from Host, Aug 2020

Thank you for sharing your experience with this online community. We value your feedback and try to ensure that every visit is positive and safe in these uncertain times.

Lovely day out after lockdown. Good to enjoy the lovely plants. The entry system to the garden was very easy to use and made it straightforward to follow Covid 19 regulations.
