The visit and tour guide at Herculaneum were fantastic. Having done Pompeii last summer, Herculaneum is a much greater experience. Less people, more intact ruins, and frescos. Why I chose only four stars is because of Viator itself. You offer four pick up points, we picked one of the hotels only to receive a email “reconfirming” pick up at the port as the hotel was “not accessible due to construction.”Someone else mentioned this in a prior review. UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE. We booked a drop off and pickup at the hotel and it cost us additional money to uber to the port.
We arrived at the port 45 minutes before the 1pm pick up. We received a text at 1pm stating the bus was in traffic and going to be 10-15 minutes late. Yes, traffic is bad…that wasn’t the problem. At 1:30, a harried young lady arrived, called out the name of another waiting couple, and quickly turned around to leave. I had to rush after her and ask if she was picking up my party at which point she looked at her list and said, “oh ya.” Had I not asked we would still be sitting there. (She was not the actual tour guide).
The tour itself was a little rushed but the guide was great. Next time, I will arrange for a car, pay the admission fee, and wonder at my own pace. Lots of things to see at a much more pleasantly pace.

Dear customer, we cannot find your booking in our lists, as it is likely that your name does not match the one on the reservation. In general, change and cancellation information is provided at least 24 hours before the tour via the Viator dashboard. If you did not see it in time, we are sorry.

We sat mid-way in the bus. Although the bus had loudspeakers, the guide had no microphone and the ladies behind us gabbed the whole way to the site so we learned nothing from the guide. When we disembarked, I asked the guide why she didn’t have a mic. She said “because we don’t have them.” I explained the situation and she said “I thought you were listening” I explained again and told her I was trying but couldn’t hear due to the ladies behind me. She apologized but Sit in Front if possible. The guide at the site was great and we gave her E20 for which she was very thankful. It was a fun day but sorry to have missed the 20 min explanation enroute.

Overall the trip was great - the driver and TM. The guide Enis at Herculaneum was fabulous. However I am very disappointed with the logistics. We submitted pickup at hotel but were told no. It was a 25 min walk one way to pickup. Everyone else picked up at hotel. We were told van could not get there due to construction. However next day there were two World Tour vans right around the corner. Also when I could not find pickup point I sent message and got no assistance. I also tried phone number - disconnected. TM said that’s not our number so why list it on reservation site. Disappointed in transport.

Excellent tour of Herculaneum from Naples with a small group (12 in total). Guide and driver were very attentive and caring. Unfortunately, the pick-up at the Naples cruise terminal was chaotic... a map with a clearly communicated meeting point (and phone number if needed) would help improve the pick-up process.

We were met on time. They took us to Herculaneum where we met our guide. We enjoyed the history and pace of the tour. This is an amazing well preserved site. I highly recommend.

Can be a challenge walking if you have difficulties but overall not horrible. Even though tour was in English, the guide spoke very fast and talked of many other things besides the site

The tour pickup was scheduled for 13:00, but occurred at 13:30. We have no record or communication of the change. Also , the tour guide at the site was 20 minutes late. Guide at site was a little difficult to understand. However, he was informative.

The provider cancelled the tour 15 minutes before it was to take place and I was told to be in touch with Viator to cancel the reservation. By the time I was able to contact Viator, it was just after the 24 hour cancellation deadline, and I did not get the refund to which I am entitled. Kindly send me my refund immediately.

Driver was on time and met us outside the hotel. The tour was excellent. Lello the guide gave an excellent tour in English, and is very knowledgeable on history and archaeology. Highly recommended.

The tour operator was great. They did a great job communicating pick up points and times. We came off a cruise ship and it was very simple to find the meeting point based on the info from the tour operator. The guide for the excursion was excellent. He was an expert on the subject, Herculaneum, and spent time explaining things. He was very open to questions and was able to answer any questions we had.

Having been to Pompeii twice, I wanted to see and compare it to Herculeum. First I was surprised how much closer Herculeum is to Naples. It is surrounded by a neighborhood about the size of a city block and much below the surface of the surrounding city. Some of it is much better preserved than what you will see at Pompeii. Artifacts like jewelry and furniture are beautifully preserved and surprisingly not much different from what use. One thing that I didn’t like about Herculeum is that some of the buildings are being restored rather than just recovered. Tile roofs are being added in some places. So to me it’s a little deceiving. But it is worth seeing. It is different from Pompeii. I am glad I got to see it but if you only had time to see one - I would choose Pompeii.

Tour guide easy to find and helpful, driver skillful through traffic. Tour in Herculaneum was a little strenuous if anyone has mobility problems. Everything as anticipated and enjoyed.

We (3 of us) went to their original pick-up site but they had changed it. There were no Ubers or taxis available, so no way to get to the correct one in time. We contacted them several times about our predicament, but were told we had to come to them. They documented us as no shows.

We would like to clarify that the meeting point is always clearly communicated through the platform you used to make the reservation. As per our policy, if a guest is unable to attend or expects any delays, they must inform us at least 24 hours in advance.
Unfortunately, if no communication is received and the guest does not show up on the day of the tour, the booking is classified as a "No Show", and we are unable to offer a refund or reschedule at that point.

Guide in Herculaneum was terrific and very knowledgeable. Lots of communication leading up to the tour, and finding the meeting spot was not too difficult. Spent maybe 20 minutes just sitting on the bus waiting for two people who never showed up (without any explanation from the coordinator), but once we got to Herculaneum it was great!

We were picked at the port which was on time. The city pick we had to wait 15 mins for people. The pick up guide was very good. The guide at the site was sub optimal. Recommended doing an audio guide

My tour of eight people by an archeologist of Econo was cancelled the day before it was due, indicating that not enough people had signed up. I was reassigned to a general tour group of Akono. On my previously booked tour, I had arranged to be picked up at my hotel and then dropped off there after the tour. Now I was told I would have to make my way to Piazza Garibaldi. That cost me €30 round-trip. I was told that I would be compensated for the difference in price of the tours, but think I should also be compensated for my Taxi fair.
When I tried to inquire whether I was to be picked up at my hotel or at Piazza Garibaldi, I was rather Ridley dismissed and told it was Pat Garibaldi though I continue to get messages saying I would be picked up at my hotel. Very confusing.
When I arrived at Pat Garibaldi on time, there was no one holding a Viator sign, but only one woman holding a world tour sign. I waited about 15 minutes and then I was advised she was the Viator person. This was very confusing and could’ve easily been improved. The tour at Econo was excellent with local guide Alessio who had the four English speakers in the group. He was, however, not an archaeologist.

Our tours always include archaeological guides. This doesn't mean that we are archaeologists, but that they specialize in sites such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. I can assure you that your guide has extensive experience in this field and has been collaborating with us for a long time.
Due to logistical reasons, your pick-up time was delayed, and we informed you about the change in the meeting point. Naples can be very busy during the summer, and to avoid the group getting stuck in traffic, we decided to delay the time. The communication was made both through the dashboard and by phone to ensure you understood the change clearly.
We will take your feedback into account to improve our service in the future

Though less expensive than Context Tours, this tour illustrates the saying “you get what you pay for” and we got little. The tour was shorter than planned. That guide did not show us significant features of Herculaneum, a fact, I realized on the tour as I eaves dropped on other tours and that we learned with our Context Tour guide in the Archeological Museum in Naples. Every time that guide asked us if we saw something in Herculaneum, we had to say no. We were even rushed through the air-conditioned museum in Herculaneum at the end of the tour for no reason other than the drivers clearly wanted their day to end. Hugely disappointing.

Good tour guide but moved our English tour to an hour later with the Spanish tour, feel less time to see all because the guide needs talk twice with 2 languages.
