The guide communicated easily to find her and the bus. The ride was easy. The guide was informative.
The bus from Naples was on time and comfortable. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. My only complaint was the description said “small group” and we were about 25 (not that small). Also the 3 hour 30 minute tour time included roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes of bus boarding and travel time to/from Naples. You really need 4+ hours on site to truly see most of Pompeii, but this was a good primer and convenient.
Very interesting place, most of us have seen Pompeii on tv and heard the stories of how the people lived and died in that eruption! But to be there and have a guide that was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic made the tour very special

Thank you for your review!
Excellent tour of the site in Pompeii. Our guide Marco was so knowledgeable, showed us all the main areas, really did a great job.
Downside was transport from Naples- had to wait 30 minutes at second pickup point on small bus. Bus not ready to pick us up at end of tour in pouring rain. All got very wet.
Pompeii is amazing and worthwhile going. The trip was well organized and in my opinion good length to get some understanding of the area and life in the city. Our archeologist Marco was brilliant. Very good knowledge and nice details of living style in the city. His English was easy to follow and personality top notch.
Easy to meet up at the meet up location. Had an amazing guided tour that lasted about 2 hours, had a little time to go grab souvenirs and then back to the bus. Saw some amazing sites and learned some cool facts.
The tour of Pompeii with the guide Leo was very informative and completed at a comfortable pace. He was very knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions during the tour.
A tour guide is really the best way to experience Pompeii, and the Viator tour was excellent. Antonio was our tour guide, he was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Pompeii is absolutely an important experience for all. Exploring the city and hearing of their lives and culture and even their devastating end is very meaningful. Our guide Thomas was a wealth of knowledge and personal stories of the lives of the people. His humorous take also kept us engaged.
Negative feedback: the meeting place from our Viking cruise ship was quite confusing with no way to contact our guide and also we did not appreciate a forced trip to the gift shop (high pressure from the sales team) at the very beginning of the tour.
Other than that, we loved the tour itself greatly!
Very disorganized meeting place. Time and place confusing. It took four emails to figure out where to meet. Once we got to Pompeii, the guide on bus couldn’t find the guide for Pompeii. Seemed to not know what was going on. My headset didn’t work to start. When it finally worked, it kept falling off my ear. Guide difficult to understand. She moved too fast and never waited for group. Expected a small group
But it was 25 or more I think. I use Viator all the time but was extremely disappointed in this tour.

Dear Jody, thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize that your tour experience fell short of the high standards you expect from Viator. We regret the initial confusion regarding your meeting point and the delay in coordinating with the local Pompeii guide.
This tour was incredibly well run and structured. Our guides both getting to Pompeii (Andrea) and at Pompeii (Tomas) were great. Andrea was very personable and ready to share about the area, answer questions, and offer recommendations that were phenomenal! You can really tell how much Tomas knows and cares about Pompeii. Great experience!
This was our fourth trip with Viator and based on the others we anticipated issues based on experience with this company.
Let me highlight.
Trip 1. Panoramic view of Firenzi
Cancelled no justification but offered another date we couldn't do. Refund
Trip2. Cancelled no justification but on this occasion we able to move our itinerary around to suit their dates.
Trip3. Winery visit in to Tuscany. This turned out to be a booze session for two hen parties and the wines given to taste were not that great either considering that this is sold as the wine region of Italy.
Now this excursion. Bus leaves at 8pm. Asked to arrive 10 minutes early. We left our hotel to take the 25 minute walk to the meeting point. And as good customers arrived at the requested time. The bus left after major lack of organisation at 8.45pm.
Pompei was very good but should have been better. To make up for lost time our 2 hours tour only lasted 1 hour 35 minutes. Lost opportunities to take more than just photographics on the move.
Do I rate Viator positively. Absolutely not.
The tour was well organised and you get to truly understand how people lived before this massive tragedy
Leo was terrific Exploring Pompeii was fascinating and very educational. Leo moved us, an entire bus full, through the crowds and explained everything that happened "over 2,00 years ago" He kept us moving and allowed us to see how the city lived before Vesuvius erupted and doomed them all. Since it was an afternoon excursion, we needed to get back to the ship on time, and Leo made that happen. Highly recommend this excursion and Leo in particular.
A half day was the perfect amount of time, Andrea and Thomas did a wonderful job lots of explanations
Marko, our guide, was very knowledgeable on the history of Pompeii.
I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes as the cobblestones can be uneven.
Driver 45 min late. Tour leader not very communicative on explaining delays or even apologetic. This is a very strenuous activity. My husband and I had to leave tour. Pace too fast and not meant for some seniors. Or others in general. 18 of us.. with audio.. no break or stops for restroom or a water.

Dear Patricia, thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the 45-minute pickup delay and for our tour leader's lack of communication and empathy regarding the shift. We are sorry that the walking pace at Pompeii was too demanding for you and your husband, and we take note of your comments regarding toilet and water breaks to improve group care
My experience was so bad that I will not use Viator again.
The tour operator, World Tours, refused to pick up my group of 6 at our hotel. This is despite several written confirmations from Viator that we would, in fact, be picked up at our hotel. I had several email exchanges with the tour operator, explaining to her that Viator offered my hotel as a pickup point and even confirmed in writing the hotel as the pickup location. The tour operator, represented by Marianna, responded that our tour "doesn't include pickup-if you don't want it, cancel". Extremely rude and dismissive of a customer. Because of the tour operator's refusal to honor the hotel pickup designated by Viator, we had to walk over a mile in a driving rain storm. Not acceptable.
What made this worse is that the tour bus picked up cruise ship passengers at a couple of locations. In other words, they were not required to walk to the central pickup point in a driving rain. Then, to add insult to injury, at the conclusion of the tour they dropped off two passengers at their hotel! This tour operator was terrible.
In addition to all of that, the Viator booking indicated that the bus would have bottled water. Guess what, no bottled water and no explanation why. All the operator's representative, Giovanni, indicated was that there was no water. And Giovanni was late and while I sent the operator a couple of messages indicating he was nowhere to be seen, no response. Really poor customer service.
Finally, the tour itself at Pompei was below average. The guide rushed us through many areas that required more time to take in. Also, while she had a microphone for our voice box system, for many periods she did not speak closely enough to the microphone in order to hear her. A very underwhelming experience.
Bottom line is that the tour operator was terrible and either ignored what Viator advertised for the tour (pick up points and bottled water) or was not aware. The actual Pompei guide was below average for the reasons outlined above. Because of all of this, I am done with Viator. We had other tours on our trip with a different company, and they were great.
Viator can do much better than this and is not worth the time.
Response from Host, Oct 2026
Dear Louis, we are deeply sorry for the severe frustration, the hotel pickup confusion caused by platform sync errors, and the poor communication you experienced. Walking in the rain is unacceptable, and our staff's tone fell far short of our standards. We are urgently reviewing our booking mappings and internal training. Best regards
Organizing pick up of the 24 people in our group took a while to find everyone and pick them all up. 30 minutes before we were heading out of the city. Pompeii tour was exactly 2 hours, although we had to buy our own water at 4€ per bottle even though the booking says bottle water is provided. Overall decent price for the tour, with how busy the area is, I wouldn’t have wanted to do this myself.
The tour was very informative and well organized. In two hours you only see a small space of Pompeii showing how big it is.
Extremely knowledgeable tour guide, learned so much, good pace, highly recommend it to anyone interested in a first exposure to the archeological site.
An amazing experience . Lots of walking on cobblestones . Wear sturdy shoes . It was pouring when we were there. Our guide did a wonderful job !!
Considering the weather was just awful with heavy rain, thunder and lightning, our guide did quite well. The ruins were amazing. We just wish we could have explored with good weather.
Claudia the tour guide who met us at the port with her bus driver Giovanni were both excellent! Our tour guide in Pompeii was Younes and he was also wonderful! 10/10 would recommend!
Claudia, Giovanni and Younes took us on a wonderful tour of Pompeii. Well organized trip and a wonderful guide who gave us the historical insight to Pompeii. Gratzie mille de Chicago
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing Pompeii Experience!
We had an absolutely amazing experience and could not have asked for a better team. A huge thank you to Nina, Daniele, and Mariagrazia for making our visit to Pompeii such a memorable part of our trip to Italy.
Nina was our guide during the drive and was fantastic from the very beginning. She was friendly, welcoming, and made the journey enjoyable and comfortable. She gave us great information along the way and made sure everything was organized and running smoothly.
Daniele was our driver and did an excellent job. He was professional, punctual, and most importantly, we felt completely safe and comfortable throughout the entire drive.
Mariagrazia was our private guide for our two hour walking tour through Pompeii, and she was incredible. Her knowledge of Pompeii and its history really brought the ancient city to life for us. She explained everything in a way that was interesting and easy to understand, answered all of our questions, and made sure we were able to see and appreciate the most important parts of Pompeii during our time there.
Thank you again Nina, Daniele, and Mariagrazia for taking such great care of us and giving us an experience we will always remember.
We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Naples or Pompeii. Five stars all around! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have been to Pompeii many times and have done the tour at the site. However, going with Viator‘s tour guide, Tomaso, was absolutely fantastic
The tour was fantastic. Our tour guide, Marco was so knowledgeable. Pompeii itself is just amazing. A couple of watchouts: it is all walking often over cobblestones and larger stones, climbing up and down curbs, quite a few stairs. I have bad knees and ankles and it was doable (using my son’s shoulder for balance going down steep steps) but exhausting. The tour gives you a bottle of water, but you may want to bring more particularly if it’s hot. No bathrooms except at the entrance, so keep that in mind as well. Finally, when booking, I was offered a selection of multiple pick up spots in the city. I picked the archeological museum. However, the day before the trip, they confirmed Hotel StarTerminus as their ONLY pickup location. That impacted my entire itinerary and resulted in 2 additional taxi rides I hadn’t planned on. So StarTerminus is the only meeting point, no matter what you might see on Viator.
But overall a great experience!
The bus driver and guide on the bus were organized and on time. The guide during the tour of Pompeii, Tomaso, was excellent. This our is well worth the time and money spent. I highly recommend it
Our tour guide from the park was very knowledgeable. She took us to all the main sites and explained everything we were seeing very well. Well worth the time and money.
