About 100 kilometers from Bucharest and 44 kilometers from Ploiesti, the Slanic salt mine is a recognized destination for balneal and touristic activities since 1853, when it was declared a tourist destination of national interest in Romania. Among the superlatives of the salt mine (especially the Union Mine), the most important tourist and health objective in the resort, there is a huge volume of excavated salt, about 2.9 million cubic meters, which led to the creation of cavities with gigantic volumes, respectively 14 trapezoidal rooms totaling about 80,000 square meters. The 14 underground rooms have an opening of 10 meters to the ceiling, 32 meters wide at the bottom, and the height is 54 meters. The depth of the salt mine is 208 meters. The impressive dimensions granted it the title of the largest salt mine in Europe.

Interesting trip

Hearing Slănic salt mine is the biggest one in Europe, I searched and booked this tour because of its time frame matches my itinerary Meeting location: easy to 5 minute walk from my hotel Hilton garden in old town. I assume it would be a sign of Gray line It’s Universidate is a long big avenue We asked any one passing by, no one heard about this We ran into 2 persons who said they are tour guides but not Slanic salt mine . exactly at 8:30 am, a van with Grayline logo stopped to pick up my group During two hour drive, we had tour an audio tour and history of Bucharest The rest stop at a public gas station is nice, but it is crowded with long line at the public restroom. Luca store and it’s pastries looks great , I couldn’t buy anything bc too crowded and limited time (15 minutes ) Tickets are pre purchased by the company , getting on a shuttle drive through a tunnel and have a two hour walk Punctuation: good planning: 8:30 pick up by the curb , 11 am arriving, 1 pm leaving, ends tour at 3:30 pm ( heavy traffic on the way back to old town)

Vlad's tour

We had a very good day travelling from Bucharest to Transylvania. Our guide Vlad was very knowledgeable and experienced. He talked about history, suggested local meals and sweets. We visited two castles and a nice old town Brashov. Mountains are very beautiful - really worth visiting!

A Perfect Day in Transylvania with Alex

We had a wonderful day touring Bran Castle, Brașov, and the Liberty Bear Refuge. Our guide, Alex, was excellent—knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive throughout the day. We had plenty of time at each location and never felt rushed, which made the experience very enjoyable. A special thank-you to Alex for going the extra mile and taking us to Peleș Castle as well, even though it wasn’t included in the tour. That was a fantastic unexpected addition and really made the day even more memorable. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Alex as your guide!

Spectacular views and a great day tour

We had a fantastic time of this tour. We enjoyed wonderful views of Balea Lake and the ‘Top Gear’ road. We were so lucky to see bears on our way up and down including babies! It is a long journey and the winding rounds may affect you if you suffer from travel sickness- definitely take some medication prior to the tour. Our guide was Pedro who was knowledgeable and helpful. A really great day trip - the views were spectacular. Would highly recommend!

Romania already has enough creepy history and spooky legends to keep you looking over your shoulder, but this tour brought all of it to life. 👻🇷🇴 Katy was an AMAZING storyteller — smart, knowledgeable, hilarious, and somehow made every story feel like we were actually there when it happened. You can tell she genuinely knows her stuff and knows exactly how to keep a group entertained. And whoever arranged the rain, perfectly timed flickering streetlights, and overall haunted Bucharest atmosphere deserves a raise. 😂 Clearly paid actors. 10/10 production value. If you’re visiting Bucharest and want something different from the typical sightseeing tour, DO THIS ONE. You’ll learn a ton about Romania’s darker, weirder history, laugh along the way, and possibly spend the rest of the night questioning every shadow you see. Absolutely worth it. 👻🖤 Would 100% recommend — especially if Katy is your guide!

The history of Bucharest by Ed the Historian!

What a wonderful way to see Bucharest and learn about its long complex history. Our guide Ed is a suma cum laude history graduate and his knowledge of the history of this beautiful city was exceptional! The tour lasted around three hours, we biked about 10km and travelled through 3000 years of Romanian history, from battles over the city with the turks and the romans, to Vlad the Impaler and the history of the city from a commerce perspective on the silk road. Ed was super friendly and open, had an answer to all the questions and as a first generation “free” Romanian, you could tell he was passionate about what he was doing! We would highly recommend this tour!! There was a small miss communication between viator and the Company on which tour we were taking, but it all worked out in the end. The only improvement on the tour would be to give the tour guides a tablet. Ed showed us some videos from the history of the country and city and it would have been nice to see it on a bigger screen!

What an amazing...

What an amazing experience! It started before the tour began with detailed instructions on purchasing tickets for the castles. We were picked up on time at our hotel. Our guide, Gabriel, was very knowledgeable, courteous, and kind. We learned about the history of the castles, the region, and Romania as a whole. He was accommodating to our needs and shared tips throughout the day to give us the best experience. Peleş Castle is the gem of the country! We are very thankful for the day spent with Gabriel and will always treasure this experience.

I booked cars from and to the airport at either end of my trip to Bucharest. The drivers were early both times, and got me safely to and from my hotel.
