It was so nice to get out into the countryside. Our guide had interesting stories about Potsdam and what is was like to travel there during the cold war, and insight into the life of Frederick II. Walking across the Bridge of Spies was special. I would recommend this well organized tour to anyone.

Go rococo

Sanssouci Palace is an excellent example of 18th century excess, with fantastically preserved rococo details. If you’ve been on any (or many) of the obligatory European palace tours, you’ll appreciate that Sanssouci is small: just 11 rooms that you can cover in half an hour. The rest of the Potsdam tour is just ok, with brief views of forests, lakes and the Bridge of Spies. Our guide was authoritative and helped make the quotidian parts of the tour more interesting.
