Our dog carts let you explore the Arctic nature as it transitions from Autumn to Winter. Take charge and let the huskies lead the way on an unforgettable ride. Whether you want to be a passenger or try your hand at steering the cart and the huskies is up to you. The ride takes you on a journey through the forest and along the banks of the Alta River, famous for its salmon fishing. Our family joined their ranks over three decades ago. We have spent the years racing and learning about dogsledding. This knowledge is the foundation of the dog trips that we offer our guests. You’ll get to experience the Arctic countryside, just as it is changing its colours and preparing for the oncoming winter.

An evening in the Arctic wilderness awaits at Gargia Lodge, where 40 lively huskies greet you with excitement. Just 30 minutes from Alta, this immersive experience begins with a guided exploration of dog sledding, revealing the bond between mushers and their dogs. After connecting with these friendly Arctic canines, warm up inside a traditional Sámi hut while savoring hearty Arctic stew. As you dine, captivating tales of historic postal routes unfold, linking communities across the harsh landscapes of Finnmark. Step outside for a chance to witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights dancing overhead, making each visit a unique adventure under the Arctic sky.

The rocky cliffs and ocean vistas of the Alta Fjord provide a dazzling backdrop for the night sky's greatest light show but spotting the aurora borealis can be tricky. This small-group tour enhances your chances of seeing the northern lights by taking you out of Alta and into the surrounding countryside, which is free from light pollution. While you wait for the lights to appear, enjoy included snacks and learn about life in northern Norway from your guide.

Experience the Arctic like a hardy musher: from a sled pulled through the snow by a team of huskies. Drive your own sled or enjoy the ride as a passenger and take in the wintery beauty and rugged landscapes of Northern Norway. You'll be kitted out with a thermal suit to keep the cold at bay and afterward enjoy cozy storytelling, hot drinks, and snacks in a tent.

Holmen Husky is a racing and breeding kennel with more than forty years behind it. This is not a show put on for visitors — it is a working home built around one animal: the Alaskan husky, the finest long-distance runner alive. No creature on earth covers ground the way these dogs do, day after day, mile after mile. That is what we breed for. That is what we race. It is private — never more than two guests per guide — so nothing is rushed. Afterwards there is time with the dogs, and a fire, drinks and stories in the Lavvo, where you hear what a life given to racing huskies is really like. Short, fast, and honest. Suitable for beginners; no experience needed.
