Loved the whole experience. Mark our guide was very knowledgeable and walked us through the history of Mission street and introduced us to the delicacies! My 18 and ten year old kids enjoyed it as much as us adults. Will recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about the food and history of SF
Response from Host, Apr 2026
We’re glad this made its way to us. It’s always a good sign when guests walk away satisfied with how everything came together. Secret Food Tours would be happy to host you again!
Paul_M, Apr 2026
This was a very good introduction to Mission district history, architecture, murals, and food. Mark was very knowledgeable about the different food types. Mexican, Brazilian, Filipino, etc. Personally, I liked the lectures more than the food, but the food was good.
Response from Host, Apr 2026

Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable as she provided historical information regarding the food and the surrounding areas. She did give us a lot of history about the murals in the mission district. However, the food was not something to rave about. We felt like the price wasn’t worth the quality of food we received.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hi Nancy, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It is great that your guide made a positive impression and brought the Mission District to life through its history and murals.
When it comes to the food, our tours are thoughtfully curated to reflect the character of the neighborhood and to showcase a range of local flavors that represent the area’s culture and everyday food scene. Many guests appreciate that balance of storytelling and authentic bites, though we understand that expectations around value and personal taste can vary from person to person.
Your feedback is appreciated and will be shared with our team as we continue refining the experience we offer in each city.
We would be glad to welcome you again on another tour and provide a different perspective of what we do.

Jaime was a great guide and companion on this tour. In spite of a scheduling mixup, not his fault, it all worked out better than expected. We really enjoyed his detailed knowledge of the Mission and his easy going sense of humor. The food was terrific, the murals fascinating and it was a special experience we highly recommend.

Alot of walking of course. Not too many hills. There are alot of great things surrounding the environments so make sure to look around. The food is amazing! You will be down town so make some time afterwards to explore more of the city. Our tour Guide Dominica is well traveled and prepared. She was very positive, upbeat and engaging. 10/10 I've been in the area for about 5yrs and I went with a local native and we both learn new things about the city and our surroundings!

ROOP_G, Sept 2025
Zachary our tour guide was entertaining, knowledgeable and passionate about the Mission District. If not for him, I would have given the the tour 2 stars. The tour itself was a disappointment. The burrito (even though smaller than the standard version) is not a great idea right at the beginning of the tour. Neither of us could finish our portions. Of course it did fortify us for the long walk that followed and left stomach space for only a total of 4 stops. Most food tours that we have been on include 5-6 samplings. I think we counted 7 on a food tour in Montreal. A taco at Senor Sisig was a far better option since very few of us know about Mexipino cuisine. The chocolate drink at Dandelion could have also been reduced to a taster since it was quite heavy. Sorry guys, this tour needs to be reworked.
Response from Host, Sept 2025
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for highlighting the positive impact Zachary had on your experience. He truly enjoys bringing the Mission District to life for our guests, and it’s great to know his knowledge and energy came through during your tour.
We know that tastes and appetites vary, and while many guests enjoy starting with a burrito as a local specialty of the Mission District, we also understand it can feel quite filling at the beginning of the walk.
When designing our tours, we aim to balance portion sizes, walking, and storytelling so that each stop contributes to the overall experience. While the number of tastings may differ from other cities, we’ve found that in San Francisco this pace allows guests to enjoy the flavors of the neighborhood while taking in the history and culture Zachary shares along the way.
Still, we appreciate your input and are glad Zachary made the tour enjoyable for you. If you join us again in North Beach or Chinatown, you’ll find a completely different set of tastings that highlight more of San Francisco’s food traditions.
