Enjoyed the night tour. They demonstrated opening and closing jail cell doors. Audio tour is cool, but suggest letting most people go ahead so not all trying to crowd around the same area.

Exciting, in depth & easy to follow audio tour. We didn’t stay the full 3 hours & very much appreciated the option to go back on the earlier ferry as it had been a long day! We will finish with ‘mans inhumanity to man’

We are glad the flexibility was helpful. But folks should know it's seasonal. In winter, there is only 1 round trip service for the night tour. So it's a 3 hour excursion.

The person I worked with (John) was great. He let me know that the night visit to Alcatraz had been canceled due to unknown reasons. He always kept in touch telling me what was going on and how to get to the Golden Gate boat tour. Thanks John

This was cancelled last minute and we are not able to reschedule. Definitely disappointed ad this was main reason for trip.

We hope you would reconsider this 1-star review as these events were beyond control. The tour was cancelled due to a 2.5-day power outage on Alcatraz Island, the first we know of that has ever happened. Thousands of guests ran into headaches. The weekend of your visit had great weather and others reported being grateful the trip under the Golden Gate Bridge worked out well. We hope you had a similar experience. RECOMMENDATION: Just book these tours direct with the Alcatraz ferry and the Cruise company booking offices. Firstly, we have used Viator to book numerous tours. This is the first one we were disappointed with. We try to book tours that are small group tours, hence we selected this one. There were supposed to be only 8 on the tour. We received minimal instructions other than to go to Pier 33 show our purchase to get a ticket to catch the Alcatraz ferry. There was no indication on where to meet a guide. The ticket office just gave us tickets and told us to get on the next ferry. We tried to explain but they were not interested. We never met a guide and ended up doing the standard Alcatraz tour as any other person. However, we paid more than others because we were to be a small group tour and didn’t just go direct to the provider. I have been to Alcatraz during the day, night time was no different even though this tour suggests it will be. As for the cruise, we never got to that owing to it NOT being available after the Alcatraz night tour. We didn’t have any other time we could do it due to being on other tours during our stay. So we paid for this and did not use it. Extremely disappointing and a waste of our money. Would not recommend this tour.

Following your comments, we have since reworded the description to help clarify the tour for future guests, and we changed the group quantity setting significantly. The number “8” was a mistake regarding our imposed limit vs. how the tour is presented publicly. The “Guides and Languages” section has never been marked for an in-person guide, so we are not sure how that was misunderstood.
