What are people saying about Valencia

Great experience
We met our guide Daniel in a beautiful place and then walked toward the market. He told us about the city and its history as we were walking in the market. We went shopping for fresh vegetables for our paella. The cooking experience was fantastic. We also tasted four different wines during our experience.
This experience was so much fun. I would recommend it highly

Enjoyed this class last yr, so I gifted it to my bro
I purchased this for my brother and his partner. He is a know it all, who is difficult to please. I called him after this experience and he absolutely LOVED it. The person who led it was fun and sociable; the paella lesson was great; the snacks, wine and sangria were excellent; and most of all, the group was friendly and ready to have a great time. I had done this cooking class last year, and I wanted him to experience it too. I highly recommend this program.

A 5 star experience with a super star chef!
Every moment of this experience was fabulous! Jose is a wonderful gourmet chef as well as having a great personality! He immediately made us feel at home as we talked and helped create delicious tapas with a new twist. We loved making the traditional paella with him and enjoyed trying some new drinks and a delicious dessert that was a creative twist on horchata, a typical Valencian drink which he turned into mousse with chocolate shavings. I can’t recommend this experience highly enough. Jose is a star and cooking with him was the highlight of our week.

Excellent and fun experience
Group of 10 at a large table. Nice clean well equipped kitchen. Started with a few snacks and water/sangria. The chef was excellent and funny. He explained the 3 things we would be cooking (tortilla, chicken/rabbit paella and cake) particularly the different types of paella and what you could add versus not. He explained preparing things (hands on) as well particularly how to cook the paella and the pitfalls of not doing so.

Eat and Learn
It’s a great experience with others. Beginning with patatas bravas, olives and a couple more appetizers. We were then able to cook (participate in the cooking) and hear about the history and the proper way to prepare Paella, accompanied with Sangria. Then we sat down with everyone to eat the fruits of “our” labor. Many opportunities for alcohol…Sangria, red or white wine (while eating the Paella), a shot of Mistela with a Valencian sponge cake for dessert. Highly recommend for anyone that likes to learn and eat!

My best paella with My First Paella!
València is world-famous for its paella, so we knew we needed to devote some time to learning about and eating it on our visit! This cooking class through “My First Paella” was the perfect way to do both. A tour, a cooking class, and a social activity all in one, you won’t regret this experience!
My partner and I were thrilled to spend some time in the wonderful “Mercat de Russafa,” filled with friendly vendors and delicious, local food, as our guide and chef extraordinaire for the day, Ana, showed us the ingredients we would be using for our dish!
Chef Ana was extremely kind and very funny as she shared her knowledge of cooking paella, both the technical elements and the power of paella to bring people and families together. Chef Jose was humorous and warm, and kept us laughing and drinking while taking care of everyone.
There were many parts of this experience that stood out to me. One was Chef Ana’s explanation of how everyone involved with My First Paella wants to include visitors to Valencia (like myself and most of my group today) in the local culture and community in a real and genuine way, while also respecting and coexisting with the people who live in this beautiful city and are trying to go about their daily lives. So, for example, showing us visitors what it is like to shop in the local Mercat and where our ingredients are coming from, but being very careful to split big groups up and guide us carefully so we don’t block walkways or interfere with the stalls or the customers!! I absolutely loved how intentional they were about this, and it reflects my own beliefs about travel and tourism.
The other big thing that stood out to me was how darn good the food was! It’s hard enough to make good paella yourself, I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to teach eight people at two different paella stations how to make two different types of paella at once - but Chef Ana did it and our paella was DELICIOUS!! It was so interesting to learn more about the importance of paella in Spanish (and especially, Valencian) culture, and it was so much fun to cook paella ourselves. My partner and I had some tasty seafood paella the night before our class from a really great local restaurant, but the paella we cooked together in class tasted even better.
I could go on and on about this experience - delicious sangria, the opportunity to meet other travelers, feeling like part of the local community - but really, you should go experience it yourself! If you’re coming to Valencia, put “My First Paella” on your calendar.

Highly recommended!
Very interesting tour with Alex who was knowledgeable about Valencia and all its culinary specialties. Highly recommended tour if you want to get an introduction to the local gastronomy and avoid tourist traps during your stay. The food and drinks during the tour were delicious and the experience really enjoyable.
