It was our first time in...
It was our first time in Costa Rica, and our main travel goal was purely to rest and relax. Still, we had to do at least one excursion for our first visit. We definitely picked the right one!
Leon, our guide, was great. He was incredibly accommodating and attentive. We got picked up at our hotel right at 7 AM. He took us to a local spot to grab a delicious Costa Rican breakfast. From there, we got to see the beautiful waterfalls at Llanos del Cortez, taste Costa Rican coffee & chocolate, and walk through a private rainforest to observe the biodiversity. We saw a venomous viper from a distance, sleepy sloths, howler & spider monkeys, and native birds & frogs.
We brought our own binoculars but didn't really need them. Leon brought (what I think was) a standing telescope, so we could clearly see eveything his eyes could find. (There is no way we would have spotted most of these animals on our own.) Plus, he was great with helping us get some great photos to create lasting memories of our intro to CR.
As if this wasn't enough, the tour ended with lunch at a local spot where we thoroughly enjoyed the food AND we got to visit a butterfly sanctuary. It was a jam packed 7 hour guided tour and well worth the value.
Grateful for the pura vida welcome, Leon!

Amazing Day!
We had an amazing tour with our guide, Dayro! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and great at spotting wildlife we would have missed on our own.
Rio Celeste Waterfall was stunning, and the Sloths and Wildlife Sanctuary was a highlight. We saw eyelash viper snakes, a tree frog, and even an anteater!
The van was very comfortable for the long ride, and the food was great as well.
Highly recommend this tour—Dayro made our tour unforgettable.

Amazing in depth tour
Amazing experience with a wide range of activities. I would say it has a little of everything, but we felt like we got a lot of everything. Each part of it was in depth, with our very knowledgeable guide having endless information about all topics. In the driving portion, we stopped to see different kinds of monkeys, iguanas, and birds. The boat tour on the river gave us more lizards, crocodiles, and many kinds of birds along the shore. Our boat captain was an expert at spotting the smallest camouflaged birds and other creatures among the trees.
Besides all the wildlife, we visited an area of the river to watch the "sand guys" working and learn about their jobs. We stopped at a rural area for authentic wood-fire cooked lunch, which was delicious and accompanied by tamarind juice and authentic coffee made with the chorreador. There was also a demonstration of indigenous pottery technique and sugar-cane pressing.
Everyone involved was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. A great way to experience so many aspects of Costa Rica in a short time: wildlife, nature, history, culture, food, coffee, etc.
We booked this tour with Wendy at Costa Rica Unique.

Great tour!
This is a terrific tour. It has a mix of adventure with a some scenic easier walks. The Waterfalls are the major highlight. Carlos our driver and guide was knowledgeable about all the cool wildlife we saw. He took amazing pictures of our family and helped capture the memories for our trip.

Wonderful tour by Nesmer!...
Wonderful tour by Nesmer! Very kind and personable, full of information about the country, our tour stops, and the flora/fauna. His falcon-like ability to pick out hard-to-find animals was amazing. Very attentive to our needs during the long drives to/from Tamarindo including a couple extra stops along the way. Really enjoyed our
The Arenal national park was amazing, a beautiful ecosystem unlike anything in the continental U.S. Very walkable with lots of up and down slopes on wall-marked and well-maintained paths. About 25 degrees cooler than Tamarindo, as expected, and it rained for much of the walk.
For the hot springs, we were at a water park with thermal pools. We were expecting something more “natural” but a was a very nice resort with clean, enjoyable pools - very relaxing after many hours of driving and walking. Also had a good buffet lunch here. Did not include towels as expected but we managed.
Overall, an excellent experience for us that we happily recommend.

The Best Tour I’ve Ever Booked on Viator!
I’ve booked many tours on Viator, but this one was by far the best! Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish - professional communication even before the tour and flawless coordination throughout the day. I can’t imagine how much time and stress it would have taken to cross the Costa Rica–Nicaragua border on my own. The tour in Nicaragua itself was simply outstanding, a masterpiece of planning and storytelling. If you want to see all the main highlights of Nicaragua in one day, this is definitely the tour you need!

Amazing experience!
This is a great tour. Be prepared to swim, but it is so worth it! Even my 80-year-old Mom made it all the way like a champ (but she’s in great shape). Our guide Jason was great and we even got to see some monkeys in the trees at the end. Lunch was very good - classic Costa Rican Cosada plate cooked fresh. Highly recommend!
