Itineraries for Your Trip to Seminyak
3 Days in Seminyak for First Timers
Bursting with boutique hotels, beach bars, and sumptuous spas, Seminyak is a paradise for luxury lovers. This kind of sophisticated chic was exactly what I was looking for when I turned up tired and dusty from the long journey from East Java, having spent a month hiking and camping. But even if you don’t arrive as bedraggled as I did, Seminyak is the perfect place to kick back and soak up Bali’s contemporary side.
While you could spend all of your time enjoying social-media-worthy brunch spots, shopping malls, and infinity pools, three days in Bali’s premier beach town gives you time to delve deeper into the island’s culture. Here’s how to spend 72 hours as a first-time visitor to Seminyak.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a sunset tour and fire dance performance at Uluwatu Temple—you’ll never forget it.
You’ll experience Seminyak’s best weather if you visit during the dry season, from May through October.
Spend your first morning zipping between some of Bali’s most culturally significant sights on a day trip. Visit the epic Tanah Lot Temple (Pura Tanah Lot), perched on cliffs overlooking the ocean, then stop to admire the UNESCO-listed Jatiluwih Rice Terraces and the lakeside Ulun Danu Beratan Temple (Pura Ulun Danu Bratan), which dates back to the 17th century.
Back in Seminyak, spend the afternoon trotting along the soft sands of Seminyak Beach, which is lined by glitzy beach bars ideal for post-ride cocktails. Time your tour for sunrise for the ultimate romantic experience.
Dedicate your second morning to Balinese cuisine, which is famous for its fiery and fresh flavors. If you opt for a personalized cooking class, a private chef will even come to your accommodation to teach you to make classic Balinese dishes such as gado gado (vegetable salad with satay sauce) and nasi goreng fried rice). If you’re still hungry afterwards, you can learn about even more dishes on a street food tour.
Tonight, combine three of Bali’s must-do experiences into a single evening: Watch the sunset from the dramatic oceanfront setting of Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu), then watch a mesmerizing kecak fire dance, and, lastly enjoy on a seafood dinner by candlelight on the beach.
The adventure continues on your last day with a day trip to Nusa Penida, a tiny island off the coast of Bali that’s most famous for its T-Rex-shaped rock formation. Spend the day snorkeling with manta rays and visiting white-sand beaches before returning to Seminyak by speedboat and bus.
After an action-packed few days, tonight is your time to relax. Toast your Seminyak stint with a cocktail onboard a catamaran while cruising on the Indian Ocean at sunset. After drinks, enjoy a buffet dinner, then rounding out your time with a Bintang beer at a beach club such as Potato Head or Ku De Ta.
