1 Day in Bermuda for First Timers

Curated by Jade Harveywho saw Bermuda through a local’s eyes.

I never expected a hiking trip to Torres del Paine in Chile to result in a vacation to Bermuda. But that’s exactly what happened when I became fast friends with a Bermuda-based couple following the same route through the Patagonian wilderness as I was. So it wasn’t long after that I flew to this unique island paradise, where British culture melds with peachy beaches and spectacular ocean sunsets.

If you’ve only got one day in Bermuda, then don’t worry—the island’s compact size makes it easy to tick off several must-see Bermuda attractions in 24 hours, especially if you follow this action-packed Bermuda itinerary for first timers.

If you only have time for one thing, make it Warwick Long Bay.

Unlike the Caribbean islands, the best (and driest) times to visit Bermuda are April–June and September–October.

Morning

Kick off your island getaway with a panoramic tour that covers several must-see attractions in Bermuda and helps you get your bearings. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. George’s, a historic village that marks the spot where shipwrecked Brits discovered the island hundreds of years ago, and soak up panoramic views of the North Atlantic Ocean from Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, perched atop one of Bermuda’s highest hills.

Afternoon

If it’s your first time in Bermuda, you’re bound to be desperate to check out its world-famous coastline. So, spend the afternoon hopping between the island’s best beaches on a sightseeing cruise. Visit the world-class Horseshoe Bay, famous for being one of the few beaches in the world with pink sand, and see Warwick Long Bay, a more secluded yet similarly peachy beach. Alternatively, round out an island tour with some shopping and yacht-spotting around the picturesque Royal Naval Dockyard.

Night

The Bermuda Triangle is shrouded in mystery, so spend the evening unlocking its secrets on a twilight cruise that tells tales of ship disappearances in this fabled part of the ocean. Plus, floodlights let you admire the ocean floor from your glass-bottom boat. Conclude your evening in the island capital of Hamilton, where you can sip Bermuda’s national drink at the Swizzle Inn pub, the oldest bar on the island.
