Worth it
Alysia, our guide, was amazing. Nice to have the info as we walked. Bring water bottles. The elevator up had a 40 min wait so we did the 551 stairs and it was okay. The dome allowed you to see the mosaics, piece by piece and understand how they are not painting. Very beautiful, take a moment to feel the energy of this place-very powerful.

Exceptional experience!...
Exceptional experience! Go deeper than the catacombs into roman mausoleums and see St Peters tomb. Uneven ground with stairs and occasional low ceilings. We enjoyed our own walk around St Peters Basilica following, with amazing climb up to the view from the dome.

Vatican
Tour guide was so knowledgeable, everything about the tour was great. We were able to check off many items on our bucket list on this tour. Have already recommended the tour to others.

Self guided audio tour of St Peters
St Peters is truely amazing and well worth a visit in person. We didn't understand initially that this was a self guided tour with a audio app, so bring your own headphones. Also the Dome QR code didn't seem to work at first, but we persisted, and then got to go up. Again, the Dome just blows you away to well worth it.
The other advantage of the self guided audio is that it is self-paced and you can go into a much detail as you like.

Opportunity for improvement
Own your on at your pace. The tickets needed to be picked up unfortunately instead of being provided online which would have been smoother transition from Vatican to St. Peter’s.

Great choice!
This tour of St. Peter’s Basilica was outstanding. It was easy to find our group (10 people total), the guide spoke clear beautiful English and we didn’t wait in any lines. The best part was she was passionate and very knowledgeable about Rome, the Vatican, Roman history, church history and the Bible. I just loved how she tied it all together. I highly recommend this tour!

Only issue was that this tour was NOT a skip the line tour. But that's my fault. Guide was great. !!!

An excellent tour!
This really was an excellent tour which included St Peters square, the Basilica, a climb to the top of the Cupola providing outstanding views of Rome and a visit to the Grottoes beneath the altar of the Basilica. Our guide was full of facts and interesting information, which were put across in a friendly conversational manner. Thoroughly recommended!

How to get there
When to visit

You must pass through a security check to access the dome—banned items include pocketknives, corkscrews, and umbrellas.
The dress code in the basilica and dome requires that shoulders and knees are covered.
The dome is partially accessible to wheelchair users. There is an elevator to the roof level (or you can climb the 320 steps), but only a spiral staircase provides access to the cupola at the highest point of the dome (another 200 steps).
Views are dizzying from the top of St. Peter’s Dome, so visiting the top is not recommended for anyone afraid of heights.
Kids especially enjoy the invigorating climb and views, so consider joining a small-group tour tailored to families if traveling with children.
