Not enough time
The tour started by visiting a local market. It sold veggies, fruits, rice, meats, cooking oils, etc. We spent 30 minutes there and the market was not interesting. Then we visited an indigenous family. This was more interesting. Then we only 2 hours at the Laguna. That was not enough time at all, if you wanted to go to the Laguna shores. Then we spent another hour at a lunch place. The food was ok.

We had limited time in...
We had limited time in Quito, and while this is a long excursion, it was well worth it! Our guide, Rasu, was fabulous! Personable, knowledgeable, and a great ambassador for the region and the country. Cotapaxi was hidden by clouds when we first visited the park, but revealed her beauty later in the day. Quilatoa was an amazing spot. The walk down toward the lake was relatively easy, but the return uphill was quite strenuous, due to the altitude.

Information that must be known
If you are going to force us go to a specific restaurant to eat with the group that does not accept credit cards, then you must tell us to bring cash. If you going to ask us to give coins to the indigenous people then you must tell us to bring coins and not big dollars.
I prefer not to carry much cash. Not being able to eat with the tour group made the trip less than excellent. Please tell future clients. Thank you

Great tour through the Ecuadorian Andes mountains
This is an active trip along the Ecuadorian Andes avenue of volcanoes. Visit Cotopaxi nationaal park, and Laguna Quilota. This is a steep climb down into the inactive volcano, but you can hire a mule to ascend.
Visit Banos, famous for it's waterfalls and Swing at the End of the world.
Climb to 5000m at Chimborazo.
Visit Ingapara archeological complex, a large Canari and Inca ruin.
I had an extra day, so we had an extended city tour to also see a couple of museums, including Museo Pumapungo and the old cathedral, and then a longer day hiking in Cajas National Park.
So many hightlights. You do need to be fit to get the most from the activities at high altitude.
The guide, Ed, was very accommodating and helpful to fill my extra day.
I had some issues with my Latam Airline booking, and all communication was in Spanish. Ed helped communicate with the airline to enable me to be sure that this was sorted.

A great one-day option from Quito
Anthony was a great guide, offering the group explanations in both Spanish (which I could practice) and English (so I could understand, haha). The activities were well-timed to break up the diving necessary, the bus was comfortable (even if the roads aren't always!), and the included hot meal was a nice taste of Ecuador. The volcano and lagoon are of course the highlight, and was an amazing experience! I cannot recommend strongly enough renting a kayak and going out into the middle to take it all in. :-) Note that you'll need to be pretty fit to make the hike back out at such a high elevation on foot (but riding a horse out is also an option for $10/person).
All in all, just a fantastic day and overall experience (and workout!)!!!

Fantastic views of iconic volcanoes!
Wonderful experience - Andres was a great guide - very knowledgeable. Santiago was a great driver for this long excursion. The volcanoes were spectacular - we were very lucky with the weather. Lunch was terrific local food - muy bueno! My only caution would be to be prepared for very winding twisty roads up to the second volcano. Quillatona. Worth the long drive full of switchbacks at 14,000 feet altitude - spectacular views. Just be prepared if you get carsick.

When to visit

There is an entrance fee to access the lake viewpoints and walking trails.
The lake is located at high altitude, and if you’ve just arrived in Quito, it’s recommended to spend a couple of days acclimatizing before hiking or biking.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water if you plan on walking around the crater.
