The island of Iona has only 130 residents, so you’re unlikely to encounter anyone on the trail. Be sure to let someone know you’re heading off on this remote hike if going alone.

Take snacks for the walk, plenty of water, and a picnic for when you arrive on the black pebble beach at St. Columba’s Bay.

The trail is steep and uneven, so make sure you’re wearing sturdy hiking shoes and have a good fitness level.
