Worth every second of it!
Wonderful trip to the Guatavita lagoon and the Salt Cathedral. Both places have so much history and culture of the Colombian people. Our guide Sebastian was knowledgeable and shared relevant information with us.

Expanding Views of Colombia
Long day. Major monuments to see & explore. It’s good if you like to see countryside from a vehicle. The Salt Cathderal was quite amazing. The hike to see the lake was single file& quite slow but beautiful view of crater. Guide was pleasant

I had such a great time...
I had such a great time on this tour!! My tour guide Sergio went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great experience. He was funny, kind, and patient. I would recommend him for any of your tours!

Knowledgeable Guide
Interesting tour but the day is very long when you take into account picking up other guests (more than 13 hours because of traffic). Sebastian was an excellent guide and Jesus was a wonderful driver. Sebastian was a wealth of knowledge on plant properties, history, culture…he made the tour worthwhile. The time on the road allows you plenty of rest time in a comfy Tracker. The Salt Cathedral is interesting but if you’ve seen the one in Poland then this will be your second favorite.

Well run tour but perhaps not worth the time or expense
The logistics of everything went very well. The guide and driver were both excellent and very professional. I admit to being a bit of a well seasoned jaded traveler. This trip is a very long day and in the end it serves to hike around a lake and visit a salt mine. Having visited previous salt mines, this was honestly not that big of a deal (and a pretty expensive attraction), so in retrospect I don't think this was worth the time or expense. Maybe if you've never visited a salt mine, but otherwise I don't think I would do this tour again. Lots of time spent in traffic, big crowds at the lake the day we went (holiday weekend), and we didn't even get lunch until 3PM.

Well worth the trip, beautiful lake and surrounding scenery
This was a really enjoyable day out. The countryside was beautiful, Guatavita village is pretty, Guatavita lake is absolutely stunning, and the lunch was excellent. Sarai was a really good guide, friendly and enthusiastic about what she was showing us. (Our driver, however, drove very aggressively and at times unsafely - hence only 4 stars.) My only advice for future tourists is don't expect a long 'hike'. We were in the nature reserve for about 2 hours, but 1 hour of that was basically standing still being told (interesting) stuff, and the other was at a slow pace with plenty of stops - needed because of the altitude (2920m at the start of the walk, 3070m at the end - about 400m higher than Bogotá). I live at sea level and I was still struggling with the altitude on my 3rd day in the city, so I appreciated the slow pace. I would definitely recommend the day to others

A must visit to the sacred lake of indigenous people
The lake is wonderful, the traditional food at the restaurant also amazing, the path to the lake is among the nature, the explanation about the history of indigenous people and visiting a characteristic ceremonial house of them were spectacular

Great tour - transport and tickets to the salt mines
Good package with just the transfer and tickets to the salt mine. The driver gave good info as we drove (only in Spanish) and arranged entry to the mine - with audio cruises in English. You then tour the mine yourself (or with a guide in Spanish). He then offered for us to have lunch in town (at own cost) or to look around town - which we did.

Perfect Day Trip into Colombia's History and Legend!
My wife and I took the full-day tour to the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral and the Laguna de Guatavita, and it was the absolute highlight of our trip to Colombia. It perfectly blends incredible engineering, deep history, and stunning natural beauty.
Our guide Lorena was excellent, the transport was comfortable, and everything ran on time.

Phenomenal Experience!!!
If you are LUCKY ENOUGH to get Sergio and Jesus as your guides you are guaranteed the most WONDERFUL tour! Sergio is HILARIOUS and his energy is contagious! He made the 12hr trip seem SHORT! the locations were also phenomenal and our guides were insanely knowledgeable about every detail! I cannot recommend this enough!!

When to visit

- If you’re not acclimated the altitude can be a challenge, so plan to move slowly and drink plenty of water.
- While short, the hike to the lake crosses rough terrain, making sturdy shoes a must.
- Wear layered clothing, as the weather here can change quickly.
- All visitors to Lake Guatavita must explore with a tour, which set out regularly from the trailhead.
