Dolphins-Snorkeling-Lunch
Family fun in the Azores making a valiant attempt to find whales. No whales sighted but huge group (200+) of dolphins to make the exciting excursion on an inflatable boat worth it! Nice combo of animal watching, delicious lunch in Villa Franca, capped off by snorkeling in the lagoon of the Princess Ring (Islet).

Fantastic boat ride, lots of dolphins
When we booked this I thought we would be on a big boat, however when we got there it was sort of rubber dinghy sort of speedboat! (I’m sure it has a name) If I’d known I probably wouldn’t have booked it however I’m soo pleased I didn’t know as it was fantastic. We saw so many dolphins and felt closer to them as on smaller lower boat.. really sorry but I didn’t make a note of our hosts names, one was studying marine biology I believe and she was lovely, don’t know his name sterling the boat even tho they introduced themselves. Lunch was great, best tuna steak I’ve had here and my partner liked his steak. Time to swim to. Thoroughly recommend this trip!

Fun Day Out
We got to see a lot we wouldn’t otherwise have seen. Dolphins and a whole view of the beautiful island. Visiting and swimming in Vila Franca was awesome too. Plus the guides were friendly and fun.

Azores
Aerial view of Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel island, Azores, Portugal.
  • Basic changing facilities and a restroom are available on the islet.

  • A lifeguard station is on the beach, but families and cautious swimmers should be aware that the water is deep in places.

  • No food is available for purchase on the islet, so bring all the food and water you need for the day.

  • Bring water shoes, as the islet beaches are quite rocky.
