Alan was very good. Tremendous knowledge of the history of York! Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get the history.
Chris brought York’s history to life for us over an entertaining 3 hour tour of the “best bits” of that history. Some sites we expected and others were wonderful historical gems shared. Chris is not only well read on British history, but has a knack for story telling that makes it all fit together. A neat historical rubik cube!
Dirk was very friendly. He picked us up at our hotel (even though it was outside the range of normal pickup locations for this tour). He has great historical knowledge and had some recommendations and funny and interesting stories to tell. It was a good experience!
Our guide Chris was fantastic. He went above and beyond to show us York and especially the not so touristy areas. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge and full of energy keeping us engaged during the tour.

We did a private walking tour with Alan on our first day in York, and it was the perfect way to get our bearings in the city. The tour was excellent – very informative, engaging, and full of funny and enjoyable stories that brought York’s history to life. Alan is a knowledgeable and fascinating guide who made the city’s past feel vivid and relevant. He also shared great local tips, from pubs and a cocktail bar to the wonderful experience of attending Evensong at the Minster. Highly recommend this tour – a brilliant start to any visit to York! We had 2 80 year olds in our group and the managed the pace and distance!

I chose this tour because I wanted to learn about all of York’s history from the Romans to the Vikings to Henry VIII to Guy Fawes and everything in between. Chris was an amazing tour guide. He knows sooo much about history and weaves the stories so well. His local knowledge of York is impressive. He went above and beyond to make the day educational and amazing.
This was a fascinating tour filled with historical details told in a way that brought each area of the city to life. We learned so much about this vibrant and charming area. The tour lasted more than two hours but was interesting every step of the way.
Our tour guide was terrible. Showed us next to nothing in York. We had a private tour and he allowed other people to join our group. At that point, we left. We never saw the walls of the city. Sq nothing. Very hard to understand and he told us more than once that he was tried and needed to rest. Crazy!! Want a refund

Alan was our tour guide, his knowledge of York was very impressive and covered a wide range of topics. The negative side was this was a paid private tour and expected the engagement of the tour to be more of a conversation vs a scripted lecture. We are a family of 3 (one of us being a history buff) wanted to ask multiple questions and engage in casual conversations as we walked the streets. We felt rushed going from one stop to the next. Once again Alan was a great group guide and knew a lot about the city but wasn’t as much as a conversationalist from our previous private tour guides.

Great sense of humor and exceptionally knowledgeable. Good flow to the tour and ar just shy of 3 hours we saw all the mahor historical sites.
