What are people saying about York

Alfred began our tour...
Alfred began our tour with a wonderful sense of anticipation and humor, and from the start we knew we were in for something special. He shared fascinating stories and historical details in such an engaging way that we came away feeling we had gained a much deeper understanding of York and its remarkable history. We especially appreciated the way Alfred used York’s city walls, and the different periods in which they were built, expanded and changed. He created an easy-to-follow timeline that brought York’s long and complex history to life in a way that was both memorable and easy to understand. Alfred’s humor added so much to the experience, as did his occasional musical references and obvious love of bluegrass music! He’a a wonderfully engaging and talented storyteller who knows how to make history informative, entertaining and fun. The Best of York Tour was truly excellent and one of the highlights of our time in York. We highly recommend both the tour and Alfred!

Pleasant way to see and...
Pleasant way to see and explore the moors. Very very knowledgeable driver. The coach was comfortable and easy to hear the guide. Nice stops for short breaks and photos as well as time in Whitby. Adding the steam train was well worth it- we had reserved seats at a discounted price.

Laid-back tour
Nice, laid-back tour. There were only four people on the tour, which felt perfect, and there was a good balance between being guided and being left on our own. I wish we had a little bit more time on the moors, but on the whole, it was well-paced and way easier than trying to figure out how to get to all these places on our own.

Clear, comprehensive and humourous tour
A great experience, loads of interesting facts and places covered and lots of time periods in Yorks long history. Guide was very conscious of keeping us in the shade and safe off busy roads during what was a heatwave day which was much appreciated by all. Guide was a font of knowledge delivered in a clear voice which wasn't easy over the busy August hub bub of traffic and tourists and all delivered with some great humour also. He answered my question at the end concerning my specialised knowledge of stained glass. I would go on the same tour again on a less hot day and also to reinforce my knowledge of York !
