Visit both temples and I choose the Batik Class. Batik Class wasn’t really good, the only let me do the front part of the waxing, they made the rest and the coloring. Just one color and pay 100 INR. The only had 2 designs. I wish a knew this so I could of do a separated Batik Class. Driver was ok.

We felt really touched by our visits to Prambanan, Plaosan and Borobudur. We learned a lot about the religious and spiritual history of Indonesia and marvelled at the stunning architecture and art within the temples. Dwi, our guide in Prambanan was funny, knowledgeable and attentive and our guide in Borobudur shared the history of Javan Buddhism with contagious enthusiasm. Hanif was a great driver, sharing anechdotes, taking us everywhere on time and even trearing us to some coconut. Definitely a worthy experience.

An excellent way to see Borobudur and Prambanan in one day. But be prepared it’s a long hot day! The tour of Borobudur with a guide is a highlight. You gain a better understanding of the temple.

Live Volcano - added plus!

We only had 2 days in Yogyakarta, and we made this stop, especially for Borobudur Temple. We enjoyed visiting both the must-see temples and were not disappointed. Our guide (I wish we could remember his name) recommended the optional 4X4 Merapi Volcano tour, which includes the underground bunker, and we were glad we had done that since it's the closest we will probably ever get to a live volcano on the ground (we have done the helicopter tour over Kīlauea in Hawaii). Thank you!

Adventure at 4am

The sunrise was initially cloudy, but we waited and saw a beautiful orange light across the jungle. The temple visits were very memorable too. Our driver took care of everything, so we just needed to arrive and chill. It was very nice.

I had the best time as a solo female traveler! Tomo was my driver and he was incredibly kind, honest, and professional. He put my needs first and was always ready for me. He told me upfront what was included/not included in my tour and what to expect. He gave me tips and warnings about pushy souvenir sellers at the Borobudur exit, so I wouldn’t be ripped off or scammed. He never rushed me or pressured me or had a hidden agenda. I really appreciated Tomo because sometimes traveling alone, guides/drivers have tried to take advantage of me. My Borobudur climb time was scheduled for 13:00 or later, so we went to Prambanan first. It was amazing and not as crowded as expected around 9:00. Definitely check out Sewu Temple as it’s just as good as (honestly, better than) Prambanan but almost no one goes there. I requested to also visit Plaosan Temple so we stopped there as well. Also highly recommended (note: an additional 50K ticket for foreigners). Then we drove to the Borobudur area and stopped for lunch at a restaurant called Borobudur Silver Resto where all the drivers tend to bring tourists. I liked the ambience and the menu was more expensive than local warungs but it was still affordable and had Western and Indonesian dishes. At Borobudur, I climbed at the 2:30 session (note: you can climb later than your scheduled session, but not earlier), and I explored the top on my own for a while after my tour group went down. Definitely hang around there longer because there will be gaps between sessions where the crowds will leave and then you can get your photos without anyone in the way! Plus, the lighting is better in the late afternoon because of the descending sun. I recommend 100% to book this tour, as long as you’re not adamant about climbing Borobudur at a certain time because the tickets pre-purchased have a random assigned time. Unlike similar tours, this tour gives you some flexibility to customize your day, and it’s also cheaper than some of the other tours on Viator, Get Your Guide…etc.

Important to note that this is the climb up ticket, the one that gets you to the top of Borobudur - only a limited nr of these tickets per day. Great trip overall, the driver Mas Han was great, very helpful and friendly, very polite. Recommended a great place for lunch too. Borobudur tour is special with a small group and a dedicated tour guide that provides lots of history and context to understand the site.
