Had fun but definitely wear outdoor shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Also carry an umbrella and rain jacket just in case. We got lucky it rained during our ride to the next stop and it stopped when we arrived so we didn’t get rained on while outside. But the heavy rains made it unsafe to walk down to the waterfall so we missed out on seeing it up close. Overall it was still a good experience and the locals were very nice and friendly. Our tour guide was also great and spoke good English.

Visiting the rice fields was a truly refreshing experience. The landscape is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery and the serene beauty forest. Our driver Arma was a great driver and guide. Great experience to scape the city buzz.

Beautiful scenery! The rice terrace walk is a steady fairly well maintained path-not steep until a few steps to get to the temple. After which there’s a stop half way down for a drink.
Then it’s lunch.
Then to a lovely waterfall. Short walk to see it from above so no need to go down & back up(steep) unless you want to go to its base.
Our guide was a lovely chap who spoke good English & was very informative.
It’s a very slow paced day.

Amazing trip! The rice terraces were absolutely stunning, and the hidden waterfall makes impression. Selogriyo Temple has such a peaceful vibe, and the whole trek was the perfect mix of adventure and chill. Our guide Sigit was super friendly with extensive knowledge. Great escape from the crowded city — totally worth it!

We saw the farm and the temple, had a coffee at a beautiful viewpoint, and then went to the waterfall. Arma also took us to a great restaurant for lunch. He knew so much about the history of the area and farming. Really a trip highlight!

We went to the rice terraces, hidden waterfall and temple and Thomas was very useful and very entertaining! He gave us insights into the history of the temple and also proved a great camera man for photos at the waterfall! It was a great experince and one I would definitely recommend.

The sights are really spectacular. Although a little challenging at tomes for a couple in their 60's we still did it and glad we did. The views from above the waterfall are great as was it from the bottom. The scenery while walking on the trail through the rice paddies was beautiful. Overall a great day away from city. Also our guide, Hibza, was great

Our guide Sigit provided a great tour. He took us to beautiful places in the middle of the rice fields. In the afternoon we stopped at a very delicious restaurant and visited a breathtaking waterfall. A great day thanks to our guide Sigit! Definitely recommend.

I had an incredible day! My guide Maxi was super friendly, punctual and spoke very good English. He made sure that I was comfortable throughout the trip, even stopping at a pharmacy for me to get medicine for my cold. He also took so many amazing pictures for me, which was much appreciated!
The hike up to the temple wasn't too difficult and the views over the rice terraces were beautiful. I also got to try some delicious local coffee and fried banana and I talked to the locals, who were all really friendly. The waterfall was simply stunning! There are also loads of amazing photo opportunities there. This trip is a must when in Yogyakarta and if you get Maksi as your guide then you're super lucky, as he is an absolute star! Thank you so much for this amazing day.

We had an amazing time on our tour with Arma.
This was a fantastic off-the-beaten path cultural experience.
We went to a beautiful waterfall and hiked down to the falls. Note to wear water sandals or take off shoes because you do need to cross some streams.
We then did rice trekking and had some tea and visited a historic temple. The rice fields and temple were stunning.
Overall, this was an amazing experience to get to learn a sense of the Central Java countryside. It's also an active day filled with fresh air, beautiful hiking, and cultural insights. I fully recommend it to anyone staying in Yogyakarata who wants to get a genuine sense of Java outside the big cities.

Your tour guide: Didik was punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to give us a great experience. He was also a great driver (unlike some of the cabbies we’ve taken here) and a talented photographer!
Pickup details: We arranged pickup at our desired time and location in the morning via WhatsApp, one day prior to the tour.
Waiting time: Not a dull moment during this tour! Time was provided for a coffee break, lunch, and to enjoy the scenery at Candi Selogriyo and Air Terjun Kedung Kayang.
Value for money: Excellent value considering we were out and about from 8am-5pm and all entry/parking fees were covered. The only things we had to pay for were coffee and lunch.
What you loved:
The rice terraces along the way to Selogriyo Temple were stunning. Lush green paddy fields cascading in terraces in every direction, forming a sun-kissed panoramic landscape with banana, papaya, cassava, and coffee trees. The coffee trees were blooming when we visited and their lovely scent made our walk even more magical. Selogriyo temple is well maintained. We appreciated that this temple was not overcrowded; during our visit there were only 3-4 other small parties who respected the serene surroundings.
On our way back to the car we stopped at Selogriyo Coffee, a coffee shop that grows their beans on the hills behind the temple. Be sure to try their coffee as it is delicious, and you get to enjoy it in front of an amazing view.
For lunch, Didik recommended that we try a dish local to Magelang called Kupat Tahu, made of tofu and rice cakes in a savoury coconut sugar sauce. Very refreshing and we would have never found it ourselves.
Air Terjun Kedung Kayang was busy with local tourists because it was a holiday. A very cool landmark of a rushing waterfall which you can walk right up to! Unfortunately some trash on the ground, so pack out whatever you bring in. A few platforms for photo opportunities with the volcano in the background.
Throughout the tour, Didik took many photos of us which he shared with us promptly. We really appreciate these memories of our time in Magelang!
What could have been better: We have no critiques for this tour; it was a perfect day.
Tips for travelers: Wear sunscreen and bring a hat/sunglasses for the walk through the rice paddies along the way to Selogriyo Temple. The path to the Kedung Kayang waterfall includes walking through some shallow water then a few steps along a wet/muddy trail. Bring flip flops, a towel, and wear shorts and shoes that you can do a short hike in.
Overall, we had a great day mainly because Didik was an amazing guide. Highly recommend joining his tour.

The excursion was absolutely amazing, thanks to our great tour guide Arma. He gave us a super nice tour at the waterfall and the temple, and all the information we wanted about the different plants and so on. The landscapes are mind blowing.

We had a wonderfull time with the greatest guide ever. Didik was from the area himself, so knew all the best places to see and how to get there. There was a lot of time to so extra things if you wanted to or to slow down so you could enjoy the great views around Magelang to the fullest. Also we had coffee at a lovely cafe, where we could taste the local coffee for ourselves.
Afterwards Didik sent us the photos he made with his camera and they were very good.
Great experience, would definitely recommend if you want to do something special in the region of Yogya.

Seeing the volcano with the waterfall in front of it. Later we went to the rice fields and we had the most delicious coffee with a beautiful view at the rice fields. The host took the time, never in a hurry, which was very relaxing

Very slow paced and relaxing excursion in beautiful peaceful countryside.
The car journeys to the stop points aren't too long and there's plenty to watch out the windows but this all about stunning scenery and an insight into local living at Selogriyo.
Some level of fitness is required to climb back up at the waterfall if you choose to go all the way down but the rest of the hiking is unchallenged and just being surrounded by awesome countryside and peace and quiet.
I was the only tourist/visitor to both the temple and the waterfall so it was a great escape from the city hustle and bustle.
My tour guide/driver was firstly a great safe driver but also helpful and insightful.

Arma , our guide made our trip memorable. We trekked through the rice terraces and made our way to the temple. Onthe way we met the locals and stopped for coffee on the way back at a great little cafe. We then travelled to the waterfall which was spectacular. We had lunch at a local restaurant before heading back. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys walking. Arma did a great job and was very informative. Hans & Judy.

This was an incredible experience to see the real Central Java. Walked through a small village preparing for a celebration, amazing terraced rice fields and got see a beautiful small Hindu Candi. I highly recommend this tour.

If you like hiking then you are with this tour. The Selogriyo Temple is to the North fo Jogja , passing Borobudur. There are nice Rice terraces to be seen and, if you are lucky,you can ctach a foto from Merapi Vulcano without clouds on the way to Seogriyo. In the area where the Temple is located, you have a hard choice of food and drink. At Temple and close to it is a limited food package available. We did not take this , but took lunch on the way to the other destination waterfall Kedung Kayang. . There you can test your head for heights. Depends where your accomodation is located, you waste a lot of time dor driving due to the density of traffic ( always more than 1,5h between the route sections). But finally the tour is a good experience and a good add on to the regular local tours.

This is a must do trip for people who wants to get away from the regular touristy things. I only saw tourist on the lunch stop. My driver Dani was 10 minutes early for my pick up time and warmly welcomed me to the tour. On this day it was only two of us that did the tour. Dani engaged us in genuine conversations throughout the entire tour. He stopped with us two separate times and bought us fruits ( snake fruit and rambutan) which came up in our conversations. This was to me by far the nicest gesture made by any tour guide. He ensured that we were taken care of every step of the way. He was never in a hurry with us. The views on this tour left me in total awe . The tour felt so personalized and authentic. I will not stop raving about how the tour was but, most especially how my guide was one of the most personable person that I have ever met.
