The cave is long and very cold and can be walked in complete safety. It's darker than limestone caves but the darkness brings more to the experience. The guide was nice and funny and made the experience an absolute blast.

Excellent Cave tour

Tim_M, Sep 2025
Very good cave tour of a lava cave. Footing is excellent most of the time, with wood walkways. There is one tight spot at the beginning, so if you are scared of tight spaces, that may be a concern. Very knowledgeable staff. Very interesting cave. It's off the beaten path a little, but it is close to Barnafoss (which you should see).

It is nice but if you...

It is nice but if you have seen lava caves before it can be skipped for what it cost. The experience is not very visual - you are basically in a black hole hearing geological explanations. The guide, Joseph, was very nice and funny.

Great educational tour!

Jacob_M, Aug 2025
We had such a fun time on the Cave Explorer tour! Our guide was hilarious and informative as he walked us through how the cave was created throughout time from a volcano eruption (sorry, can't remember his name!). The tour takes the full time, and when we were there the first week of August the cave was just above freezing, so bring layers including a warm hat and gloves! We had some strange comments on our tour from others so let me say this: #1) this is an educational tour, not a thrill seeking nonstop cave exploration tour. The group stops in different sections for 10 minutes or so to learn. If you have children who can't sit still or won't be able to handle listening during the tour, perhaps don't bring them or don't book this tour. I found it to be informative and fun, and anyone who can do sets of steps and can walk on ramps should be able to do this tour! #2) if you choose to bring children, leave the light up shoes at home.

Well Run Facility!

Todd_W, Jul 2025
It is a well run facility with good tour guides. Pretty interesting stuff. It has a nice boardwalk through most of the tunnel which makes it easy to navigate.

Do not miss this Lava Tube experience!

Amazing experience! Definitely make it a stop during your trip. Knowledgable guides. Our guide, Tristan, was great!

So fun!

This was a blast! We loved the tour. It was so interesting and the employees are so nice and educational! We also loved seeing the owners doggy.

Cool way to see a new terrain!

Elizabeth_P, Sep 2023
While in Iceland it was great to be able to explore all different types of terrains. Although the caves don't seem as exciting as waterfalls and glaciers at first, it was still fascinating to learn about why and how they were formed and the importance of them.

A really immersive and informative visit to a natural wonder.

This tour was led by young, enthusiastic and very informed guides. There clearly enjoy their work, and engaged a pretty large and diverse group very effectively. The opportunity to see the "inside story" of lava activity and just enjoy the unique setting is really captivating. We even had a couple of people who were somewhat claustrophobic and our guides sensitively and expertly walked them through the experience in a way that allowed them to enjoy the entire expedition.

Viator will not give a refund if any emergencies prevent you from attending (flat tire)

Rebecca_C, Mar 2023
The tour for the 4 of us was wonderful, however, my son other got a flat tire and could not attend and Viator refused to refund the money. I apologize for not being able to predict a flat tire 24 hours prior to tour.

Lovely volcanic tube

Superbe expérience

Marie_G, Apr 2025
Belle expérience, notre guide a été super et même avec notre fille de 2 ans et demi nous avons pu faire l’expérience. De très bonnes chaussures de randonnée imperméables sont importantes. Les casques sont fournis. On recommande !

Beaucoup d’infos...

Emilie_L, Mar 2025
