Overview

Pelican Point is a great place to see marine life in Walvis Bay—a colony of tens of thousands of Cape fur seals makes its home there year-round—but it is not particularly easy to get to. This tour takes you along the lagoon and salt mines to the point on a 4x4 vehicle, and provides the kayaking know-how to cruise the protected part of the peninsula near the colony.
  • Kayak among a colony of tens of thousands of Cape fur seals at the tip of Pelican Point
  • Stop along the way to take pictures of flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants
  • Value: transportation, brunch, and water resistant clothing are provided
  • A morning tour leaves the rest of the day free to explore

We had a great time. Our guide SJ came to the cruise port to pick us up and took us to the office very close to the cruise port. If you are being picked up at the cruise port, make sure you cross the bridge then WALK 200 meters to the small yellow gate by the very long fence to meet them as they cannot come in to the parking lot by the bridge. From the office SJ drove us and the kayaks to the point, the last section of the drive was on sand and it was Super fun. SJ talked to us about life in Namibia and near the sand dunes. At the point he unloaded all the kayaks and did all the work to keep us comfortable, we basically got on the kayaks on sand and he pushed us out so we don’t get wet. We were given pants and shirts to help with sun protection, as well as life vest. And kayaking with the seals was so fun. They were all around us splashing and frolicking. They were so close and kept on following the kayaks. We had a great time and would highly recommend this tour for your outing. The hot tea and coffee and lunch were very welcoming after the few cold splashes in the water

Good and a must do activity in Swakopmund. The guides are helpful and knowledgeable. We had a great time kayaking with the seals at pelican point.

The best way to spend a morning!

Sooooooo manyyyyyyy seals - even if you’ve seen seals or been in the water with them…..not this many! We were on a cruise and the company had good communication, transport and timing. SJ was a wealth of info and v interesting chap himself - ask him questions should you be lucky enough to have him as your driver! The experience was priceless. I’m coming back as a walvis bay Namibian seal if there is reincarnation cause it’s all about playing eating and sleeping :)

Great fun with the seals

Kayaking tour

The tour was fun and informative. Our excellent guide, SJ, grew up in Namibia and spoke English perfectly. He was extremely knowledgeable and very concerned about conserving the environment while sharing his love for his country. The fur seals were so close and the young (teenaged) ones played with our kayak paddles! We also saw flamingoes, pelicans, sea birds, and black backed jackals. The tour company equipment was in good shape and plenty for everyone. The kayaking was not much exercise as the fur seals were so close to our water entry site. So we basically paddled a few strokes and then drifted, letting the animals come to us as they wished. It was lovely to have hot chocolate, muffins and sandwiches on the beach! It was a fantastic day! I would highly recommend SJ and pelican tours.

Once in a lifetime!

Our guide SJ was fabulous, kind, caring, and knowledgeable. Could not have been better. Every detail covered. Once in a lifetime experience with the seals. Excellent communication before meeting. We were up close to the seals, watching the males, morhers abs pups. A must magic moment!

Relaxed but memorable

Our favorite part was when the seal jumped on our kayak! Very easy kayak trip, even for beginners. Plus lots of great birding.

Great Kayaking Experience!

Pelican Point Kayaking is a great operator. The whole experience was very well organized. It was a really cool adventure, including the drive to Pelican Point. SJ was a fantastic guide. He was very informative the whole time, and great at answering all questions. I also enjoyed his stories of his adventure water sports, as I'm a water sports guy as well. I highly recommend these guys for the kayaking trip. You see a lot of seals on land, and swimming all around you in the water. Plus we got lucky and saw dolphins as well. You will love it!

Best Tour!!!!!

Great trip with plenty of wildlife

We were picked up from the cruise port and had a fun drive to Pelican Point. We seen pelicans and dingos on the way. The seal conoly was massive and the seals are right around the kayaks. The guides were fabulous and looked after us all. Highly recommended 👌

Loved this tour

We had such great fun with our guide JD. The tour was great, such a splendid way to see the seals, we also spotted some dolphins but they were far. We had little experience kayaking, you don't need to be an expert to do this. The coffee and food were very tasty. We stopped on our way to see the pink lake and big waves. The car got stuck in the sand (fun for the tourists, not so much for JD😅) but we got out within 10 minutes. Many thanks for a great day

Thank you so much! We are happy you enjoyed your time with us.

Get up close and personal with some sea puppies!

David_M, Mar 2023
If you want to see fur seals up close and personal, this is the tour for you! If you’re visiting Walvis Bay and are interested in seeing the seals, I would 100% recommend doing this tour. Our tour guide, Jasmine, was amazing at every step of the way. She started our drive teaching us all about the wildlife we saw and the industry of the area. We even got to see a few jackals! She was great at stopping for pictures at all the right spots. When we got to the bay where the seals were, she was great at helping guide us around and taking pictures of us with the seals. The seals were so much fun to kayak with! They swam right up to us and kept swimming around getting close enough to almost touch them. Both the pups and the seniors were curious and just wanted to play, following us around as we went along. After kayaking for over an hour, we had a nice little picnic on the beach before beginning our trip back. Jasmine made sure to stop as well on the way back so we could get the best pictures of the flamingos and even some pelicans. Overall, this was a ton of fun and would recommend to anyone who visits!

Unique Experience!

The up-close interaction with the seals without harming them. Great experience! Would highly recommend to any new visitors

Bellissima esperienza!
