Itinerary

Your Balinese arts and crafts tour starts with hotel pickup by coach in Kuta, Sanur or Nusa Dua for the drive to your first stop, the village of Celuk, known for its silver and gold works. With your guide, observe silversmiths and goldsmiths at work as they make jewelry in their workshops and galleries. Hear about the families of jewelers that live in the village, and be wowed by the elaborate process it takes to create these intricate rings, broaches and other pieces.

Next, head to the village of Mas, where you’ll be immersed in Bali’s woodcarving culture, which produces some of the world’s finest pieces of wood art. Learn about the history of woodcarving on the island, and admire the style of woodcarving in Mas, which is quite renowned around the globe, including its naturalistic forms. You’ll also have a chance to meet local woodcarvers who create things like masks used in traditional dance performances.

Finally, make your way to Ubud, Bali’s art and culture center. Among the local crafters, international painters and other artists also work here. With your guide, visit one of Ubud’s highest-quality shops, one of dozens in town, to learn about what makes Balinese art distinctive. Admire paintings both traditional and contemporary, and then return to the coach for drive back to your starting point for drop-off.

The tour was lovely and a good start to discovering Bali. Guides were great. Be warned - you are taken to top end stores and you'll get better deals for the exact same/similar things (except maybe silver) in Legian/Kuta. Lunch was just beautiful.
