We were blessed with amazing weather. Kayaks in middle of nowhere, nature and birds - all created amazing experience.

We had a very rainy trip given the fact that it rains 200 days a year here, but that did give us thousands of temporary waterfalls. The ship accommodations were adequate, the food and drinks were delicious. The naturalist was very entertaining, knowledgeable and insightful and truly made the trip for us. During the rain I opted to take the boat ride to get closer to the shore, but unfortunately the driver of the boat was very soft spoken and between the rain and the motor, only the 3 people closest to him could hear his comments. Unlike with other boat excursions, he only drove in one direction, so if you were on the wrong side, everything he pointed out was directly behind you and impossible to see. On other boats the driver would turn the boat around so both sides of the boat could see.

A wonderful experience. The scenery was magical and don't be put off if rain is forecast as you will see a lot more waterfalls. The accommodation and food were really good and the boat never felt overcrowded

Very nice cruise! Staff friendly and knowledgeable! The Sound is beautiful!! Rooms were nice! Food was mediocre but there for the sightseeing so not a big deal!

The tour was amazing, from the transfer across Lake Manapouri to the onboard itinerary. The nature guide was informative and patiently answered all questions. Highlights included kayaking and a stop with engines silenced to appreciate the bird song and waterfalls. The food was very good. The cabin was very disappointing.

This is by far the best experience of seeing a fiord in NZ. Fantastic knowledge and welcoming feeling that the staff deliver sets it aside from just being a cruise.

So much more peaceful than Milford.
Does take longer (2hrs) to get to the Sound but well worth it. No planes, no helicopters. Only the Navigator.
The narrator was exceptional
Overnight cabin, again exceptional

This is a world class experience enhanced by friendly helpful staff
Accomodation and food were exceptional for such a remote area
We received lots of information and met engaged fellow travellers

There are not enough kayaks for all passengers on the boat. The kayaking experience was the reason we booked the overnight tour compared to a less expensive day tour. The rest of the cruise was fine, just be aware that you will have to fight for a kayak as not many people want to ride the jetty boat. Very disappointing as we did not get the experience we paid for.

The trip to Doubtful Sound was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip to New Zealand.
The weather was perfect and as it rained at night the waterfalls were in full flow on our return journey.
The crew were brilliant! They were so friendly and we learned so much about the area. The food was superb.
We would highly recommend this trip.

Excellent enthusiastic helpful and amazing staff running the whole operation. Lovely boat with great food and accommodation. Proximity to awesome natural beauty has to be experienced if you possibly can.

The trip was so unique - very informative, comfortable, fun, and we met some lovely people and saw sights and animals that we would never see anywhere else and learnt things we will remember forever.
All of the staff and crew were amazing.
Thank you so much!

Cannot recommend this highly enough! It was a lovely, peaceful, accessible way to experience Fiordland. The crew were friendly and helpful, the food was delicious (and plentiful!), the scenery was utterly stunning, the penguins were adorable, and the kayaking was fun. I understand the weather can be hit or miss but we got lucky with mostly clear skies. Nothing like sitting in the salon having a glass of NZ sauvignon blanc while watching mountains and waterfalls roll by when a smiling crew member comes up and asks if you’d like your complimentary charcuterie board now or later!

The crew were amazing comfortable rooms and of course the scenery was incredible five stars all around

Views and staff were good, nature guide was informative, room was basic, no hot water for the shower, but I think that was not the norm. Food was ok, not spectacular. . .take Ear plugs, it can be noisy.

This was the trip of a lifetime! From start to finish we couldn’t fault the staff, who we found friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The nature guide- Brock was entertaining and made the most of a difficult situation when his laptop failed to load his presentation. He carried on and very successfully delivered an off the cuff commentary, much to our delight. Our trip started with a rainy day which produced many temporary waterfalls in the mountains. Then we awoke to a fine day with sunshine and we all ventured outside to make the most of the photo opportunities. We were in a twin room and found it quite roomy, warm and comfortable. The food was good and plentiful. The whole experience was very memorable and we would recommend it highly to others.

Our experience was great. The organisation of the trip was superb. All the staff we met were very friendly, helpful and informative. Our cabin was clean. The beds were comfortable. All the food on board was well presented and delicious.

The cruise was fantastic! We were awed and inspired by nature. Highly recommend going! Ferry, bus, ship ran smoothly considering your out in the middle of nowhere. Very comfortable accommodations and plenty of food. Crew was friendly and made things fun with commentary, sights to see, kayaking, and swimming. Mother Nature did not disappoint in this pristine place!!!

Wonderful in most ways except the bathroom facilities were hostel style, I gather the other boat, navigator has some private bathrooms. Didn't bother me though. We have been spoiled by the barista coffee on our holiday so it was a blow to only have coffee from a big pump flask. I would be willing to buy premium coffee at the bar. Please put a machine in.

Our overnight cruise of Doubtful Sound was an absolutely unforgettable experience, perfectly structured into three key parts that each added to the overall adventure.
The trip began with a ferry ride across Lake Manapouri, offering stunning views right from the start. The second leg, a coach transfer over Wilmot Pass, took us through some of the most breathtaking wilderness, with towering peaks and lush rainforests surrounding us. Finally, the actual cruise through Doubtful Sound was the highlight, with the serene beauty of the fjord constantly captivating us.
The boat was spacious and well-equipped, providing great amenities that made the stay on board enjoyable. Even with a full complement of passengers, it never felt crowded, and everyone could find their own quiet corner to take in the incredible scenery.
What really made the trip special was the crew. They were incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting insights and stories about the Sound and its wildlife. Their warmth and attentiveness made us feel welcome and well cared for throughout.
One of the most thrilling moments was seeing seals lounging on the rocks and dolphins playfully swimming alongside the boat. Watching these creatures in their natural habitat was such a joy.
And the views – they were simply out of this world. Our favorite moment was during the “Sound of Silence,” where the boat paused, and we were able to fully absorb the sights and sounds of nature in complete stillness. It was a truly magical experience.
The commentary provided along the journey added depth to the experience, enriching our understanding of this unique place. It was the perfect balance of learning and immersion in nature.
Overall, this cruise is a must-do for anyone visiting New Zealand. The natural beauty, the thoughtful structure of the trip, and the excellent crew made it an exceptional adventure!

Excellent sights, guides, and food. It rained the 1st night, but by morning the it was clear and the water was glass. They have so much delicious food!

Amazing trip. Boat ferry to bus ride over the pass to the cruise boat. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Nice ship. Clean but tiny accommodations. Spectacular views. Kayaking and swim from boat. Delicious and plentiful food. We loved every minute.

Food was plentiful and good. Boat is and so are the sleeping quarters. Well run. Scenery is stunning.
