The city of Skopje, was alot more than I expected. Full of history, shops, restaurants and bars. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was wrong. Stefan was my driver… what a great guy!
Emi_M, Dec 2024
I loved Skopje. What charming and intriguing place.
Meeting point for the tour was easy to find. I got there first, and our driver Stefan arrived about 10 minutes before the start time. On the way there, he shared some tips and insights about Skopje.
We had 2 restroom stops on the way which was nice to have.
The drive was 4 hours each way but it did not bother me at all. The van was comfortable and I slept most of the way.
Border crossing was very smooth and Stefan handled it efficiently.
Once we arrived in Skopje, a local guide was there waiting for us and took over then. It was a cold rainy day and it was nice of her to take us to a place where we can guy scarfs, umbrellas and gloves etc. before we started the tour.
The city has a lot to see, the tour had many stops but felt a bit rushed. She moved on and walked fast between stops , and I couldn’t hear her sometimes because she was talking while walking. But the sound of rain made it difficult to hear her.
Before the tour ended, the guide took us to a cafe where credit cards were not accepted. We had to go to a nearest ATM with a poor rate and a high fee to get cash.
I suggest taking about $20 worth of cash in Macedonian Denar.
If not, always ask if cards are accepted wherever you go, before you order anything.
Skopje’s old town was so charming, and felt like a maze. There seemed to be a lot of great food options. Next time I will fly directly into Skopje and stay there for at least a few days!
Thank you Stefan and B Travel!

The driver Philip was great and kept us entertained both with history and stories, while driving safely and on time. It takes about 3.5 hours each way without traffic (so 8-9 hours) so without him we'd be really bored and exhausted. We spent 3.5 hours in Skopje. The tour guide there was OK though she had a tendency to talk too quietly and to start talking before the entire group arrived, which, in a loud city like Skopje meant that we didn't hear much of what she said. Skopje is a nice town with a strong Ottoman influence and worth a visit (though honestly not as nice as say Plovdiv or Sofia in my opinion), and I think this tour company is a great way to do that

It was public day in Macedonia, thus, we are not able to enter the museums. The local tour guide tried her best to bring us around. As we are only three in the tour group, the company didn't use the mini van and only using the car. It is very tiring to travel such a long distance in car as the space inside the car is limited.
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Thank you very much for your feedback. In our efforts to conduct the tour even for a small group, we do our best to accommodate people in comfortable and spacious estate car with maximum legroom. In such case most people are happy because they get a privat eservice for the price of a group tour. Unfortunately the distance is lng and we have clearly stated this.

North Macedonia is like Monte Carlo in Balkan. So clean, nice places to eat.Lots of culture ,statues all over the place.Really beautiful. We hade Bulgarian driver Stefan, service minded, very safe driver, friendly. The guide in Skopje she was professional to.Only thing was so stressful to find meeting point. So it is next to moskee, opposite to Mac Donald.I spend hours to find it,no number and if you not psychic it is disastrous. So don’t take the trip without pick up at your hotel.

The bad:
After immigration we headed straight to Skopje and we were handed over to another guide for a 2 hour walking tour which started immediately with no breaks for toilet nor food. We can get those in Old Bazaar which is the last stop. So pls visit the toilets when you get the chance during the driving breaks; and bring along some snacks.
Itinerary states admission included to Museum City of Skopje - we only see it from the outside and there was no admission. Itinerary also states admission into Mother Teresa house is free but we only had a few minutes for photo stops there. None of us in the group entered the house. I didn't know we can go inside until I reread the itinerary while writing this review.
The Good:
Driver was awesome, pickup vehicle was there waiting early before the pickup time. Safe driving skills with beautiful countryside scenery along the way. Driver handled the immigration process smoothly. Lucky for us the wait for immigration at the borders wasn't very long when getting there and back.
Overall it was a good trip for a day tour to a different country - but the itinerary and its delivery needs to be more matching.

Our driver picked us up at the time and place indicated and we began driving towards Skopje. Along the way he answered questions and gave a bit of history. Once in Macedonia, we met up with our guide for the day. The instructions were clear as to where to meet after the tour. Our guide explained sites and history wonderfully as we navigated through Skopje. Parts of this group would go to take photos and stray away- which did take away time while we waited for them to catch up. My suggestion would be due to the limited time and fast pace, make sure you stay with the guide. There will have 2 hours to go back and get photos after at your leisure. Overall a wonderful trip! Driver and guide were both great I would recommend this tour

This review is not for Skopje itself, more about the company. I was at the meeting point for the Skopje day trip and after 20-30 mins, no car for my trip came. There was a car for the Nis, Serbia day trip and Michael was the driver/tour guide. I asked him about my trip and after looking, I had booked the wrong month. I was there with my passport, lunch and snack, ready for a day trip, so I asked if I could join the Serbia day trip instead. He called the office and within 2 minutes, it was confirmed and I was going to Serbia with the other tour! It was a fantastic day trip but I want to say a huge 'Thank You' to Michael for being so chill and cool about the situation and helping me change tours. Would definitely recommend this company.

Georgi was the driver for the trip from Sofia to Skopje. His English was excellent !! During the ride he explained a lot of the history of the region, the peoples, the wars etc. He eagerly answered questions during the ride and at the breaks. In summary, our tour began as soon as we were in the car as Georgi put on his “tour guide hat”. Lucky us ! The 5 stars go to Georgi.
Once we arrived in Skopje, a local guide met us and gave the tour of the city. Even though we were spoiled by Georgi’s style, language skills and knowledge, 3.5 - 4.0 go to the local guide.
Many thanks to both !

Great organisation and friendly from Start to finish definitely would do another. Met the tour guide straight off bus which was perfect.
Mary_H, May 2024
Our driver was very well informed about Bulgarian and Macedonian hidtory and culture which made the long drive much nicer. The scenery is gorgeous. Skopje was vibrant and the guide shared interesting stories that brought the history to life.
Alberto_H, May 2024
Very long trip 4h go 4h return (maybe more depending on border's time) for a short stay another 4h.
The driver was nice, the guide at the bus also.
We just put 4* because of the guide in Skopje, she was a bit rude with us.
The tour was fast and not very interesting and some people left the group to have more time to explore for free.
By the way It is an interesting way to know a bit of Macedonia.
Kris, Apr 2024
Informative tour guide sharing the history of Skopje.
There was only two of us going thus felt like private tour.
Nicola_A, Dec 2023
Thank you to Phillip for making the journey so entertaining. We had the best time you were great. Also 👩🏼⚖️👩🏼⚖️👩🏼⚖️
And thank you to Vlad for taking us around Skopje
Tg_S, Nov 2023
Nice small group...only 3 of us ..The driver Mr Philip was so kind to bring us to the mountain side at Macedonia where we can see the nice view of sun set and nice cathedral on top of the mountain.
Mira_D, Nov 2023
Skopje is a nice add-on to your Bulgarian experience and very different from Sofia. This small country, formerly a republic of Yugoslavia is very rich and alive with history. This is a small group by van and a nicer experience than with a large bus tour. Filip from Bulgaria gave us a run-down of Bulgarian history and Vlado our guide in Skopje gave insight in North Macedonian history. Our time at border crossing went smoothly due to less tourist traffic this time of year. This is a very long day, but is a memorable tour.
Richelle_H, Nov 2023
Great walking tour with local guide in Skopje who was very informative. You pass by the museum, but don't actually visit it. A bit of a long drive, although multiple chances to stop for breaks as needed.
Angel_R, Aug 2023
Skopje is a very beautiful and culturally rich city. Lots to see in one day. The tour was very informative but it would have benefited from following the schedule to allow enough time for lunch. Also, the restaurant we were recommended for lunch was dirty and the food was inedible. Other than the issue with lunch, the tour was well worth it.
Derek_L, Aug 2023
Booking was easy, the meeting point was clear, and the journey and tour were good. Everything went as expected and it was a nice getaway from Sofia. I'd recommend that future travelers get water and/or a snack before starting the walking tour. We didn't have a break for food until hours after arriving. Also, be sure to pay attention to how to return to the meeting point. My group didn't realize that we wouldn't be taken back to the starting point, so there was some confusion about how to get back. Overall, however, this was a good trip.
Amirun_R, Aug 2023
Our guild was really knowledgeable with excellent English. Answered questions. The beginning was at a steady pass and then rushed. 12 hours is really not enough time. It’s 4 hours each way so that leaves you with 4 hours and out of this we had 2 stop breaks on the way up and down, which we all needed. Our driver was excellent, very friendly, asked us how we would like our breaks and if we felt that was enough time, really took consideration into he’s passengers. We returned back 2 hours late and no fault as to our driver and yet he was really relaxed.
Zachary_S, Jun 2023
We had a van and just 4 people on the trip so it was very comfortable. Our driver was Georgi and he was really great. Everything went smooth with him and he told us all about the relationship between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. He also told us to make our own opinion though and ask our local North Macedonian guide in Skopje about the same issues and see what he says. Our guide of Skopje was Smile (smeeleh). He was born and raised in Skopje and was really passionate about his country and gave us great insights about the political situation of North Macedonia and their relations with Bulgaria (mostly opposite of what Georgi said). I didn’t have much knowledge of the Balkans and former Yugoslavia before this so I’m glad I really learned a lot. Smile loved to talk but the tour was still great. We had nice food in the Bazaar. Drive back was good. Skopje is an amazing city and I highly recommend a visit there. Amazing monuments and culture.
Alastair_M, May 2023
A long, but well worthwhile day. An easy way to visit another country, and is close by to Sofia. Skopje was a very pleasant surprise. Beautiful buildings, an interesting museum in the old railway station, and the old town side streets and restaurants. Would recommend a visit.
Miriam_S, Dec 2022
I had a great tour. Our driver and guide were awesome. So im recommending both of them/companies.
However the reason I don’t recommend this tour is because the transport time from Sofia to Skopje is very long. It takes at least 4-5 hours each way depending on the queue at the border and traffic.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Dear Miriam, thank you so much for the feedback! Indeed, it is a long drive, also for our guides and drivers, also border check slows down the traveling. I believe that that there are many interesting places to visit closer to Sofia, but many people ask to go to Skopje, which is another country and another capital.
Ryan_E, Oct 2022
Skopje is a really interesting city, both old & new and a great tour if you want to visit North Macedonia! About 4 hours each away but worth the journey and our driver Georgi was really friendly :)
Sam_R, Mar 2022
This trip is amazing - we had the best day. Our driver Ivan picked us up exactly at 8am and was welcoming from the start. He was a great storyteller about Bulgarian history while also answering any questions we had. He was also very considerate, allowing us to stop when needed to stretch our legs on the drive. The journey went so quickly because of how much fun we had!
When we arrived in Skopje we were met by our Macedonian tour guide. Like Ivan, he was also very welcoming and friendly. He then proceeded to give us a tour of beautiful Skopje which was incredibly enjoyable. The city is amazing and the tour was just as good. We also had time to explore the city ourselves which we really enjoyed.
Overall we had an amazing day thanks to a great tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sofia. 5 stars!
ANGELA_H, Jan 2020
Such an interesting place to visit - so much history & tasteful rejuvenation following the earthquake in 1963. Lovely tributes to Mother Teresa. Our Guide Ivan was fluent in English, charming, attentive company, making us feel safe & able to ask lots of questions. Our lunch stop was carefully selected & the day’s agenda fluidly adapted to suit our interests. He drove safely (4 hours each way from Sofia) & made regular pit stops to suit our needs.
A great way to get a taste of North Macedonia, which is very different to Sofia.
Happy to Highly Recommend this Tour.
