by communicating the way, you do. Visting Petra is an extraordinary experience, unique, the monastery too full of tourists
Andy_J, Feb 2026
The visit to Petra is simply amazing. It is well worth the time spent getting there, however there is no escaping the fact that it is very, very long.
Our trip started at 00:45 and ended at about midnight. It was all incredibly efficient though and by and large ran like clockwork. The only delay was when we arrived in Aqaba we were kept on the ferry for about an hour as a customs officer hadn’t turned up. There’s quite a bit of queuing too, you queue to leave Egypt and again to enter Jordan, and then the reverse on the way back. It is mostly queuing outside, it’s still dark (in early Feb) and was quite cold so make sure you have a jacket with you.
The guides were great, and our tour bus catered for three languages. I saw previous reviews where people said that people spoke over the guides when it wasn’t their language but that wasn’t our experience.
Petra itself is a sight to behold, absolutely stunning! The Treasury, jaw dropping! And the site is huge, we could have done with an entire day as you just can’t see it all in the few hours you are there for.
There is a walk of around 45 mins in each direction which is downhill on the way in and therefore uphill on the way out. We are both 65, and quite active, but had no issues at all with the hike. You can take a golf buggy (which I think is $22 cash each, one way. Please check as I’m not too sure, or take a horse).
We felt the lunch at a nearby hotel wasn’t great, but as it came at the end of the visit to Petra and we were about to sit on a coach for several hours, it was better not to over eat!
Some have complained about the toilet stops being at shopping villages to buy souvenirs, but I couldn’t really see any other options. That said, there was absolutely zero hassle where we stopped, the vendors showed respect and left you alone to browse in peace. And no tips required to use the toilet!
Don’t be put off by the journey, it really wasn't too arduous! Petra is an unforgettable experience, the Jordanian people are so friendly and welcoming, it is well, well worth it!
I’m not sure why no one offers a two or three day trip though, if they did, we would have done that instead.
Roshan_P, Jan 2026
It's a long day but well worth it. Starts with a pickup at the hotel, then go on to a bus for close to 3 hours. From there it's a roughly 1 hour ferry to another bus that is about 2 to 3 hours long. They take enough breaks along the way. Once you're in Petra you realize it's all worth the effort.
anna_m, Jan 2026
Its an amazing opportunity to see another country in a short space of time. You need stamina that might dwindle at the end, as it is a pick up 00.45 and you return roughly the same time. Petra was awesome. And the English speaking guide Eddy was cheerful and informative. I was worried about the walk to the treasury and back as a middle aged lady with knee problems. But i made it ok. The walk is around 45 minutes each way and is uphill coming back. Go me! There are golf carts and horses if you don't prefer to walk. The bus stops for toilet breaks and you can browse the bazaars and buy snacks. The ferry ride is great and you get the fresh sea air and views approaching Jordan. Two things I didn't like. Firstly the immigration and customs process (particularly coming back into Egypt) was slow. You feel it at the end of a long day standing forever in a massive queue. Secondly the coach drops you off at the end point in Sharm el Sheikh and you get in a minibus to continue the final hotel drops, this transfer went smoothly, however the minibus driver had his phone in one hand and a piece of paper in the other whilst driving he was on his phone the whole time!
HERNANDO_R, Jan 2026
Goos views. They thing in stops for eat and restroom. Explain everything and was sure. They were pendient about migration and tickets
MARIAN_J, Jan 2026
Great experience and memories.
Definetly worth the expense.
Get plenty of rest before you begin your journey and 1 am pick up.
Physically challenging (62 yr.old female) however thank God I survived. 😀🙏🏾
Alot of movement charter bus & ferry.
Stay sober and vigilant.
I walked to and fro the Siq and ampitheater took great photos.
The lunch stop restaurant food was delicious be sure to try the lentil soup.
Beverages arent included in the meal.
Outstanding overall experience.

Petra itself is incredible and well worth the trip.
Seemed to be quite a lot of waiting around and the food inc was cold and not the best.
The guides were very informative and helpful.
dtakhar01, Dec 2025
If you're in Sharm el Sheikh and like to explore, this is a must. It's a long journey but you are looked after all the way in both countries. Petra is breathtaking and so worth the journey

An amazing trip. I would definitely recommend this trip, bring a pillow. It’s a long day. The tour guide Muhammad was awesome. He made the trip great. And his knowledge of the history and local customs was very informative and pleasurable.

Absolutely Amazing, I loved every Second!! Its a long day, but Absolutely worth it!! I will be back!! The tour guide was SUPER ♥️💯🇪🇬
Kayla_M, Oct 2025
It’s one hell of an adventure to get to Petra. It’s a long ride, but they were very punctual, they moved us fast and effectively, stopped for bathrooms, we had plenty of time in Petra, had a buffet lunch after, I was very happy with the overall experience
Marisa_E, Oct 2025
I wish I could split this review into two parts: the first tour guide was terrible, but the second one was amazing.
Before the trip, I confirmed via messages that my Insta360 camera was allowed. I even sent a photo of it, and the company assured me it was fine — only large professional cameras with zoom lenses weren’t accepted.
Everything started great: pickup was smooth, and the charter bus was comfortable. But once we reached the ferry, the first guide began asking about cameras. I explained I’d already cleared mine with the company, yet he insisted it wouldn’t pass and claimed the office staff “didn’t know better.” At inspection, he even pointed out my camera to the guards, who confiscated it with no tag, receipt, or confirmation. He said it would be returned on the Egypt side.
After that, things improved. The ferry and bus rides were comfortable, and there were plenty of restroom and drink stops. Lunch was good, though chaotic — the restaurant should have organized the buffet line to avoid the crowd cutting and arguments that followed.
Once we reached Petra, the second guide completely turned the experience around. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and well-prepared — explained prices, gave great tips, shared interesting facts, and gave us time to explore. Thanks to him, Petra was unforgettable.
On our return, we got the camera back — but to my shock, there were new videos clearly recorded by the first guide. It was uncomfortable knowing he’d gone through private photos, including ones of us in swimsuits.
The drop-off process at the end was rushed and confusing; they split groups into smaller buses and weren’t clear about hotel names, so we nearly missed our stop.
Overall, despite a rocky start, the trip was amazing — Petra was absolutely worth it. We felt completely safe everywhere, even though we were nervous about traveling due to the conflict in Gaza and Israel. I’m so glad we didn’t cancel. I’d do it again — now knowing what to expect.
Mark_H, Oct 2025
It is a long day of travel but the experience was amazing. The transportation and travel logistics were very well coordinated. The guide on the Jordan side was great. He shared information about the country of Jordan, and provided lots of details on Petra as we were walking in to see the Treasury. There was plenty of time available at Petra to take pictures and explore.
Nicole_H, Sep 2025
Such a good trip! Definitely worth the travel! The treasury is one of the most incredible experiences I have ever witnessed. Get picked up at 1 am and the drive to the port is around 4 to 5 hours however my advice would be to try sleep during this time as it went very fast, felt more like 1/2 hour. You are on the Siri for around 1 and a 1/2 hour. Once in Jordan immigration was very fast all you have to do is that an immigration card similar to the one you filled out in Egypt when you landed.
The drive to Petra is around two hours and you have to stop for a toilet break and drink. There's not much to see in Jordan however still something different it was all very safe. I feel like there was a lot of negative stigma with everything that's happening in Gaza. I'm a 28-year-old blonde woman and I did not feel unsafe at any point during my trip I did wear a long pants however I did wear Spaghetti strap crop top and again I still felt safe wearing this. There were some girls wearing a shorts, however please be mindful that the general consensus is to cover up legs and shoulders.
We stopped in a Jordanian restaurant which was included in the price and lunch was absolutely amazing. 10 out of 10. The food was really nice
Wants me up to the ride at the Petra site the walk down towards the treasury is around 30 minutes. It's relatively cool due to the altitude/being in the mountain. I still wouldn't recommend bringing any form of jumper, et cetera. The walk of the treasury is a slow decline however you can get a horse on the way down. The horse is included in your Petra ticket whether they ask for tip and a very solid on this there is no getting around not paying them for a horse ride the treasure itself is fascinating and incredible site to see 10 out of time. Wish I have done it sooner. You are then given some free time around 2 to 3 hours to go and explore by yourself if you go past the treasury you can see how the Jordanian Burge live thousands of years ago. I can explore pretty much by ourselves by walking up mountains it's quite relaxed and all of security.
The locals are really nice however they do try sell things. Locals on the accept US dollar, euro and their local currency. Don't buy souvenirs from the first shop you see I would buy souvenirs from the shops past the Treasury.
Walk back to the court is pretty difficult and we ended up getting a horse. We did explain to the man that we only had Egyptian money and they accept this however when we got to the top they seem to be hungry. I thought we only had Egyptian money as the exchange rate for Jordanian people is pretty bad.
Finding out we only had Egyptianmoney, the locals looking after the horses became angry and ended up striking the horse twice across the face which I found quite disturbing. The horses role are generally good condition condition and have water however they dig going up the mountain and it made me guilty and made me consider getting off the horse and walking the rest of the way for a good portion of the ride. We also witnessed them throwing rocks and stones at the horses legs and feet to make them move faster which I also did not like.
There is a free museum at the top where horses are don't recommend visiting the end time of your trip as it has some arts that wefe excavated.
Please be my enough food of water is given on the strip you have to provide for your own food and liquid. The only thing that's provided is lunch which we had around 12 pm.

Long Day, But certainly worth it.. scenery on the way through Jordan, to Petra itself is stunning...
Pawel_P, Mar 2025
Excellent trip , long but really enjoyable. Well organised. Only issue is a lack information.ation on website what to do with visa if you plan go to Cairo another day.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Hello Pawel,
Thank you so much for your nice words. Glad to know that you had enjoyable day in Petra.
In case we know about your future plans and trips (for example you booked Cairo trip with us) we will definitely follow up with Egyptian visa requirements. It’s an obligation of a Cairo tour organiser, and mostly not yours.
We hope you will be back to Egypt for more experiences.
Best regards,
Cleotours team

Phwar what a long day! Petra is of course worth it, but you need to consider a few things before you book this trip:
- It is an extremely long day, most of which you will spend on buses and boats (up to 9 hours each way)
- Starts from 1am and will get you home a similar time 24 hours later
- If you are English-speaking, it’s worth noting this is a predominantly Russian-speaking tour. The main tour guide seems excellent (who does the Russian bit), with the English speaking guide leaving a lot to be desired
- The food is quite low quality and the canteen where we ate choatic and rushed - chicken and other items were cold so I mostly didn’t risk it, making this quite pointless. Bring lots of snacks and water!!
Overall I enjoyed Petra so much that it made it worth it despite these down-sides. Would I do it this way again? Probably not.
My advice?
- If it’s your only option - do it.
- If you can spend a night over in Jordan, this would be far more preferable allowing you to enjoy it more without feeling totally exhausted

The tour was very well organized given how many people were present and the short time frame you’re operating in. The food was lackluster and they charge you for water, soda, and/or juice. You will be tired by the end but glad you did it.

I went together with my brother. The trip started at 00:30am and took roughly 24hrs. Tour was well organized with pickup, big bus, ferry, bus in Jordan and back.
We had the full 4hours in Petra as advertised which was important to us. 2 hours guided tour + 2 hours to explore on our own - good split. For exploration time we spent 1 hour to climb up the mountain to the sanctum for a great view.
Groups were separated into russian speaking, polish speaking and english speaking.
Our english speaking guide Raid was great - very knowledgable, laid back guy.
Lunch at a restaurant after the tour was a buffett and very decent as well.
The tour itself as we experienced it was a 5* - just taking a star off as the price is on the higher side - but as a once in a lifetime we can definetly recommend it as its not just the sandstone walls but the narrow gorges and valleys are impressive as well + Aqaba is very pretty and the ferry ride is quite fun and helps to lighten up the trip.
The whole trip is a bit exhausting but you can catchup on sleep during the bus ride and onboard the ferry.

Quick fire:
Petra is a 7 wonder of the world and rightly so. It's vast in size, simply breathtaking and utterly beautiful. The photos, films and TV shows haven't overdone it, it's full of surprises!
The tour was very well organised.
Jordan: beautiful country, lovely people. Travelling in December was still great: 24C in Aqaba, 19C in Petra. 26ac in Sharm.
All Sunny & dry.
I felt safe & welcome from arriving.
Egyptian side is different : also a fantastic country however be aware there is a notable security risk for tourists so the drive up from Sharm is relatively slow as we went through checkpoints and awaited a police escort on the highway.
Reassuring, but slow.
Customs / immigration to get out of Egypt and into Jordan is VERY slow. Almost frustratingly slow: and that's before the staff didn't turn up on time in Jordan to allow us back onto the catamaran and the scheduled departure to come back was missed by some 2 hours. This is quite common. So be prepared and be flexible and patient!
The day therefore was a full 25 hours pick up to drop off and exhausting.
Beware of this before you book so you're prepared. But my god it's worth it.
The guides incl Zaid in Jordan were EXCELLENT. He guided the English speaking group and was SO good. Educational, entertaining and ensured we had a good 90 mins free time in Petra.
Lunch - in a Jordanian restaurant in Wadi Musa was average but incl (except drinks).
If at all possible, get yourself into Jordan first, stay in earby Wadi Musa, get to Petra when it opens and spend a full day there. Then the next day too. And maybe a third. Bring a packed lunch.
It's an awesome place.
Despite the situation over the border(s) southern Jordan is very safe and the people desperately need the tourists. Petra is also very quiet so gives us a much better experience.

Hello Paul,
Thank you so much for your glowing review! We’re so happy you enjoyed your time with us.
Totally agree with you that Petra is worth seeing.
Thank you for your patience at the customs - something that is out of our control.
Guide Zayd is thrilled to hear your kind words! Thank you for the shoutout.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Cecile_L, Oct 2024
The 24h day trip to Petra was very long and tiring with hours in buses, customs and boat.
It was well worth all the travel when we finally arrived in Petra.
The English speaking guide was very knowledgeable. We spent 3 hours visiting the Unesco sites. We did not do the short horse ride but walk the all visit. We had time to visit all the main sites and take many pictures. The walk in the canyons, the Tresury, the Roman Theatre... was amazing.
The down side of the experience (in addition to the long journey which we were prepared for) was the Russian speaking guide.
Our group was 2/3 Russian speaking and 1/3 English speaking. The Russian speaking guide seems to like the sound of his own voice as he monopolised the mike in the bus from Aqaba to Petra and back. He spoke most of the time leaving few occasions for the English speaking guide to give information. This was particularly annoying on the return journey as we were up for more the 17 hours and the constent Russian talk when you don't speak the language only resulted in giving me a migraine.
Also we did enjoy the visit of Petra which was on our bucket list, I would clearly remind the guides that they should be mindful of the various people in the group and not focus mainly on the Russian speaking ones.

Fabulous day trip to Petra, the guide was excellent and interesting. The schedule was accurate and well organised including the ferry over to Jordan.

Hello, Anne.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a 5-star review.
We are glad to know that you had an excellent trip. Definitely, Petra is worth seeing.
We hope to see you again in Egypt for a new adventures!
durshna_g, Feb 2024
The positives. You have to see petra at least once. Breath taking wonder.
The negative
24hrs to 25hr excersion from hotel pick up to drop off . Only 4 hrs tops in petra.
1. Even though they say pick up 1am from hotel. You willl wait on the ckuach at least 1hrs b4 starting the trip. (Picking all guests from hotels).
2. Then journey to port for ferry. Ferry will leave 8am. Once you get to jordan . Clocks go.forward 1hr . You lose 1 hr.
3. You will get to.petra about 12.30pm. Then guide will walk through down to the wonder . We had a good guide (ali - elderly dude). Once at the end near the amphitheatre. You have 1.5hr to explore and get back to coach at 4pm. THEN you will have lunch. .
Then do everything in reserve to get back to sharm. A massive journey. Would reccomend seeing petra if you acutely holiday in jordan.
There was 2 guides on our coach . One that spoke english and russian . And ali that spoke english.
Ali was not with us all the way. However the other guide that spoke on the coach ONLY catered for the russians . Spoke 15min in russian then 1min in engish. Half the coach was english speaking nationals
Near the the end of the coach trip i jordan . Only russian was spoken . Obviously for tips. I saw alot of hand shakes but no handing of monies. Next time include all your guests in your trip.
PedroJose_J, Dec 2023
The English guy was so slow we were not given time to visit all parts of Petra. A real pity because I believe with a better structure it could be done. Worst English guy ever!!!!
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Hello, Pedro Jose.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate your honest feedback.
We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your guide Ziad, while the other group members left nice comment about him (posted above). We will collect more reviews about that day to clarify the situation.
We strive to perform the best route in our 1-day tour to Petra according to time limits related to ferry boat strict schedule. Hope you could use a local service - golf car - to visit as much Petra attractions as possible. And, for sure, to see all Petra you need at least 3 days.
We're thankful for your feedback and will take action to improve. Hope to have the chance to see you again in Egypt.
Selina_A, Sep 2023
I will start with the good, Petra from Sharm was well worth the trip - It is truly stunning, and the tour guides were fabulous, the knowledge and enthusiasm was amazing and really made the day.
Travelling for 24 hours flew by, as there was so much to see even during the drive. Lunch was fab, and there were enough toilet and drink stops (remember to bring your own money for these) Everything was so well planned, and ran to time. You are well taken care of throughout the whole journey from Sharm through to Petra and back, especially if you are a solo traveller.
Watch our for the 'Bedouin Boys' at Petra, if you want to get that special up high shot of the Treasury they will extort you in any currency to take a picture on the rocks. And will become quite rude and taunting to you, which makes you feel uncomfortable. Otherwise the ground team at Petra are very helpful!
Where this trip was let down, was the very rude phone call I received at 1:55am from the Sharm bus guide, telling me I had to come to reception now, I was holding up a whole bus. This was a shock to me as the confirmation message of pick-up time from the tour operator stated I would be collected at 2:50am which I was prepared for. I asked for 15 mins to do essentials, was told I had to get there quicker, of which I did so as not to miss the trip - No apology to me for the provided pick-up time being incorrect, I showed the confirmaton message from the operator, and no follow-up from the tour operator offering an apology either.
This was not a good start to this trip, and really left me quite discombobulated and with concern of how the rest of the day would unfold.
Heesu_Y, Mar 2023
It was great experience for me.
Actually, I was really worried before the tour, but it was pretty good when I started the tour, and the moment I saw Petra with my own eyes was fantastic, and the English guide was really kind and explained well. I went to the Kunapa restaurant he introduced me to, and it was the best Kunapa in the world🤤🤤🤤🤤 so I hope you guys try it😆😆
Response from Host, Mar 2023

We hope to see you again. Have a nice day ahead!

Amazing opportunity to visit Petra from Egypt, which was stunning.
Very long journey from Sharm El Sheik to Petra. Jordanian side of things very well organised with an engaging and amusing guide and comfort breaks built into the journey. Guide also provided a detailed background to Petra when we arrived.
Egyptian travel side of things was a little more curt. When we were picked up our driver shouted at us for not meeting him outside the hotel and making them late when the tour operator had told us to meet them in the hotel reception. Which wasn’t the best start or customer service. However, the visit to Petra made the lengthy journey and brusk Egyptian service still worth it. Visit if you have the opportunity, was a great introduction to Jordan.

We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding in pick up location. The bus and the guide always wait outside the main hotel gates or outside reception in case your hotel has no gates. Sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused you.
Thanks again, and we hope to make your next visit just as positive. Have an amazing day!
