Wonderful walk from SaPa city center to the villages. Sadly it was raining on the day we did the tour but our guide made the most of it. We enjoyed trekking through the paddy fields and spending time with the villages.

The trekking route itself was beautiful despite the bad weather conditions, but the way this tour was organized made the experience extremely difficult and, in my opinion, even unsafe. The tour description said it would take place in all weather, and I expected that standard trekking shoes and rain gear would be sufficient. In reality, the trail — especially at the beginning — had turned into deep mud and was extremely slippery and dangerous. Even proper hiking boots would not have been enough for these conditions, and my shoes ended up completely soaked and ruined.
The guide wore rubber boots, so the conditions were clearly known in advance. I wish this had been communicated beforehand so I could have made an informed decision. Under such weather conditions, I would expect much more responsibility and honesty from the tour operator. I understand that Sapa is a touristy area and that selling is part of the local economy — that’s absolutely fine. But the way it happened during this tour was unacceptable.
When I struggled on the slippery path, an older local woman repeatedly helped me avoid falls, which I appreciated at first. However, during the breaks she tried to sell me handmade items, and given the situation, it felt manipulative. I felt placed in a situation where I was expected to buy something out of gratitude — something I cannot accept.
Overall, this experience left me with the strong impression that selling was prioritized over safety and guest care. I did not feel comfortable at any point. I cannot recommend this tour under these weather conditions, and my rating reflects that clearly.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. I am truly sorry that your experience did not meet expectations, especially given the challenging weather conditions on the day of your trek.
Regarding the muddy and slippery path, we fully understand how difficult it must have been. In Sapa, heavy rain can quickly turn certain routes into deep mud even within a few hours, and our guide did his best to support you throughout. We apologize that the conditions were not clearly communicated beforehand — we will improve this so guests can make better-informed decisions and prepare appropriate footwear for the season.
About the interaction with the local women: this situation is unfortunately outside of our ability to control. They live in the villages along the route and often follow trekkers, hoping to earn income from selling handmade items. Our guide did try to ask them not to approach or pressure guests, but this is not always successful. Still, we sincerely apologize that this made you uncomfortable — your feeling is completely valid.
Safety and guest comfort are always our priorities. We will review your comments carefully with our team to ensure clearer communication and a better experience for future guests.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We truly appreciate it and hope for the opportunity to serve you better in the future.

It was raining heavily, everything was covered in fog, but ZiZi did everything she could to make sure I could see the villages.

A really great day, we got picked up by foot from our accomodation as it was so close to the start of the walk which was perfect! Lin was our guide and she was amazing, giving us in depth explanations of the different tribes and how they live, the process of how rice is made and showing us first hand through the rice fields. We had a lovely lunch in one of the local villages and even got to grind some corn and try the corn wine also known as happy water. A must do if you’re looking for a one day hike to see the culture behind sapa and its true beauty!

This hike is not a walk in the park!! You need to be fit and be ready to get potentially muddy and wet!
With that bring said I loved how raw and beautiful Sapa is! We loved trekking through the rain snd seeing the natural beauty of this land

Very beautiful, guide was helpful and the lunch they provided was delicious. It was a very memorable tour, I ended up being the only person on the tour so it almost felt like A private tour.

We are in a family trip including kids and people over 70. Hired this tour for our group and Su, the guide was punctual to pick us in our hotel . The first part was very slippery and we have an unfortunate accident where my father in law slipped in the mud and fell hurting his knee . As he could not move , Su called some people from one of the villages and came to help us carry him in a hand made hammock to get to a road where a taxi was arranged to pick us up. Part of the group finished the hike , looking at the amazing views of the field terraces. Once we went to hospital and he was feeling better , i decided to do the trekking on my own as I have missed it. We wrote to the agency directly (Saigonese trekking house) to ask if I could book a private tour for myself with the same guide and how could I pay. The agency replied in no time saying that they have heard about the incident and they offered me a private tour for the following day at no cost. They had no obligation and I was willing to pay as nothing that happened the previous day was their fault. It really touched my heart. I went with Su again early in the morning and I enjoyed half of the hike alone in the mountain. I had a very pleasant chat with Su about culture of the villages, education and history. I also could not recommend enough having Su as a guide . Thanks Su and Saigonese trekking house.

I loved the trek. It gave breathtaking views of sapa and all the surrounding villages. You need to be relatively in shape to do it (I am and I felt in the rice fields haha). My two guides were black Hmong and they were hilarious and very nice. The only part I didn’t like is the restaurant -which is definitely for you to buy some things to the local. It would be ok if they just let us time to shop in the villages, but instead you are going to eat and be surrounded by little girls begging you to buy them something. I had about 10 little girls coming back to my table about 6 times each. It is quite something. I loved the rest of the trek.

Our tour guide was excellent in his knowledge throughout the tour. We really enjoyed the views and information on the rice fields of Sa Pa as well as the villages. Very fascinating

We had a very nice day! Our guide Achert has super guided us and managed to answer all our questions, really an added value! The only downside is that Sapa is becoming very touristy, and you often walk with a number of groups behind each other on the path. The lunch was really great!!!

Response from Host, Jan 2025
Tak for din feedback!
