An absolutely great day with our guide, Gabriela. Our full-day private tour of the caves, Cueva el Castillo, Cueva las Monedas and Altamira, with side excursions to Puente Viesgo and Santillana Del Mar, was fantastic. As a local, Gabriela has extensive knowledge of the area and the history of the caves. In fact, her knowledge of the caves equalled or even surpassed that of the official guides. Gabriela speaks both Spanish and English so she made history come alive for both my wife (who is Spanish and English speaking) and I (who am English speaking). It was a special privilege to have Gabriela narrate the history of the Altamira cave because when there, the other visitors were only doing self-guided tours.
We’re hoping to return to Santander to do additional excursions with Gabriela.
Notes:
Book your trip very early because the admissions to Cuevas Castillo and Las Monedas are very limited.
You have to be in good physical condition to make the trek to, and through, these two caves.
The original Altamira cave is closed to tourists because of their negative impact on the cave and its paintings. This tour is of an exact recreation of the caves. There is easy access on foot or for those with disabilities.

Jairo provided an amazing day of touring the caves! Our private tour of 3 people allowed us to absorb his knowledgeable as we walked in and around the caves. We appreciated that we were able to be picked up directly at the Santander airport to begin our day of exploring and dropped off at our hotel when our day ended. We look forward to bringing our friends back to this area for future tours with Jairo.

Cave of El Castillo and Cueva Las Monedas were totally different from each other - and totally awesome. As the local guide related stories, history, and geology in Spanish, Hannah, quietly translated. Next we drove to Santillana del Mar and spent time in the beautiful old village before visiting the Museo de Altamira. I would highly recommend this tour and Hannah as your guide.

We had an amazing guide that managed to beautifully include in our schedule the entire tour, with a lot of history and explanations.
The greenery of Cantabria mixed with sea and mountains, the precious caves with very ancient amazing paintings and geological stone formations, the beautiful old towns of Puente Viesgo and Santilliana del Mar made the trip unforgettable.
Entire region is full of history, but also offers the best that nature can offer with a great melange of sea and mountains.

Gabriela was a fabulous guide! She was prompt, super knowledgeable, friendly, and her English was excellent. These caves are absolutely incredible, and Santillana del Mar is such a cute town. I wholly recommend this tour!
