Amongst the dozens of surf lesson options available, Riding the Wave of Wellness and their "Guided Surf Therapy" experience really stood out from the crowd.
It was easy to find the meetup spot in Tamarindo, where Sherri promptly greeted me. The session began with a discussion of my goals & intents, along with a brief emotional check in. We then plopped ourselves on the sand for guided meditation and breathing exercises. Sherri's friendly, reassuring guidance allowed me to really open up and let go of bound up tension, and also get amped up to hit the waves!
The session was handed over at that point to Vero for surf theory. Vero's infectious positivity was on display right from the jump. She took the time to make sure I understood the parts of the surfboard, the basics of body positioning, and the process of catching a wave. When it came time to make my first attempt, Vero was there the whole time, providing some helpful on the fly suggestions and lots of cheerleading. It only took a few times to start to get the hang of things and catch my first real wave! It was great to spend time in-between sets talking with Vero. We eventually drifted into a therapeutic conversastion , where her open heart and skillful talk therapy skills allowed me to explore my inner space.
Set against the backdrop of beautiful Tamarindo beach, the good vibrations that came from the session resonated throughout the entire rest of my day. If the idea of surf therapy intrigues you like it did for me, do yourself a favor and book a session with Riding The Waves of Wellness.
