Our driver, Oscar, and Robert were all great guides. They were friendly, respectful, and did a good job throughout the excursion.
The horseback ride itself was enjoyable, but about halfway through we were taken to a small setup on the beach where local vendors were selling souvenirs. We ended up spending around 40 minutes there while being encouraged to shop. That was pretty disappointing, as I would have much rather spent that time riding. An extra 25–30 minutes on horseback would have made the experience much better.
I noticed several other tour groups stopping there as well, so it seems this may be a standard part of many excursions. Knowing that beforehand, I probably would have chosen the Country World Adventure Park instead. It's a little more expensive, but it's an actual adventure park that offers horseback riding, ziplining, and dune buggies without interrupting the experience for a shopping stop.

Our driver was 30 minutes late. From the beginning, we thought they were both nice. They said they would take us shopping after the tour in which we said we only wanted to do the horse back riding because we had a dinner reservation back at our resort. The horses were great, and well trained. Our guide was a nice man, who didn’t say much to us but we figured he didn’t speak much English. He brought us to a beach which had many stray dogs and someone selling drinks. We asked for two waters and pet the dogs. People were trying to sell us trinkets but we politely said no. One of the puppies kept biting my shirt and feet trying to play. The bites hurt and she wouldn’t stop, ending up breaking skin on my hand. Our horse guide did not intervene and just watched. A guide from another tour came to intervene. All the dogs were so cute I loved them. When we left he said we needed to pay for our waters. Which we did but he didn’t tell us that initially. On the way back, he was quiet and was riding his horse while looking at videos on his phone. When we got back to our driver, our driver insisted we go to a gift shop. He said he would drop us off at the building we were staying in at our resort. I bought a couple cigars I knew were fake so I was able to talk down the price. But then they kept trying to take us to other stores. I said firmly we had to return because we needed to get ready for dinner. His demeanor changed and he was not very friendly anymore. We drove back in silence and he dropped us off at the front lobby instead of our building like he said. Didn’t really help us out of the vehicle like before. It was a nice horseback ride, loved the horses. Loved the dogs, even the puppy that kept biting me. But we both felt very pressured to buy more and when we booked we did not think that they would try to make us do more. It would’ve been nice just to horseback ride and be taken back to our resort. This felt very awkward at times when we just wanted to enjoy the ride

We would, however, like to clarify a few points for future travelers.
Our driver was delayed due to unexpected traffic conditions, and we sincerely apologize for that inconvenience. As for the optional shopping stop, it was offered as a courtesy, not as a required part of the excursion. When you let us know you preferred to return to your resort, we respected your decision and ended the tour. At no point were you required to make any purchases.
Regarding the beach stop, drinks sold there are offered by independent local vendors and are not included in the excursion price. Guests are free to purchase refreshments if they wish.
We are also sorry to hear about your interaction with one of the stray puppies. These animals are not part of our tour, and while they are common on public beaches, we always encourage guests to avoid interacting with stray animals for their own safety.
Our goal is always to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience, and we’re sorry if you felt uncomfortable at any point. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working with our team to ensure every guest has the best possible experience.

Our guide hit a dog for no reason right in front of me! I am deeply concerned about how they treat animals. Our guide pressured us to make a 5 stars review in front of him so keep that in mind when reading the other reviews. They made us feel bad about not buying the photos they took of us. There are no helmets provided. It lets you choose a french speaking guide when making the reservation but when we got there one guide only spoke Spanish and the other one english. The spanish only guide did not seem in a great mood. The scenery was very beautiful. We got to ride the horses in the water which was quite enjoyable. They let us go fast on the horses and that was fun.

However, we’re sorry that one moment during the tour caused concern. We’d like to clarify that the guide did not strike the dog out of aggression. In this area there are stray dogs that occasionally approach the horses and guests. The guide’s intention was simply to move the dog away to prevent a possible incident, as the safety of both our guests and the animals is always our priority.
We also want to clarify that we never require guests to leave a 5-star review. If our guide encouraged you to share your experience, it was only as an invitation, never as an obligation. Likewise, our professional photo service is completely optional, and guests are always free to decline without any pressure.
Regarding helmets, local horseback riding regulations and the nature of this excursion differ from those in some countries. Our experienced guides accompany guests throughout the ride to ensure a safe experience.

Unfortunately this horse riding excursion wasn’t anything I had imagined it would be. As a previous owner of many horses , the horses we rode were very under fed and looked very tired. During the ride my horse slipped on the huge rocks many times to the beach.. my husband and friends were very disappointed the entire experience.

Workers are nice. The 9 horses in our group were saddled and Standing under 1 tree when we got there. No water in site. We got on 6 and then 3 workers 1 in front, 1 in back and a guy with a camera. Didn't look like a jungle more like average woods. 1 riders horse moaned and groaned the whole ride both ways and tripped a lot. When we got to the beach, we got off the horses and went to sit at a picnic table. We were asked if we wanted a drink. Beer, pina colada or water. Then came back and said no alcohol. After receiving our drinks and getting in the water for a few minutes, beach water was pretty gross with things in it and smelled. Probably a lot of things off the horses, doubt they ever had a bath. Backbones were pertruding from withers to butt. No hind ends, mostly sunken in. They stated they do not hay or grain the horses when asked. The horses fend for themselves eating whatever they can find in the woods. They said they eat bananas, guava and mangos from the trees. Which are very small, smaller than an orange if you see any. The water ride was with 2 horses bareback lead by a worker in the water about 25 feet each way. Beware of the backbone it will be uncomfortable for you and the horse. These 2 horses had to give 6 people a short ride. Then get tacked up again to ride back to the tree where we started. A lot of poor terrain due to the ATVs using the same road. Rocks, branches and puddles along the way. The photographer charged $40 for 34 pictures between the 2 of us on the horses which were sent to our email. Would i recommend this excursion. NO. I can't believe Viator endorses something like this. These poor horses, day after day, numerous times a day are living in hell. Someday one or more are going to drop to the ground with a rider on them, because, they are being starved and/or dehydrated from no water and extreme heat. This will probably be taken down because I am speaking the truth.

The route includes rural trails through wooded areas, which can include uneven terrain, rocks, puddles, and other natural conditions — this is part of the authentic experience.
The horses are handled by experienced local guides who accompany guests throughout the ride to ensure safety and proper control. We strongly disagree with the suggestion that the horses are mistreated or intentionally neglected. The horses used for tours are part of the local community and are monitored by their owners, who have years of experience caring for and working with them.
We also want to clarify that the beach stop and any optional services such as photos or drinks are handled separately and are not mandatory.
We understand that horseback riding in a rural area may not match everyone’s expectations, but many of our guests enjoy this experience because it offers a chance to connect with nature, local life, and the Dominican countryside.

Ramon tours was amazing. Oscar and his co pilot were amazing. The horseback riding adventure was fun until the people in charge of the horse made my fiance uncomfortable. They would whip her house so they can get a satisfaction watching her back side bounce which I felt it was very unprofessional. They need to learn to respect people when we tell them to stop the first time but kept doing it.

Friendly people. They will take photos for extra cost.
We spent the most time on a dirt road. That is fine but that road was used by ATVs, a tractor came by as well. Just a lot of exhaust fumes.
Short time ridding on the beach. There was a rest stop of about 20-30mins. Beach had a lot of garbage but I guess most beaches have that now.

My husband and myself really enjoyed this excursion, they were incredibly friendly and helpful, Oscar, Liam and another gentleman whos name I cant recall sadly, were great company and extremely competent. We felt very safe and well taken care of, highly recommend! There are locals offering sales and hair braiding at the beach but theyre very friendly and not aggressively pushy, just there trying to make a living. Beautiful beach and the trail through the woods was very clear to navigate. I was a first time rider and despite how inexperienced i was, they were kind and patient!

Horseback riding itself was good, and the people were genuinely great — friendly, patient, and helpful, but the route really needs attention. The trail is littered with trash and extremely bumpy, with broken-up dirt roads and scattered rocks. Once you reach the beach, the view is beautiful, but the area where the horses stop is also trash-ridden, which takes away from the experience.

The excursion was seamless. They picked us up from the cruise port, brought us to our horses, and then took us back to port. The horses were gentle and the guides were great! I would recommend pants so the stirrups don’t rub and bring some money for a snack at the beach. The trail was mostly shaded then ends up at a beach. I would highly recommend! The price was very affordable to boot!

From pickup at the port to the end of the tour, everything was smooth and well-organized. The staff was friendly and professional, and the horses were calm and well cared for.
Although it was booked as a small group, it ended up being just the two of us, which made it feel like a private tour. The beach ride was beautiful and relaxing, and the guides were attentive, making sure we felt safe and comfortable throughout.

The tour wasn’t very scenic until you got on the beach, but that was literally a 10 minute thing. The rest of the tour was all in muddy, nasty jungle very dirty and then they stick you on a dirty beach with nothing to do make you sit there while the vendors try and sell you stuff or take pictures for money. It was uncomfortable. We didn’t care for it, and the horses were not taken care of very well.

This horseback riding tour takes place through natural jungle trails and a beach environment, not paved or developed areas. Due to recent rainfall, the terrain can become muddy — this is a normal and expected condition in tropical outdoor adventures and is part of the authentic experience.
Regarding the beach stop, this is a short break to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and take photos. Local vendors are independent and present in most public beaches across the Dominican Republic. Guests are always free to engage or simply relax without any obligation.
As for the horses, their care and wellbeing are very important to us. They are regularly monitored, properly fed, and handled by experienced staff to ensure both safety and comfort.
While we understand that this type of nature-based experience may not be for everyone, many of our guests specifically choose it to enjoy the raw and authentic side of Puerto Plata.

The guides are great, theyre not pushy about extra tips/charges and even gave us tips on people to watch out for. The horses are allowed to actually run or go but they are so well behaved at the same time.

Tour company (Raymon Tours) included pick-up and drop-off just outside cruise ship ports security gate. Travel to where the horses are waiting is about 20 minutes away. Ride takes place along a dirt road through a jungle landscape which opens to a beach where the ride continues on for a while. You take a break at a little spot that has a very rustic bathroom, some vendors with trinkets for sale and drinks. After the break riders are given the opportunity to get on one of the horses in the water (bareback) and get led around by the guide or his assistant. The water is deep enough to get you wet up to your waist so either have a swimsuit to change into or wear quick dry clothing if you choose to ride in the water. After the horseback ride in the water you ride back down the beach then back down the dirt road to the starting point. Be aware that you may encounter swarms of aggressive mosquitoes (like I did) so bug spray or clothing that completely covers your arms and legs is recommended.

It was just the 4 of us in our group that we booked, and everything was great. They were at our hotel early and we had 2 guides plus the photographer, Oscar, with us. Oscar was wonderful, as was the main guide. Felix - both of whom spoke English. We are not experienced riders, and we were very comfortable. I would do it again!!

Easy pick up outside the Cruise ship terminal. We were early and a marked, well kept van was ready for us at the arranged time. We, just the two of us, and the driver, left the pick up area, and the driver received a call, and asked us if we ordered a photographer, which we said no. The driver then turned the van around, in heavy traffic, to go back to the pick up area to get the photographer, which we never asked for. The photographer said he was a little late, but promised to take great photos for us. More sitting in traffic. We arrived to an empty driveway and waited in the air-conditioned van for ~10 minutes for the horses.
We, my spouse and I, are both experienced riders, and the horses and tack ( saddles, bridles, and reigns ) were not in good shape. My spouse's Horse had a twisted headstall ( bridle) When we pointed it out they said it was ok. The saddles were pretty sad looking and the pads were well worn frayed memory foam. The horses were thin, but their feet looked well kept, with my horse having 3 shoes.
We, my spouse and I, the horse guide, and the photographer took off riding in the woods. The photographer was chattty and friendly and took lots of photos of us riding.
We ran a bit on the horses with no issues, but the guides' saddle lost a stirrup - like it completely came off the saddle- during the ride.
We arrived by horseback to the secluded beach, where the photographer insisted we sit at a table with him.
Various sellers came hawking wares, but with a solid "no thank you" they left us alone. A guy with a sad looking macaw came by and wanted $10 for a photo with the bird, which we declined. No offer of water or anything was provided, we were offered the opportunity to buy water or soda from the vendors at the secluded beach.
I asked if we'd be riding the horses in the water ( as the photos in the Viator ad show) and the photographer told us to check with our guide.
The photographer then wanted to plug an adapter into my phone , and when I questioned him about how much for the photos, he said ' let me upload them to your phone first' .
He showed us the photos on his phone, and said he was giving us a good rate of $45 for the package for all our photos.
He asked again to plug the adapter into my phone, and I said 'no way are you plugging anything anything into my phone.'
His attitude changed after we turned down buying the photos ( Remember, we didn't ask or book the photographer , and he was late and made the driver turn around to go get him)
He rarely spoke any English to us after we turned down buying the photos on the beach. We said we were ready to return, and we got back on the horses, rode back the way we came,and we returned to the cruise ship terminal with plenty of time to catch the boat. The Viator excursion says 3 hours, but we were returned after only 2 hours. I was really looking forward to riding the horses in the water, which we were never given the chance.
Also, the music in the van was both English and Spanish, and one song was particularly vulgar. Not an overall great experience, but we did run on the beach, and the beach is lovely.

I want to clarify that the horseback riding activity is operated by an independent provider, not directly by our company. We coordinate the transportation and ensure you get to the ranch safely and on time, but once guests arrive, the ranch manages the horses, equipment, guides, and any photography services. Unfortunately, some aspects—such as the condition of the tack, the actions of the photographer, or the timing of the ride—are not within our control. That being said, your experience is absolutely not what we want for any of our guests.

We had a really great experience with this excursion! We got picked up on time and it was just a short drive from our resort, but we got to see beautiful new views of the island. The horses were calm and we felt very safe and comfortable riding them, and our guide/paparazzi Oscar was very knowledgeable and helpful the entire time. We came out of there with beautiful pictures and even more beautiful memories.

As an experienced riders, we had no trouble and we enjoyed it, but people in the group with us who had no horseback riding experience. They quit halfway through and didn't finish. No one on the staff spoke English until the beachside cabana break and they had difficulty getting instructions on how to ride.. We did pass a large group from a ship sanctioned excursion. We were definitely having more fun.. tour guide to allowed us to Gallup out down the surf once the new people were no longer with us. If they had been along, it wouldn't have happened. They will try to sell you jewelryon the break, but they were very polite and accepted no without a hassle. If you know how to ride, this is a great bargain and you'll have fun. If you don't, I would inquire ahead to be sure you have an English speaking guide. You'll have to leave the cruise terminal compound to find them amongst the large group of taxi drivers waiting on the street but they had signs..

Me and my wife went on this horseback ride while cruising to Puerto Plata D.R. The instructions from Ramon’s tours was excellent. Just make sure you pass thru all the tour operators area outside of Taino Bay cruise terminal and there you will see your tour guides holding a Ramon tours/group sign. We had to wait about 30-45 minutes for another couple that had gotten lost and boy was it hot and humid and the guys from Ramons took us to an air conditioned van and we were able to cool off while waiting. We then were driven to the horseback riding area and were fitted with an appropriate horse for our skill. We didn’t have to wear helmets so that was awesome. We were taken through a ride through the Forest area and then on to the beach/ocean. They take almost all photos and video. Oscar is great at that and has very reasonable prices at the end. You ride to a secluded beach area where you can get authentic pina coladas and there are beach vendors there. Don’t be afraid to haggle with the vendors or just politely tell them no if you don’t want any braids or jewelry. We did drink some very tasty pina coladas and had pictures taken with a squirrel monkey which cost 10 dollars but it was so fun! You spend about 45 mins at this beautiful beach where you unwind and then its back on the Horses and ride back to the ranch area. There was 4 of us riding and about 4-5 guides and they were so helpful and kind. Would recommend this tour to all. Was so much cheaper than doing it thru the cruise line.

All I’m all we had a blast & felt safe. Bring cash for tips. They took us to a private beach with less tourism, food, drinks, hair braiders, souvenir, there was puppy’s and monkeys

Look past the number of reviews, this is an excellent tour worthy of 5 stars. 3-4 tour guides with our small group. Well trained horses. New clean transport to and from the port.
