Having Jose as our tour operator was an outstanding experience. He showed us Puerto Plata’s most iconic places and then took us to an incredible restaurant on the beach where we were treated like royals and my granddaughter enjoyed the crystal blue water .

Elian was a FANTASTIC tour guide! We were on a cruise and this private tour was the best way to spend the day with a local in the Dominican Republic. We were able to adjust the schedule/itinerary according to our groups interests and spend the perfect amount of time at each stop. He was early picking us up from the port and spent the entire day with us, getting us back to the ship at the time we requested. I even misplaced my drivers licence and was in quite a panic, Elian drove back to each of the stops we had gone to earlier in the day to look for it (all while I still got to have beach time with my family!). We found my licence in one of my shopping bags, but Elian was so gracious and accommodating all the same. I would 1000% recommend this tour to anyone visiting the island, but especially those on a cruise with a tight timeline. Of all our stops this week, the DR was our favorite and I know this tour and Elian played a huge role in that.

Incredible experience with our provider: E&J driver Jesus Christ as outstanding! I would recommend this to anyone that wants to see the island and spend the day only doing the things that they want to do! Private beach was great, umbrella was great, pink alley was great, food was great!

We had a nice tour and ended at beach which had a lot of restaurants and shops on water. We loved our tour guide Eddie it was a private tour he knew the area well loved all the stops except the stop at gem museum it was interesting but it was also a jewelry store and gifts. We didn’t like how at the gem place another guy showed us around not our tour guy Eddie this guy was part of the store he was pushy trying to sell us jewelry then at end he said he basically asked for a tip and felt pressure to tip him. The Rum factory and umbrella street also beautiful old church ,was great and Eddie took us to top of view hill very nice. Every place you go they are wanting you to buy something. I understand the locals need make money but it gets annoying. I would take this tour again and loved our tour guide

Our tour guide Jahaziel was great. The weather was rainy, but we still had a great time. He took us to the places we wanted to go. He had great information and answered all our questions. He also took some great photos for us.

We had a wonderful experience. Melvin was our guide. He was knowledgeable and really catered the tour to our interests. We enjoyed the rum factory tour and a bit of walking through the city. Great seafood lunch of fresh caught red snapper. One thing I wish I had known is that merchants pay a 20% processing fee for credit card transactions. They prefer cash and give better prices. Really appreciated seeing the city as opposed to staying in a resort.

Was not as advertised. The first stop on the itinerary says a rum tour with admission included, with a rum tasting. On the way there the driver told us it’s actually $8USD per person. Next stop was supposed to be Mount Isabel de Torres, but again we’re told this was an additional $50 USD because the cable car no longer works to take people up the mountain, so the only option is to drive, and this wasn’t new news, it’s been out of service for 2+ years, so this should be removed from the website/itinerary. The mountain was what we were looking forward to most about this tour, so this was beyond disappointing. We expected our guide to be more knowledgeable about landmarks and things we were seeing along the way, but at each stop he just dropped us off with another tour guide or we had to do a self guided tour. Also, the cigar factory and chocolate factory were more shops and less factories. We didn’t see the production of anything and weren’t given a tour, the entire thing was just a shop where we could buy items. On the way back, the driver tried to sell us on another tour for tomorrow, we declined, as we didn’t have a good experience with this one. As a result of this, we had requested a partial refund, something that will take 7 days before we hear anything back from the tour company.

Thanks for sharing you thoughts about the tour, here some things to clarify:
According to the tour description, the stop at Mount Isabel de Torres is intended as a viewpoint to enjoy the scenery of the city and the mountain. The ride to the top, where the Christ statue is located, is outside the scope of the city tour. Going there will take almost an hour, doing this activity will take at least 3 hours of your time in the city.
After speaking directly with the driver, I was informed that you did not
visit the rum factory during the tour. In addition, when the rum factory
visit takes place, tickets must be purchased directly by the driver and the
cost is $16, not $8.

Our guide, Jesus Castro, was fantastic! He was waiting for us at the gate to the cruise port and took us to so many great places in Puerto Plata. His van was clean and cool and he brought a cooler with chilled water and coke and even large umbrellas since it was a drizzly day. The tour was totally customized to places we wanted to go. He offered suggestions and we chose to see most of them. He brought us to the Macroix rum factory, the cigar factory where we watched them hand roll cigars. We also visited the rose street, umbrella street, the town center and cathedral, the highest view point on the island, the amber museum and a jeweler who had beautiful Larimar jewelry. He offered to take us to the old fort but we decided to head back to our ship at that point. At each place, Jesus had lined up guides to take us through each stop. He was very organized and did an amazing job! Definitely book a tour with him and you will not be disappointed!

Jesus Castro gave us a private tour of the city of Puerto Plata.. The car was clean and air conditioned. The driver was more than willing to ammend the itinerary so that we could prioritize the places most important to us. He suggested a great restaurant for lunch and made sure that our needs were met at every stop. He had an umbrella for us when it rained and was very cognizant of time so that we could return to the cruise port in time to board our ship. I highly recommend this experience.

Jesus was our driver and he was amazing. What a nice and accommodating man. Unfortunately the tour includes visiting a lot of shops that are really trying hard to sell you something overpriced. We finally opted out of that part and went straight to the beach where he totally took care of us. The beach was beautiful. The food was great. I would have loved instead of the shops to learn a little bit more about the history of the Dominican Republic. If you're really into shopping for rum, cigars, and chocolates then this might be the right tour for you.

Our tour was not as advertised. Our driver asked if we’d like to see the countryside and proceeded to take us to an out of the way tourist trap and handed us over to another man while he sat at a bar on his phone and ate snacks. Another man toured us around a muddy derelict farm and showed us his plants and chickens and sad pets. He showed us the cabins the other folks lived in and tramped us through mud and dirt. We had planned on a city tour not a mud trek, we were wearing inappropriate footwear. The ‘tour’ ended with a VERY hard sell in their shop. We felt trapped, we felt pressured. They said ‘buy something to help our people’. We felt like we weren’t going to be allowed to leave until we made a purchase. When we finally got free of the sales team the driver was pumping up a flat tire. This was panic inducing for foreign travelers who had no idea where we were. The driver was then preoccupied with the flat and didn’t speak to us until we arrived at the amber ‘museum’… another hard sell place. The ‘tour guide’ told us she doesn’t get paid unless we tip her, speed ran through the ‘museum’ and walked us into the shop to try to hard sell us the same jewelry and asked for her tip in cash. We had no more cash after the farm extortion. She was visibly disappointed. We were directed to sit and wait for our driver. He had gone to get the tire fixed, we waited a half an hour for him to return next to an open electrical panel while the lights flickered. The rest of the tour was a speed run through the streets with very little guide commentary. We didn’t feel like we could stop and take pictures because he was walking so far out in front of us. We got back into the van and drove around in near silence, with only a little chitchat if we initiated it. The last stop was the fort where he pulled us up in front of a stand where another man could BEG us to look at the same wares we’d been shown at all 3 stops now. It was uncomfortable, not fun, not relaxing. We walked the fort grounds on our own while our guide waited next to the van and tried to pump the tire enough to get us back to port. We booked a private tour so we wouldn’t be hassled or feel pressured to buy things. We booked a private tour to have fun and see the things the tour advertised. We booked a private tour to feel safe and looked after in a foreign country. The guide was a sweet kid, and apologized profusely but why would we keep being put into a van with a bad tire? Why would they not send a new vehicle? This was not a tour I would recommend. This was NOT worth the 150.00 we paid. We are extremely disappointed.

We are sorry to know that you couldn't have a tour as planned. But unfortunately there are a few things that are out of our hands.
We won't never want to have a problem with a tire, and we wish we had a sunny day for all of our clients. The driver ASKED YOU, if instead of going to the beach (it was raining a lot) he can show you the countryside and you agreed with that. The Amber Museum it's part of the tour but you can decide if you want to go or not. When we have days raining too much the only choices we have is to go to indoor places (amber Museum, chocolate Factory, rum Factories...)
Your driver put an effort to help you, he immediately tried to solve the problem... but again, we apologize for this inconvenience!

We were picked up right outside the port gate. Our tour guide, Joseph Alvarez, was waiting for us. The van was nice and clean with great A/C. Joseph gave us so much great information and took us to all the sites we wanted to see (the Amber Museum, Chocolate shop with tastings, Umbrella Street, Pink Street, the Fort, the Plaza in the center of town with historic buildings, a beautiful old church, we stopped at a beach area for some pics, and we had a delicious lunch with an awesome view of Peurto Plata for a very reasonable price, we also stopped at a little village for some shopping and got to hold and get pics with a Macaw and monkey and pet a cute donkey). We had plenty of time at each stop. We opted not to go to the LA Playa beach because it was windy and cold. I highly recommend. We had a great personalized tour. Joseph is awesome!

Thank you Melvin! Make sure you know where to go when you get off the ship though. Despite some difficulties encountered to find our guide due to some misdirections received by workers in the port, we had a wonderful time with Melvin. He is a very attentive and pleasant guide who goes at your own pace. We definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in a private tour of Puerto Plata. Omg...I don't know where to begin, awesome tour with an even better tour guide!! KELVIN VENTURA! If you book this...REQUEST HIM! Kelvin made our experience so much better, he is such a ray of sunshine and everyone and I mean EVERYONE knows and loves him! Our 3-4 hour tour turned into 6 hours!!! He made us laugh and almost cry..we talked serious stuff too...he was a delight and I will definitely request him again when we return to the Dominican Republic! This was a great tour, our driver Yahaziel was awesome. We did a private tour , so he catered to our needs and preferences. He was very informative and he was a great “photographer “. Unfortunately we couldn’t go swimming at the beach because the water was a little rough. We had a nice lunch 🥙 n the beach .

Elian was an awesome tour guide. You could tell he has pride in his country. We saw several sites in the town which were very remarkable including the town square with the statues of prominent leaders in the island’s independence. The beach was lovely with nice chairs and umbrella included. It was nice to be able to customize the tour to our group’s interests. I would highly recommend this tour and especially Elian as your guide!!
