FYI - We offer free pick up locally in Playa Grande and Matapalo. Additional fee for pickup you will see on the exclusion section From Tamarindo (Playa Langosta) to Potrero (including Playa Flamingo, Brasilito, Playa Conchal and Huacas) round trip. We also pick up at Casa Chameleon, JW Marriott , all hotels and homes in Playa del Coco and Papagayo (including Riu, Mangroove, Hard Rock, Secrets, Four Seasons, Andaz and all others) for an extra charge. Transportation is paid directly at the beach. Pick up times vary with lesson times and minimum 2 people per lesson.

Amazing experience!! Tim and his team were so friendly, patient and helpful. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a true Costa Rican exhilarating experience! The break with cold water, fresh pineapple and banana bread was a perfect treat. Tim even provides rash guards which was extremely helpful as well. Thank you Tim and crew for an unforgettable day!

Tim and MJ provided transportation and from my hotel. The safety lesson on the beach was smart and useful. Group sizes were small enough to give time to catch my breath before getting another turn. Dago gave good instructions as did adjacent teachers. They were good with the kids in my group as well as with me. MJ and Tim took photos from the shoreline. We had fresh pineapple and delicious homemade banana bread MJ makes herself during our break and Dago climbed a coconut tree and tore them open with his bare hands for the group to try before we returned to the ocean to practice again. I will sleep great tonight and be a little sore tomorrow.

Best Beginner Surf Experience

MJ and JoEl were a pleasure to meet and work with. We are a family of 4 with a daughter (19) and a son (14). We live near the gulf in FL and are accustomed to gulf-sized waves. We were somewhat intimidated by the size of the waves upon arrival, but the instructors knew just where to go. Everyone made it up multiple times and had a blast. I can’t recommend highly enough!

We had an amazing time with mojo surf. Tim was a personable and fun host with local knowledge. His wife’s banana bread is sublime and the fresh pineapple and cold water were very appreciated as a break. Learning is hard work but it was so rewarding. Everyone from every level in our class was able to catch some waves and stand up! My wife and I were with JP as an instructor and he was phenomenal. We never had to wait long at all for our next turn, so we got a ton of opportunity to try and learn. This lesson was more than worth it!

We are SO happy we chose Mojo for our surfing session because it included so much more! Tim picked us up from our place and drove us to a secluded, secret surf spot on Playa Grande while giving us awesome info about the area and chatting with us like an old friend. We walked a few minutes through a cool forest path that opened to a gorgeous spot with the surfboards ready to go and our WONDERFUL instructor, JoEl waiting for us. He was the absolute best instructor ever. Our 2 boys have taken lessons before, but JoEl taught us more in 5 minutes than others have taught us in 5 hours! His attention to detail, keen eye, and thoughtful way of teaching put us at ease and encouraged us to have tons of fun! We adored him. Tim took amazing photos that we were more than happy to purchase! He’d also cut up fresh, sweet pineapple as a snack that we all enjoyed. After the awesome session, Tim drove us back but not before introducing us to some mouth watering new foods and giving us a cool tour on our route. We loved every minute and would recommend Mojo Surf 100%!!!

I booked this lesson based on all the other reviews here. The reviews weren't wrong - JP was a super instructor and really looked after both myself and my 8 year old daughter. Tim was really encouraging and even got in the sea to help in between taking photos. The beach where the lessons take place is so quiet and a perfect place to learn without feeling intimidated by other surfers. The water and pineapple break was well earned and absolutely delicious. Our lesson started at 4 and was the perfect time, seeing the sun set whilst surfing is an experience not to be missed. I didn't want to get out of the sea!
