This was everything we wanted in a Petra tour and more! Ismail knew all of the tips and tricks to making the most out of our time there. We started early, per his suggestion, and that made a huge difference. He knows so much about Petra, its history, and it was also wonderful to be guided by someone who grew up in Wadi Rum and has grown up with Petra. Ismail has incredible know-how and brought us to the best spots to view famous Petra structures. He also took us to incredible views off the beaten path (specifically the cafe at the end of the world) that were some of our favorite memories of the trip. Ismail also has great relationships with a lot of the Bedouin merchants, cafe owners, etc. (which cannot be said for other guides) and this is a positive because you interact with them pretty consistently as you go along Petra. His relationships definitely enhanced our experience. This is a great Petra tour, we wouldn't have done it any other way. Thank you, Ismail for an experience we'll never forget!

I had an absolutely amazing 2-day private tour of Petra with Ismail! Right from the start, his positive energy and excitement made it clear that this was going to be a truly special experience. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the sights, providing detailed insights and fascinating stories that truly brought the ancient city to life. Seeing the Treasury for the first time was breathtaking, and Ismail made sure I had the best spots for photos while avoiding the crowds.
On the second day, Ismail took me through the lesser-known backdoor route to Petra, which made the experience feel even more exclusive. We hiked up to the Monastery and explored hidden trails that few tourists get to see. His expertise and passion for Petra’s history and landscape made the entire journey unforgettable. Where to begin, Ismael was an outstanding tour guide ! My wife and I have previously done private tours with guides in other cities (Istanbul and Athens), so we have some experience spending a day with a tour guide. Ismael was simply amazing the best. He catered the tour (6 hours) to our interests, was incredibly knowledgeable about Petra, and navigated us through the most amazing journey from the Treasury to the Monastery. Petra was amazingly empty during our time here and Ismael helped us take advantage of the lack of crowds. Beyond explaining the rich and mysterious history of Petra, he has old photos and videos to show how it has changed over time and how natural disasters affect it.
Before choosing Ismael I read his overwhelmingly positive reviews and the the odd negative ones (they are either not about him or about a negative experience a visitor had here… although I’m not sure
How one could not be blown away by Petra).
My wife and I had a great day with Ismael as our guide.

Ismail was the best! There were 3 in our group. My husband and I who are seniors and our young friend. We took the Premium Petra tour from the Visitor’s Center to the Monastery. . It took us 7 hrs because I had to take many breaks. Ismail was very patient and kind. I was even able to experience a mule/donkey ride most the way back! Which is rather unforgettable in itself! We learned a great deal of history about Petra, it’s people, and the ingenious way they built their city and trade. It’s not hard to see way this place is among the 7 Wonders of the World!
It was strenuous but so worth it. It will be one of our travel highlight!

We did the backway tour of Petra and ended up at the main entrance in under 6hrs with 2 kids in tow, and we couldn’t have done it without Ismael. Right from the get-go communication was super easy, sorting out details of our trip via whatsapp which Ismael was super prompt to respond to. He picked us up from our hotel and because we had our Jordan pass we were able to go straight to the shuttle stop that would take us to the back entrance. And then from there Ismael gave us the option to take a truck for extra 5JOD each that would shorten our trek so we could get to The Monastery on foot in 30mins instead of 2hrs which was a complete game changer. That walk was well paced despite lots of steps because we still had energy and Ismael navigated us well, stopping to let larger groups through so we could really enjoy the scenery and appreciate all the history. He was also super nice to the other visitors giving them advice or answering questions which he really didn’t have to do. After reaching the Monastery it was all downhill on our way to the Colonnaded Street and through to The Treasury which we really appreciated especially seeing folks headed the usual way (Treasury to Monastery) losing steam taking up those steps towards the end of their hike. I love too how Ismael ‘coached’ us into saying no to vendors when we told him we weren’t interested in buying anything. We made it to the Siq at the height of the afternoon sun but were well protected by the massive walls and stayed relatively cool on our way out. Again I can’t imagine hiking up to the Monastery area that time of day if we didn’t do the backway! At the conclusion of our tour Ismael drove us back to our hotel and it felt like saying goodbye to a friend. He is a phenomenal guide and such a caring human being. This was easily one of the best decisions we made on this trip and what a great way to fully appreciate the wonder that is PETRA!

Ismael is outstanding! I'm an Engineering - he's an Engineer. Let the Geek-Out question-and-answer sessions begin! It's amazing how much I learned that I wouldn't find from another tour guide. Ismael set a comfortable pace for our group of four and when one of us had a knee problem, he was settled in comfortably at a cafe while the rest of us took 3 donkeys up the next mountain. The whole day was handled professionally and it all went smoothly. Also, Ismael was excellent at communicating with us before/during our trip. I knew exactly when/when we were meeting, and what to expect on our trip, etc.
