Sanjay Colony tour

Heather_M, Mar 2026
Kimar was a fantastic tour guide; she was organized, informed us of the plan, and provided relevant important facts about the development and life in the colony. Highly recommend.

100% recommend, interesting tour

Yurong_F, Mar 2026
It was a great experience, very interesting tour to see the slums of Delhi. Lots of businesses are running and it was very interesting to see the recycled fabric market where ladies. that come daily to look for job, gets hired to sort through fabric strips by colours/sizes that are then resold. You also see the residential areas where kids are playing in a small courtyard, there is 1 school where boys & girls are split into mornings/afternoons, private tutoring classes & medical clinics. My guide, Tarun, was fantastic and pointed out many interesting things such as the public facilities built by the government as there are still many homes without washrooms or running water. The government will also bring trucks of water which people have to fill in large blue barrels to then store. The last stop of the tour is at at the office of reality tours/reality gives where you see the classrooms & classes that they organize, and kids coming and going. They also run other tours you can join and it's a great cause that you are supporting. Tarun was also very patient and helpful in guiding me back to the metro station and providing recommendations on next stops. 100% would recommend.

An absolutely must do trip, you can’t do this by yourself

Iain_H, Mar 2026
This is an absolute must do trip, this company runs a school and puts 80% of the profits back into their NGO organisation. The trip itself was incredible. We met Ajay at Rajiv Chowk and he took us to the slum which is where he grew up. We got to see how the jobs and industry works in the area and taken through the very narrow lanes through the slum learning all about it. Ajay was really informative and rightly proud of the work their organisation does, a very knowledgeable and friendly young man. We were a bit worried about this being a western „let’s look at the slum people“ type trip but booked because of the work they do and we should not have worried at all, it’s actually a really uplifting and friendly visit and not intrusive to the residents. Be prepared to fist bump some of the kids walking past, they are a really friendly lot! Do the trip it’s excellent, if you get Ajay even better!

It was so impressive tour for me. The guide brought me to many places in a slum district and all things are impressive.

Amazing insight

Candice_M, Jan 2025
Great insight to the slum community. Naresh was very informative and answered all of my 8 year old’s questions. Such a great experience and an eye opener to how a different part of the world lives. Highly recommend

Worth a visit

The tour was great and Dolly was super informative and astute. It was to the point and well timed giving an insight into what life was like currently and prior to basic services being introduced into the area. It is also completely safe so don't be put off by the word *slum*. I also liked the fact the tour contributes to schooling etc in the area. What is fails to mention is that you make your own way back via uber or train. I took the train but was assisted as far as the return platform and ubers are inexpensive.

A great experience

Ajay was the tour guide. As a former resident of the colony, Ajay was able to provide first-hand and insightful commentary on the Sanjay Colony. This included details about living and lifestyle conditions, local businesses, places of worship and schooling for children. It's also nice that a percentage of the tour price is reinvested for local projects. A thoroughly worthwhile tour for visitors to India.

Delhi Must-See!

Chad_B, Mar 2024
This is a very eye-opening experience we highly recommend to visitors of Delhi. Sam was very informative and passionate, and had a very personal connection with the community. The tour is safe but I do recommend closed toed shoes. There are two meeting times/locations, we chose the earlier time and our tour included a subway trip to the tour location, which was also something we wanted to do in the city.

Slum India is 🤩

Panupong_B, Mar 2024
The MVP is the tour guide, Doli. She is a superb guide, and her storytelling skill is impressive. Touring in slum sounds difficult, but this tour will introduce you slum in a way you will change your perception.

Great experience with a great guide. Money goes there where it is needed und used correctly. Furthermore there are some things really surprising: school, business, medical coverage - really good to see.

Low pressure, highly informative.

Kevin_H, Feb 2024
Nice relaxing walk. Everything clearly explained. No rush, no pressure. Ajay was great. Would do it again!

A must do in Delhi

mhcdr6gjpx, Feb 2024
That’s was such a great trip. I totally recommend. Very good tour guide who shared lots of information and an excellent price-value-ratio. Thank you!

Welcoming and Friendly

Gavin_H, Dec 2023
If your thinking should you or shouldn’t you do the tours of the slums just do it !!! This part of our trip was the most welcoming and friendly people in India!! With the kids buy crisps and sweets from the stalls inside the slums and hand them out the response is humbling and will put a huge smile on yours and their face !! They also love to talk to you in English The tour guide T was excellent friendly and doesn’t take it too seriously which lets you relax

An important experience

This is a must do when visiting New Dehli. It felt very safe and you learn a lot about the hard life of the proud people in Sanjay Colony. Our guide Cavita was very kind and made this a memorable experience.

Very insightful tour of Sanjay Colony Slum

Cameron_D, Sep 2023
This was a fantastic tour to see everyday life in one of Delhi's slums. It was great to help in changing perceptions of slum areas and of the people who live there, and to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for life in this area. Sam our guide was fantastic; he was really friendly and happy to answer our questions. It was also interesting hearing about the work the tour company does to support the local community via their education program.

Must do it…

JGarcia1975, Jun 2023
This tour was as expected, visiting local's in their environment. I felt save all time. Very interesting tour for a reasonable price that goes to the colony’s children.

Great tour

Lauren_P, Jun 2023
Really interesting and unique tour where you are able to meet the residents and get to know life in the colony. Unfortunately some things were closed on the day I was there but Stanley, our tour guide, was an excellent host. He provided lots of information and has perfect English.

Highly recommended

Nigel_H, May 2023
Fantastic tour. Never for one moment did we feel like we were intruding in their lives. The people living there were not affected by our presence and seemed happy to see us. The guide was knowledgeable and very considerate to the people there. He explained that a large percentage of the profits go back to the community in the form of education for the children within the slum community. It’s an eye opener for sure but in a positive way. Highly recommended.

Seeing the work that the residents do to make their community a successful life for them and their children without any significant help from the government.

Eye opener!

Alastair_B, Mar 2023
This tour was well led and gave a good insight into life in the colony. I particularly enjoyed seeing the school funded by the tour operator and the work it does to help the local children.

No fuss in the experience - Lasting impression - Highly recommend

Samuel_S, Dec 2022
Samuel from Ireland here - Sanjay Colony is connecting cramped streets with houses and stores on either side and with very little or no signage to stir anyone not from the area in the direction they may wish to go - thankfully this tour is available! I decided to do something different during my travels in India (which were predominantly in areas not as deprived as this). I appreciated my guide for helping to navigate the Sanjay colony and for insight into life there. Also, for providing good conversations and a pleasant outing. I include a picture of my guide (though we spoke at length on it, regrettably his name skips me) and two bright kids who approached us to say hello (I later learned one of the kids was the guide's nephew). Such bright smiles - bless them. As a head up here, I later learned the organizer's "reality tour and travel" also hosts tours around India, and the profits are used to help fund the free services they provide for communities such as Sanjay. i.e. perhaps you are reading this and have yet to book your tour of Delhi?..

Worth it!

Jan_W, Dec 2022
Just go and open your eyes :) It's a great experience to see how people live there and even tho they don't have a lot they keep the smile on their faces.

Highly recommended!

Maximilian_S, Mar 2020
You HAVE TO book it! It is an amazing experience. It is super safe and you will definetely meet super friendly people!! Highly recommended!

Amazing program

Melanie_M, Feb 2020
An amazing program. Not at all depressing. People we so friendly and seemed happy to see us in the community. The tour company runs educational programs there...so your money is reinvested in the community. Do this!!

Sanjay Colony Slum

Juanita_M, Feb 2020
Our guide was Chitty Chitty and he was very friendly and passionate. It was difficult to walk through through the slum because of the people's hardships, but I was grateful for the opportunity. I also appreciated that the tour company did not exploit the community.

Great

Arpn, Feb 2020
Our guide Chitti is very friendly and very polite, He showed us every aspect of slum life, how people are trying to improve their life with their daily works and he also shows us factory where women works on hourly basis and shows school, lead us to thier home and rooftop to show entire area In short it is nice tour with Chitti 🙂

Great company

Annette_R, Feb 2020

An eye-opening and uplifting experience

lanerl, Jan 2020
This is an excellent tour showing exactly what life is like for some of the poorest in India. Our wonderful guide, Hema, showed us the difficult working conditions of some of the people, but also what a thriving and supportive community Sanjay Colony is. Multiple religions live and celebrate together, doctors freely give their time, and all children attend school. It was enlightening and uplifting. I highly recommend this tour, especially as 80% of the fee goes into the community.

Wonderful insight into the colony

Richard_B, Nov 2019
Did the Sanjay Colony tour as a group of 4. Our guide was Hema, she is very passionate about the area and has a lovely sense of humour. Get a good overview of the colony, people very friendly, the children engaging, and just something everyone should do. 80 % of profits go back to supporting the colony.

A Different Perspective on Delhi

David_O, Oct 2019
Very interesting and enthusiastically presented by Hema(spelling?). It was sad that we could not see the school at work.
