Santan was our guide yesterday for the Zakhira tour. There were only three of us, including Santan, so it felt almost like a private experience—likely because the summer season is approaching and there are fewer tourists.
I wholeheartedly recommend Santan. He made the tour feel like a true journey: we met people, exchanged with them, and experienced moments of their daily lives in a genuine and respectful way. Throughout, we felt completely safe and welcomed.
This tour may not be for everyone, but if your intention is to embrace a more authentic side of Delhi - and India as a whole - I highly recommend it.
Santan’s connection with the community, his knowledge of the area’s history, and his openness in sharing all of it make him an exceptional guide.
Santan, my warmest gratitude for this meaningful experience.

Very humbling experience. I saw things I wouldn’t see anywhere else, the children were incredibly sweet and polite

Initially my wife was hesitant about doing this tour, as she didn't think it was right. But it's clear that Santan has a very close connection to this community and is helping them a lot. We understand that he is only one of two people not part of the community showing there way of life. It was very, very humbling. We would have no hesitation in recommending that you experience this whilst in Delhi.
We wish Santan all the luck in the world as he continues his support for this community and the setting up of educational programmes for the children. All our sincere love.

Santan was a superb guide as we toured the slum area for 2 hours . Santan has a great rapport with people there and I felt very comfortable. I was lucky as there were only 2 of us. Really makes you feel grateful for what we have. Santan also tries to educate the children , so I gave him a donation for supplies and I hope others will. He made sure I got my uber back and I appreciated that. Highly recommend this tour.

I highly recommend this tour for those who want to see another side of Delhi. Santan cares about this community and you can tell people also care about him. Everything is done with respect towards them so that they don't feel as if someone is intruding into their home. People are respectful and kind and they show interest in your presence there. Sharing a chai and getting to know more about the community and Santan's work was a very enriching experience. Furthermore, it's also nice to know that you're contributing a bit by participating in this tour. I'd also like to add that he was extra kind with me by allowing me to take part in the tour even though I arrived late since I was lost in the traffic of Delhi

This morning’s slum tour in Delhi ended up being one of the most meaningful things we’ve done. Our guide, Santan, has spent eight years walking these lanes and you can feel how much he cares. Everything was done with respect and never felt intrusive.
We shared Masala chai with a family who’ve lived in one of the original buildings for generations, wandered through narrow laneways and the local meat market, and got a glimpse into the real rhythms of the community.
It challenged every preconception we had and left us with a much deeper appreciation for Delhi and the people who call it home.

This was the This was the greatest tour I've taken. Felt real safe and cared for by all the people in the community. I seriously would do this tour again. Im truly impressed by all viator tours now. The tour guide santan is extremely nice..he cares for everybody in that community. Thank you santan for showing us all that did that tour that day a great memorable day. The kids of the community made it awesome. Each kid had their own personality. The community people made us all feel welcome. Especially when we had masal tea and a donut. Another great scene was the workers working on the tortilla things..simply amazing amazing

Santan is an incredible guide — warm, insightful and deeply respectful of the community. The tour felt very pure and authentic, not touristy at all. It gives you space to reflect on what truly matters, what you value in life, and how you can contribute to change in your own way.
One small thing I personally regretted was not bringing sweets for the children — they are so curious, open and joyful. It would have been a simple gesture that I think they would have appreciated.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a meaningful experience rather than just sightseeing. Santan makes it special.

This tour was beyond incredible. The guide was nothing but welcoming and knowledgeable, but most importantly made everyone involved and welcome. The experience I gained from this was incredible, and I genuinely couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone interested.

What a pure experience, and again what a guide! I’m beyond grateful that I could have a glimpse of what life in the slums look like, how privileged we are. One love, one heart share the awareness!

The tour offers a profound opportunity to understand the suffering of others and reflect on ourselves. My heartfelt wishes go out to all people and animals living on this land of struggle.

I really loved this tour because I came out with a new positive perspective of the slum. At first I felt really uncomfortable because it was something I never experienced before but the guide, Ankit took care of me every step of the along the way and made me feel more at ease as he greeted and talked with all the locals along the way. I can say this tour was the most eye opening experience I had in India so far and I would definitely recommend this tour to others.

Santan was my guide for the tour. After a short rickshaw ride we arrived ay the slum.
He is very knowledgeable about the area and the people who live there. He showed me the main shopping street and we stopped for a great cup of chai. It is a respectful tour and a "must do" whilst in Delhi.
Sandip_M, Oct 2024
My family and I had a great time, enjoyed the tea, and appreciated the company’s attitude towards the community.

This was the first time to visit slum for me. Thanks to a wonderful guide, Santan, it was definitely a great experience to see people there and know about their lives and community. Of course I don’t think I understood everything about slum because slum in each country is different but thus program is really good one to know it in India.

Very interesting visiting the Puppet slum! Listening artist playing instruments and making paintings. Highly recommended!
The guide is super nice!

We easily met Santan at the agreed time and he organised a short rickshaw ride to the area we were visiting. As we entered, it was clear Santan has a lovely relationship with the people who live there and it was a chatting to the community type tour. We felt very welcomed and we were offered delicious chai and henna painting on our hand. We particularly enjoyed meeting the people of the community and to see the smiles on the kids faces were everything. It was also very sweet to talk to the children and hear their names - we took along plenty of sweets and handed them out (they particularly liked lollipops!). Note there is also lots of shops / stalls within the area that you can buy from and give out. It was good to hear from Santan how money from the tour is reinvested back into helping members of the community - he is clearly a very kind and selfless individual. Even though it was a very hot day (in the 40s) most of the areas were in the shade, so don’t let warm weather put you off. If you would like an alternative experience from the ‘tourist traps’ and are open and respectful of how other people live, I would 100% recommend.

An incredible and thoughtful experience. Santan had a beautiful energy and the way he shares the stories of the community was super loving and in depth. We felt so welcomed and very safe during our tour. Thank you Santan!

I love to learn more about the locals and the reality of the people of the countries I visit, and this was a good way to do that. The slums are an alternate reality to what I'm used to so it was a very interesting experience to connect with the people and learn more about their culture and their day to day life. My guide Santan was extremely friendly, and made me feel safe at all times. We talked to a couple of the locals that he was familiar with, and he took me on a short walk around the area. Grateful to him for the experience, will definitely recommend
Tatiana_E, Apr 2024
It is not my first slum tour, and it was not such a big shock to me, but it is definitely something to experience in order to correct the personal focus.
The tour was well organised, the guide was punctual and knew the topic in debth. I can't say I enjoyed the tour as there is nothing to enjoy among people's misery, but I would definitely recommend it as a compulsory part of any trip to India. It will change your perspective about life values. Thumb up from me.

Santan my guide was a lovely person. He was very kind and caring and so respectful to the lovely people we visited. He asked us not to take photos once we entered the area which I thought was very considerate and respectful to the people living there. They were so happy to meet us and were fine to let us walk around and look at how they live. They had a lovely community spirit and had shops, food stalls etc. We watched a bakery in operation and sat down in a little shop for a tea. The children were so cute and very interested in us. It was a great experience and I’m so glad I did the tour and would recommend it to anyone. I felt very safe and comfortable. Definitely do this tour!!!

A good experience in Delhi. Santan was very attentive and he showed us a slum that he knew well. We were able to contact people who live there. And we could see the reality of Delhi.
Totally recommended if you have time in Delhi.

Santan was a very friendly guy who seemed to know everyone in the slum. I expected guns and crime stories but was shown everyday’s life of ordinary people. Eye opening experience!
Noa_M, Mar 2024
For people who being indecisive to take this tour since it’s quite controversial topic - it’s not a tour it’s more like an occasion to get to know the people/lives in the community and share your love. Tbh after this I got complicated feeling since I could offer nothing to change the situation but at least we could learn how the community itself runs sustainably somehow and what would be a significant key to help them become independent. Also, people in the community treat/trust the guide as family that helps me to feel get closer with them. Let’s share your love and learn about one real part of India!

We had opportunity to join a tour guided by Santan. The topic of poverty is very sensible, but Santan approaches the people from community with compassion and is being treated as an old friend.
We strongly recommend the activity for the ones who wish to step off the beaten path and learn about humanity.

The guide:
1. Engaging
2. Knowledgeable
3. Made us feel welcomed into the community we visited
4. Used our tips to buy food & treats for the children
5. Gave us an opportunity to go into the bakery to watch the men at work - I even had a go at making the feather bread which makes their daily production of 12,000 units, even more astounding
6. Had reservations about going to look at a slum but actually we were given an opportunity to meet a community who are happy & look after each other
7. We ate fantastic food
8. One of us enjoyed a fantastic head massage
The guide helped us to access at ATM afterwards.
He was very pleasant & we’d highly recommend him.
