What To Expect

Meet a guide at your Nairobi hotel for the trip to the Karen area of Nairobi, a leafy suburb at the edge of the Ngong Road Forest. Learn about the work of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife that’s headquartered at the Giraffe Centre, and hear the story of the Giraffe Centre’s most famous resident, a rescued giraffe calf from western Kenya named Daisy Rothschild.

Explore the non-profit Giraffe Centre, where Rothschild giraffes mingle with a herd of local warthogs in a semi-wild environment. Watch the giraffes cluster around their feeding station, extending their long, black tongues to lap up food. Leave the crowds behind on a small nature trail, listen to east African birdsong, and take in the plants that grow along the Gogo River—try to spot the resident giraffes as they sway through the forest.

After a 1-hour hike at a relaxed pace, leave the Giraffe Centre for the return trip to your hotel.

Shorter than than expected

Pickup was on time and we arrived early. The giraffe center is a very good experience overall but our guide moved us along quicker than we liked and we were back at the van in under an hour without having taken the included “1 hour nature walk”. After bringing that up he turned around and we did do the walk, which lasted 1/2 hour but that was sufficient.

Long drive and short visit

Long drive and a short stay at the Giraffe Center. It took almost an hour yo get there, spent about 25 - 30 minutes with the guide and then an hour and a half back. Very little info given. Not worth the $

Dear Kimberly, we take your sentiments very carefully. this is one top most attraction. You had clearly given us instructions as follows: *Hotel Pickup: The Social House Nairobi, The Social House Nairobi, James Gichuru Road, Nairobi, Kenya Special Requirements: I use a cane and have trouble standing for long periods of time* first of all there is nothing we can do about the distance travel in regard to where your hotel was located and the activity point. Its our obligation to pick and drop you form your hotel - traffics also plays a role here . Also, you were offered a wheelchair which you refused at the giraffe center. (please note that the giraffe center is built to enable use of wheel chair easily) as you could not stand for long you hurriedly requested the driver to leave. There was nothing the driver could do but agree to drive back to the hotel because you were already tired. the giraffe center is worth every coin and travelers and Kenyan citizenly love the place very much.

One of a Kind Experience

The Tour to Giraffe Center from Nairobi was amazing! It is a once in a lifetime experience to be able to interact with giraffes in their natural environment. It was also educational as there is an information session and information that you can read yourself to learn more about giraffes. It is a short excursion but very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this excursion for every and anyone.

Quick and expensive

I wanted to see the Giraffe Centre. I found the option of Viator and without checking other options I booked it. The description of the tour tells that the entire tour was about 3 hours, according to the traffic that in Nairobi could be very intense. Me and my guide stayed at the giraffe centre about 30 minutes. 30 minutes driving to go and about 30 mins to go back to the hotel. I have been a little disappointed, especially by the price I paid. More than 60 $, when the entrance was about 10 $. For 50 $ more I was expecting something more to feed with snacks to the giraffe and visit the little conference room inside. Next time I will take a 5$ taxi.

Dear Luigi, greetings of the day. As we all in Nairobi know that is the rainy season and as per our driver guide he also mentioned that you were worried about the rain. However, you did feed the giraffes twice as there were not many people and the giraffes were very cooperative. You also entered the museum (conference rooms) and he explained about the giraffes to you. The only place you didn't visit is the trail because it was slippery and we would not have wanted any injuries. the tour take 3 hour from pick up to attraction and back to your hotel. the transit time on that day took only 30minutes because there was no traffic, had there been traffic it would have take 1 hour and half one way. In addition, because of experience our drivers know how to avoid traffic and certain times. some hotel are also very far thus we give a general timing off-peak. In conclusion, we did offer the service. what am not sure is why you say you didn't feed the giraffes whereas you did feed them at least twice and took pictures, WHY?

Terrible tour, do not book

The worst, and I have to mention it again, the worst tour ever, do not ever book with them. The tour concludes with someone pick me up at hotel, drive me there, get to through the gate and after a few photos they drive you back. No communication, no instruction, rude and unprofessional driver (not even a tour guide that you expected). There was not even educational part of the centre provided. Let me tell what you can do, book a taxi, buy your own tickets to giraffe center and save half of the money and ignore this terrible tour.

We have noted that you were very uncollaborative from the pick up of your hotel althrough to the attractions point. As he was explaining to you he noted you were on the phone through out (face down) focused on your phone. At the attraction place he never left you alone, he also participated in taking you pictures with the giraffes while feeding them. so as the tour description we did our part. you also asked some unprofessional questions such as 'what is you job in this tour' , this infact is a very rude question and other questions you asked him. please note that it is important for travelers visiting other countries to have courtesy to the local citizens as well. you were profoundly, provoking so that you can ask for a refund, which you did on email and we declined. We also have to protect our driver guides from travellers who are rude and terrible on a case by case basis, such as this one. The giraffe center tour has been for a long time and we shall continue to offer it to all travellers who are very happy and receptive. with regards

Perfect short excursion

David was an amazing and friendly driver. Gave us interesting facts along the way about places in Nairobi. Hooked us up with the most informative guide at the giraffe center who knew the kindest and safest way to feed the giraffes for great photos. Tons of informative facts about the center and the fate of giraffes across Africa. Whole trip to and from hotel with the tour was 3 hours, perfect for a small excursion.

I did not like the fact that the tour guide insisted on taking me to 2 gift shops even though I said several times that I don’t want to do any shopping and Only wanted to visit the giraffe center. He did not really care , dropped me off with a sales person at the gift shop and went away to eat ( twice)
