This experience was absolutely amazing! Mary knew every plant, tree, and flower and how each one could be used. The waterfall was beautiful, but my favorite part was having fresh fruit from Mary’s garden. Mary’s spirit and personality is so much fun, positive, and vibrant. It was an honor to meet her. We had so much fun and will never forget this day!

First the tour guides were awesome. Tiva and Yvette were so fun and knowledgeable. Besides a really cool hike with some truly SPECTACULAR views we learned so much about Tahiti and the culture. And then the lunch afterwards was so good! And don't be a chicken... DO take a swim in the waterfall!

This was the best hike we have taken on all of our vacation! The guides were fantastic! So knowledgeable in history and fauna. It was so amazing to learn about plants that provide perfume, nail polish, paint, food both edible and poisonous. The swim at the waterfall was so beautiful. If you are not used to hiking it is a bit strenuous with the humidity but they helped me make it to the end which I am ever so grateful for (I an in my mid 60’s and not very physical). I would have missed out on. They provided a beautiful snack at the end and we tried fruit we never knew about. Please don’t miss out on this adventure.

Perfect for Garden Lovers & Cultural Enthusiasts!

Cheryl_R, Jul 2026
If you are interested in the Tahitian culture & use of different plants & flowers this is the tour for you! The very authentic (not commercial) tour through the botanical gardens and the presentation/sampling of the rich fruits of Moorea was in-depth, fun, and interesting. Both Marie and Teava were very knowledgeable and added a personal touch by sharing family stories. The hike to the falls was short but very steep, muddy, and slippery in places. The beautiful pool underneath the falls was chilly but refreshing and well worth it. My husband, who is not really a plant person, was not as impressed but I found it to be well worth it.

The guides were wonderful and the hike was great especially in the pouring rain. Would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous Half Day Cultural Hike to the Afareaiitu Waterfall:))

sara_k, Jun 2026
We had a fabulous hike with Tieva! He and Yvette are highly rated on this site, so they are the only two I will refer to here. Teva told us delightful stories about many of the trees and how they were used not only for their fruit and leaves, but for medicinal purposes. We stopped by the home of Cezar who together with his wife, have a beautiful botanica garden in their yard:) The trek up to the waterfall was a bit more challenging than my seventy something husband and I were aniticipating ( plus it was very muddy), but Teva and Cezar assisted us expertly along the way, The waterfall is so gorgeous !!(the pics do not do it justice!) We enjoyed the beauty of it, ants well as the sounds and fragrances. On the way down we stopped at Cezar's again, this time for a tasty fruit medlley of papaya, passion fruit, breadfruit, grapefrui and coconut, displayed lovingly with abundant flowers. Don't miss this experience! It was one of the highlights of our Moorea visit! Sara and Brad

Highly recommended particularly for lovers of plants and wanting to know more of Mo'orean culture.

Jacqueline_H, May 2026
We thoroughly enjoyed this experience! Teva is very charismatic and displayed his obvious love for Mo'orea, her people and her culture. Both he and MarieFrance were witty and engaging, keeping us informed and, importantly, safe during the walk. The part of the walk to the waterfall is not particularly challenging, however there are some steep parts with exposed roots, and it had been raining so was slippy in parts. The walk up to the garden, and the garden itself, is peppered with native plants; Teva and MariaFrance share a lot of information on the uses of these; who knew it takes 7 years for Vanilla to be ready? It was a pleasure to meet Caesar and his Mum, who own and work the land this tour takes you through. The trip ends with a fruit tasting session - Wow! Beautifully decorated table and numerous freshly prepared fruits to taste.

A good hike. The guy and his team took a good care of all of us throughout the hike. After the hike, a beautiful spread of fruit from the property was laid out for us. Highly recommend.

The ONLY way to see the waterfall and experience Mo’orea with local commentary and delicious fruit lunch

Marcia_J, Apr 2026
This experience was beyond magical, incredible and truly a MUST do when visiting Mo’orea! Yvette and Mary were the BEST guides who welcomed us into their beautiful garden world and and forest wonderland. They showed us flowers, mushrooms, plants, fruits, trees and natures’ wonders - some that were found by smell only! And the waterfall - was WOW! Just WOW! We swam, decorated the turtles with flowers to bless our day and returned to an absolutely incredible feast of island fruits that couldn’t have been more delicious. This day was an absolutely perfect way to experience the island with people who love their island and who shared their love with everyone while allowing you to enjoy an absolutely incredible waterfall and the wonders of nature.

Great hike!

10 out of 10 recommend! The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the island and clearly was very connected to the land. The water fall was beautiful (take something to swim in if you want to jump in!) and hike was very doable. It ended with a fruit tasting with fruits grown on their property where the hike started. Delicious way to end the hike!

Great waterfall hike

It was a phenomenal hike. Our guides were very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I would suggest hiking boots rather than sneakers.

A must do!

Diana_G, Nov 2025
Definitely a must do! The hike is fairly steep and some parts are slippery but definitely doable and worth it once you get to the waterfall. The water is so fresh and not deep at all. Yvette enhances the experience by showing you important flowers and facts about the Polynesian culture. I’m so glad we included this experience in our trip! This was definitely our favorite part of the trip.

Best guide ever! So much knowledge and great interaction with our little group. What a wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

Breathtaking scenery

Sarah_T, Oct 2025
Yvette is very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna from this region. She goes into depth with the information and even takes us to her jungle home before and after the hike. The hike was challenging especially after the rains but it was a great challenge. I would not recommend it for anyone who is mobility challenged. The waterfall was beautiful to swim in and then we ended up back at her jungle home and I really LOVED the various fruit we could taste surrounded by all her trees and vegetation. Overall a great trip and I would recommend it to all

Excellent guide, hike it on the extreme level- know your abilities

Suzanne_S, Sep 2025
First of all the guide Mary is an amazing guide. She knows everything about the vegetation and area you are hiking through. BUT... this is a difficult hike. The hike is very vert hard at times. Our hike was mostly a sharp slippery climb up and down a steep rocky narrow trail. Mary took amazing care of us, holding our hands, pulling us up, ect. But I still fell hard on my butt. I saw a few others fall and/or slip too. The rest of my group didn't seem to mind but I was scared and I'm someone who walks/hikes 5 to 7 miles a day. Maybe we just had an extremely wet day. I loved the guide and talk but the conditions were not my cup of tea.

Great Hike to the Waterfall!!

Barbara_A, Sep 2025
Sylvia was the best guide. She showed us so many different trees and plants. She moved at a comfortable pace and made the hike seem easy and fun. The trip ended with a cornucopia of local fruit they grew on their own land. I strongly recommend this trip.

Don't miss this one! It was a beautiful and interesting hike, the guides are very gracious, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Swimming at the waterfall was fun. The fruit snack was beautifully laid out and delicious.

Fantastic Experience!

Kathleen_C, May 2025
Can’t say enough about this experience!! Mary our tour guide was sweet, personable, and offered so much information about the island, her gardens, and the falls!! The hike was a bit slippery but Mary would help by showing you where to place your walking stick and would point out rocks to avoid. The swim in the falls was awesome! The hike ended with a delicious lunch of fruits from the gardens. Can’t recommend this tour enough!

Nicole_P, May 2025
Awesome morning hike! We learned so much before, during and after our hike. Our guide was super passionate about the island and all the plants in garden and along the hike. It was neat learning the history of how some of the plants came to the island and their historical and spiritual significance. The hike wasn’t overly challenging but can be muddy and slippery in spots. The hiking sticks provided made a huge difference. The fruit at the end was absolutely perfect and an amazing way to end the morning.

Absolutely magical experience — one of the best things we’ve done in Mo’orea!

Karolina_O, Mar 2025
We did the hike to the Afareaitu Waterfall and it was beyond incredible. Our guide, Teva, was AMAZING. My two boys adored him — he was full of knowledge about local plants and fruits, and was so kind, helpful, and patient, especially when we got in the water. The whole team wore their hearts on their sleeves. They were so real, so kind, and so clearly passionate about what they do. That energy made the hike truly unforgettable. The waterfall itself is heavenly — absolutely stunning. One of our guides even caught sweet water shrimp to show the kids, and we spotted some freshwater eels (don’t worry, they’re not dangerous — just super cool to see!). Pro tip: Don’t wear flip-flops. This hike definitely calls for good shoes with ankle support. Oh, and the fruit snack at the end? Ripe, sweet, and delicious — the perfect finish to an already perfect adventure. Can’t recommend this experience enough. We’re so grateful to Teva and the team for giving us such a beautiful, genuine day.

Do this tour!

Barbie_A, Mar 2025
Expect an amazing experience on this tour. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel, the Hilton. The hike is not strenuous, but it is rocky and wet in some spots. Mary and Teva told us all about the fruit trees and flowers along the hike - papaya, bananas, avocados, guava, all growing along the trail. The waterfall will cool you off as we got very sweaty on the hike. The best part was the table when we returned - filled with fresh fruit, sugar cane and juice. It was a very enjoyable and informative tour. Highly recommended!

Hiking Excursion Review

Belinda_R, Mar 2025
This was an incredible hiking excursion, and can't recommend it enough! Our guide was absolutely fantastic—funny, knowledgeable, and experienced. You could really tell how much she cares for her culture and enjoys sharing the island's history and plant life with others. She made the whole experience engaging and informative, making sure we appreciated every detail of the journey. She took the time to capture beautiful photos and videos of us at the waterfall, which was such a thoughtful touch. After the hike, her team surprised us with a beautiful and delicious plate of exotic fruit, picked fresh from her garden. It was the perfect end to an amazing adventure! If you're looking for a unique, adventurous experience, this hike is a must. The passion, care, and knowledge that our guide and her team put into this experience made it unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Our guide, Etienne was great. He did a great job of keeping our group together and explaining the history and natural beauty of the island. We also had a nice lunch break with a beautiful selection of fresh fruit.

Informative hike to a stunning private pool beneath a waterfall

Craig_M, Feb 2025
Yvette and her team are incredible ambassadors for their island. From the moment we booked to the time Yvette dropped us off at the ferry, we were in excellent hands. The tour is very well thought out, and the guides take every possible opportunity to make sure that your experience is first class. At the end of the tour we were treated to a phenomenal bounty of fruit grown onsite.

Stunning waterfall, awesome guide

Samantha_H, Jan 2025
What a wonderful experience! Yvette is a fantastic guide who shows you a ton of awesome flora & fauna. The hike to the waterfall was a bit slippery, but our guide made sure we knew what to do. Definitely wear your bathing suit so you can cool off in the gorgeous waterfall! Trust me, you’ll be dying to get in the cool water. Nightly recommend this tour!

Yvette is an amazing ball of energy and knowledge! She was lovely and kind. The entire experience was incredible!

Great food and weather not a factor at all

Abigail_R, Jan 2025
This tour was incredible even despite it pouring rain, our guides had ponchos for us even when we forgot ours. The trail appeared difficult but was very easy with our guides’ help! The food as well was amazing, we have never had fresher and more delicious fruits! Would absolutely recommend to anyone!

Family hike

We were a group of 10 ages 15-82, and our guide Sylvie was amazing. Very knowledgeable about everything, patient and fun. The waterfall swim was an incredible experience-Highly recommend this tour!

This the water fall hike you don’t want to miss!

Sandra_H, Dec 2024
What can I say? The weather was absolutely perfect. There was an overcast which helped shield us from the sun, along with the beautiful trees. Tevia was our travel guide and he was absolutely amazing! He gave us information about the plants, fruit, and flowers along the trail. You literally hike through the forest. The hike was no more than 30 mins each way. We were given walking sticks to assist us. It was slightly slippery so please bring good hiking shoes. After we leached the waterfall we went for a swim. It was so breathtaking! We hiked back down to a house that hosted us and we tried all of fruits native to the island. The mango and banana were my favorite. Thank you Tevia for being such an awesome host!
