No better than Pepe! He was so friendly, engaging, interested and knowledgeable. The information we received was tremendous while traveling in the car between locations and sight seeing. The balance of personal time as a family and the tour was perfect! He was great with my kids (12,10) and you could just feel his passion for the South of France and what it has to offer.

Please wait your tour guide at the exit of the ship/cruise terminal, do not start to walk in the port area. The tour departs from the pier shoreside. Once you disembark, whether there is a terminal building or not, your local tour guide will be waiting at the exit with a sign with your last name. The local tour guide will greet you and walk you to the transportation. This is important not to follow the green line on the floor. Please Note: It is important that you refrain from strolling about the harbor area and just go to the meeting location.

Itinerary

A friendly driver will greet you at the dock in Marseille and escort you through the Provençal countryside. While driving you to your destination, he will provide you with historical and cultural information about Provence. Upon arrival, you’ll disembark near Cours Mirabeau, Aix’s chic central thoroughfare lined with rich architecture, diverse markets, boutiques and cafés. Your driver will give you a map of the city and point the highlights of the town. It is now time to visit Aix. As you make your way to the Place du Général de Gaulle, admire vibrant 19th-century buildings and hear about some of the city’s famous visitors and sons, including Albert Camus, Paul Cézanne and Émile Zola.

Admire spectacular fountains such as the Four Dolphins Fountain, dating from 1667, and the Place d’Albertas fountain, and grand buildings like Cathédral Saint-Sauveur d’Aix and Hôtel de Ville (City Hall).

You will have some free time for lunch (not included) on your own.
The Crests roads will then lead you to the outstanding site of Cape Canaille from where you will enjoy the exceptional view on the bay. Cassis is a very ancient fishing port and the harbour is probably the most beautiful part of the village. You will have the possibility to board on a 1-hour boat trip (ticket not included) to discover 3 Calanques, steep-walled coves sheltering tiny harbours or beaches

Following your 7-hour tour, relax as your guide drives you back to port.

Tale of two Cities

This small group tour (eight people) gave us a chance to see two very different municipalities. In Aix en Provence, we were given the option of a guided tour by Audrey, our very amiable tour guide, or striking off on our own to explore the area. I chose the latter, although others on the tour said they enjoyed Audrey’s tour. From there, we were off to the small fishing village of Cassis, where we had a couple of hours to roam the town, have lunch or take a boat tour. (My lunch was one of the highlights of my entire cruise.). I consider this tour to be much preferable to a ship excursion, which usually is more expensive and has a much larger group.

Fantastic guide and a wonderful day in Provence

Full disclosure, our original tour was cancelled the day before we were scheduled to go because of a vehicle problem. We were offered a slightly different itinerary for a trip on the same day and time. Because we were coming in on a cruise ship, we chose the new trip. The communication from the tour provider was excellent. There was some complexity in finding the driver at port but I was contacted via WhatsApp and we were able to get things sorted and on our way. The team was patient and helpful while this was happening. As for the tour itself, the van was a very comfortable Mercedes van with good AC. Our tour guide, Emmanuel, was excellent. He spoke English very well and his knowledge of Provence and the surrounding areas was excellent. I loved all the stops we made and he always had great suggestions for photos or things to do and see. He really could not have been better. So while we ended up being on a slightly different tour than we planned, it could not have turned out better. I loved this tour and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Thank you Emmanuel for such a great tour of the Luberon!

A very good tour leaving Marseille. Most of our time was spent in Cassis and Aix En Provence. We took a boat ride in Cassis to see some hidden gems of coves. The pastries were delicious. We walked and ate in Aix En Provence. Beautiful city. Our guide Remmy did a good job of communicating history and answering questions. We had 'those' fellow tourists who asked idiotic questions all the time, and Remmy navigated them well for the benefits of the rest of us.

Great option for a cruise excursion

Our guide, Arnaud, was very kind. He drove us first to Aix where we wandered around and shopped. He then drove us to Cassis where we had lunch overlooking the water and did a little shopping. Arnaud gave us a lot of information about the areas while we were driving.

Excellent excursion to see beautiful parts of Provence

This trip completely met my goal of being able to see two beautiful and contrasting parts of Provence from a cruise without worrying about logistics. Very smooth experience, from pickup within the terminal so we don't even have to walk out, to drop off right on time. Sebastien was excellent and knowledgeable. I really appreciated the balance of short tour in Aix with time on our own in Aix and Cassis, because I prefer to do my own thing. I loved being able to catch a 1 hour boat ride to the calanques and relaxing on the beach (bring bathing suit and towel!). Note: this is not for those who want hand holding the whole way, nor for those who struggle to find your way back to a meeting place!

Essentially transportation, but great stops

This is a transportation only tour really. We had a great guide who gave us a few highlights on our way both stops. Once arriving you are on your own, which is what we wanted. The markets in Aix-en-Provence are amazing and the second stop Cassis is a great place to have lunch by the seaside. Try to local wine in Cassis, we had a local dry white Chardonnay which was amazing. July/August is hot and this is a walking at your own pace tour when you arrive at the stops.

Fun but guide needs more experience

Provence was great. Our guide was a nice young woman but very inexperienced. She walked too fast losing some of the group several times. The worst was losing us in the parking garage!!! She had a list of restaurants but never told us where they were.

Exceptional day

Our driver/guide Sylvia was exceptional. She was full of information and told us most interesting things. She even showed the 2 of us where the gallery was so that we could see some Cesanne. She also showed us the main sites in Marseille and still got back to the ship on time. This is one of the very best tours we have had.

A great private tour .

Julien was our driver/guide, we were only 4 in the clean vehicle. Proceeded to our visit, with all the explanation of what we met. Being French with a Français driver/guide was great. Julien made all the effort to explain and ensuring to fill our requirement vis-a-vis what we wanted to see, and brought us directly to the cruise ship.

We spent a lovely morning in Aix en Provence this week with a lovely guide named Julian.
