Excellent tour. We enjoyed a short boat ride to where the funicular for Monte Bre begins. Our guide, Cristina, is incredible. As a local, she is well-informed of the area's history; she is also exceptionally engaging and enjoys questions and conversation. The funicular (in 2 parts) ends at a panoramic site near the mountain's top. Then a walk down around the other side from Lugano to the charming and picturesque village of Bre, whose history Cristina explained -- and where she lives. Another walk around the side of the mountain (flat) to catch the funicular back.
Note: those who have limited mobility may have difficulty going down some of the steps from the panoramic spot to Bre.

Excellent tour. We enjoyed a short boat ride to where the funicular for Monte Bre begins. Our guide, Cristina, is incredible. As a local, she is well-informed of the area's history; she is also exceptionally engaging and enjoys questions and conversation. The funicular (in 2 parts) ends at a panoramic site near the mountain's top. Then a walk down around the other side from Lugano to the charming and picturesque village of Bre, whose history Cristina explained -- and where she lives. Wandering the streets of Bre and seeing the artwork, the wash trough and Wilhelm Schmidt's house now a museum. Our guide Katerina was able to present facts about being raised in Bre. The views from the terrace of the restaurant at the end of the funicular were splendid. Funicular is steep and hot.

The bird’s eye view of the beautiful lakes from Monte Bre was fantastic. However, the funicular ride was not to my expectation as it was hot and stuffy inside. You can only get a good view if you are at the front or back carriage. There was no break for a drink or snack during the 5-hour tour and it was tiring walking on the cobbled stones of the steps and paths leading down to the village Bre.

Christina was the best part of the trip! She was the best tour guide we’ve had. Monte bre views were beautiful, but the village she brought us to after was absolutely incredible. Such a wonderful way to spend your afternoon, do not skip this! Definitely be prepared to walk.

My family of 5 (kids ages 7, 12, and 15) really enjoyed this tour, especially the old town of Bre and all of the art around the historic village. It also was a good deal because it included the boat ride and the funicular. Our guide was really great and for adults the pacing was perfect. I held back a star because the heat made parts of the tour very difficult (not the guides fault at all, just unlucky timing with the weather and a lack of air in the funicular was stiflingly hot) but there wasn’t a break for a snack or drink until close to the end - around 5:45 pm - and we were totally wilted at that point. There was more walking than I anticipated and I was glad we didn’t have anyone elderly with us. I would recommend bringing your own snacks or leaving the tour at the end of Bre to eat up there on your own and ride the funicular down after.
