This tour offers 3 options: 1. Semi-Private Tour – Pickup directly from the pier where your ship docks. 2. Group Tour: Pickup from Largo della Pace cruise terminal. 3. Self-guided Exploration: Pickup from Largo della Pace cruise terminal. If you choose Semi-Private tour, it will depart straight from the pier for a seamless start to your adventure. If you select Group Tour, simply take the free shuttle bus from the pier to the Largo della Pace terminal, where we will meet you for pickup. Please note that the pickup time may be adjusted and will be communicated to you closer to the tour date. You will also receive clear and detailed pickup instructions to ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable experience. We recommend checking your email at least 12 hours before your scheduled activity, and we will also send this information to your phone via WhatsApp, iMessage, or SMS.

Terrible experience. Basically spent $600 for a ride to Rome and Back. All the rest was on our own with zero information. When booking this “tour” while it says self guided it leads you to believe there is much more than just a drop off and pick up.
Last minute the guide changed the stop off and pick up point which created a lot of confusion within the group. One lady missed a tour because of the last minute change.
If you want to go to stone to check out the sites on your own I would suggest a simple Chat GPT generated itinerary as it looks like that’s how this was put together.

Thank you for confirming that you booked the self-guided option. Please take another look at what this option includes: pickup from the cruise port, drop-off back at the cruise port, and round-trip transfer. Guide services, transportation within the city, food, and drinks are not included. Before suggesting alternative options to others, please check the taxi rate for your family. You will likely see that this option is still way more reasonable let alone assistance provided. As for Artificial Intelligence , it can be useful not only when travelling, but it can even replace the real experience by telling you all about Rome right inside the cabin of your MSC cruise ship.

The tour guide and driver were nice people and good at their jobs. The issue was the van was old and the A/C did not work well on a hot day in Rome. For the price we paid, it should have been a luxury, well functioning vehicle. The company overcharged in my opinion for a semi-private tour. For a much lower price we got a private tour van with a different company the next day to Florence.
The tour itself though was very good. Elizabeth is an experienced guide who showed us “insider” shortcuts to get in to see the crowded major attractions in Rome and shared wonderful stories about the history of the city, the Vatican etc. We even got to see the Pope (from far away, but live)! We had two seniors who could not walk far or very quickly in the heat, so this was not a good tour for them.

Regarding the van, we used a 3-year-old Mercedes-Benz Vito, which meets high standards of comfort by European regulations. While we understand preferences may vary, this model is considered among the most comfortable in its category.
Please also note that the air conditioning was functioning properly. However, by local rules and regulations, the temperature setting should not go below 23°C, and drivers are not permitted to run the AC while parked. These standards may differ from those commonly followed in the U.S.
As for pricing, Tuscany is generally more affordable than Rome. Additionally, Rome welcomes between 30 and 40 million visitors each year, which naturally influences pricing and availability.
