A few days ago we visited Elefantastic in Jaipur, and it remains one of the most meaningful experiences of our trip.
Before coming to India, we quietly wondered about how animals might be treated. Those concerns disappeared the moment we arrived. The care, respect, and genuine affection the team shows these elephants is obvious and reassuring.
On the way, we passed a group preparing another elephant for burial — a solemn reminder of the deep bond between people and these animals. It made our time there feel even more significant.
We spent the afternoon with Lucky, an elephant who was gentle, calm, and completely captivating. Feeding her, decorating her with natural colors, and helping bathe her felt peaceful, respectful, and personal. Her comfort clearly comes first here.
The warmth of the experience went beyond the elephants. The owner’s mother prepared a homemade lunch for us — simple, delicious, and offered with real kindness. It felt less like a tour and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.
Our driver was excellent as well — punctual, kind, and made the whole day smooth and easy.
One practical note for future visitors: on these tours, guides may offer to take you to artisan shops featuring local crafts such as rugs, jewelry, and textiles. You are never obligated to go, but the hosts will often give a very enthusiastic presentation about the craftsmanship and quality. I ended up buying something at each stop. Prices may be higher than in some markets, but bargaining is welcome, and everything we purchased has been excellent quality.
We left feeling grateful — for Lucky, for the people, and for an experience that felt genuine and heartfelt. Highly recommended.

It was such an incredible experience to be up close and personal with the 52 year old elephant, Pinky. She was so sweet and it very cool to feed her and watch her take a mud bath. It was so much fun to bathe her after and get sprayed by her as she enjoyed playing in the water. Plenty of beverages were provided like water, soda, and masala chai tea. The lunch at the home was delicious!!! I have zero tolerance for any spice at all and none of it was spicy at all. There was okra, chickpeas, and pumpkin. The home was very cool, clean, and comfortable. It was a great experience overall and would definitely recommend

You don't ride an elephant but you feed an elephant,. Our elephant was called Pinky. She was 30 year old circus elephant. We could pet her, paint her, take her for a walk, wah the paint off her and water her. It was the best experience we had in India.Pkay

It was our only chance to see elephants. Very tricky seeing them in wild. However, would have liked to have it be more informative/educational. The lunch was exceptional, especially the lively woman who cooked/served us.

If you do nothing else you need to go here. We loved it so much. We had a great driver who was well versed at navigating the Jaipur traffic to take us on the relatively short tri to the reserve. We had were privileged to have to company of Padama during our visit. She was so calm and just amazing. We were able to feed her, went for a slow amble along the road and helped with her bathing. You can tell the elephants are well loved and cared for. We had a short time with the owner of the reserve before lunch prepared by his mum.

Life changing! The elephants seem to be in a true sanctuary. They are not work elephants. They are rescued and living their best lives...from my observation. Fresh vegetables are provided to feed the gentle giants, an elephant walk, and a bath are all part of the experience. I found myself wondering how much it cost to ship a north and back to my house. I fell in love!

This was such a nice way to spend the morning and learn about the local elephants. Our driver was punctual and our new elephant friend, Pinky, was waiting for us when we arrived. We had so much fun feeding her, walking her, painting on her and washing her. The lunch offered was also delicious. Everyone was very hospitable and it was obvious the elephants were well taken care of. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved our time here with Padma, our elephant for the experience. The team takes great pride in their work and they spoil the elephants. There’s no riding, no bull hooks or cane hitting — just treats, gentle touch, a walk, and a spa session for the elephant where you shower them and brush their skin. Looking into the eyes of the gentle giants is an amazing experience. The lunch was vegetarian Indian (very good) and they offered us a selection of cold beverages multiple times. This facility is near the elephant village, which still uses their elephants for rides and weddings, and does not let them just be elephants like they do at Elefantastic!

From the very beginning, you can feel that this place is driven by genuine love and deep respect for animals. The owners take care of their 24 elephants with incredible dedication—and it truly shows.
We were able to feed the elephants, touch them, walk with them, and even help wash them. Nothing felt staged or forced for tourism; everything was calm, respectful, and clearly focused on the well-being of the animals. We also learned a lot about elephants and the inspiring history of this family-run organization.
Afterward, we were warmly invited to the family’s home to share a meal prepared by their mother. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was open, welcoming, and full of heart.
What makes this place even more special is that they also rescue injured cows from the streets, care for them until they recover, and then release them again.
We are more than impressed and recommend this place 100%. There are absolutely no ethical concerns here—this is a truly beautiful place where animals are genuinely loved. 🐘💛

A memorable experience! Appreciated the pickup and dropoff and a very nice driver. I was able to spend plenty of time with the elephant, feeding her lots of sugar cane. We went for a modest walk nearby and returned to wash her with a scrubbing brush. The experience finished with a nice meal prepared by the owner’s mother in her home, as I was made to feel welcomed. Highly recommend!

A lovely experience. The people at the sanctuary really appear to love and care for the elephants. We did everything promised in the activity description and the had a lovely home cooked meal and a chat with Rahul’s mom at her house. A rare opportunity to get close to the elephants in the company of some lovely people.

Excellent experience. I made the reservation the night before and was not sure what to expect. My driver Rahul picked me up at 9 am and took me to meet Padma the elephant. Given that it was off peak season I had a private meeting with her. I spent 30-40 min feeding her and then got to take her for a walk. Following the walk we gave her a bath. Afterwards Rahul took me to the home of the family who runs Elephantastic (also Rahul). I met the matriarch and she had prepared a nice lunch.
Everything was great for a fun and unique experience. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful experience at Elefantastic. We got to spend time with one beautiful gentle elephant and really enjoyed our visit and will never forget the experience. We were a little disappointed we only got to meet one elephant after being told the sanctuary have 24 elephants but we loved the time we spent with the elephant we did meet. The experience started with being picked up and traveling in comfort to the location which is in lovely grounds. We got to feed and stroke and then paint the elephant before walking with her to give her a bath with a large bowl and hosepipe. She really enjoyed her bath! We then walked with her before it was time to leave. We had been poorly so didn't visit the family for lunch.

A really nice time. The elephants were charming and surprisingly emotive. Our daughter’s initial anxiety at being so close to these huge beasts lasted all of 3 minutes - as she quickly came to regard them as more teddy bear than monster. Feeding, and helping to bathe, the elephants admitted of lots of opportunities for eye contact (which the sanctuary personnel encouraged). Once you’ve looked into the eyes of an elephant, you’ll never regard them as ‘mere’ animals again.

I had a great day at Elefantastic. I had never seen an elephant up close before: It was a fantastic experience and great privilege being able to feed the elephant cucumbers and greens and walk alongside her. Such beautiful creatures!

Happiest man in the world feeling blessed to be so up close and personal with the gentle giant!
After clear communication and punctual pickup and comfortable drive, I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxed atmosphere and easy chat with the all the guys and meeting Demba one of the 24 elephants in the sanctuary.
There was no rush or pressure but plenty of time for cuddling, feeding and more cuddling and selfies etc before giving the lovely lady a bath and a good old scrub which she was obviously enjoying!
I did skip the colouring bit before the bath as that would spoil the experience for me.
The lunch in the family home was scrumptious and very generous amounts of different dishes and mum is the loveliest lady!
Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity!!

Highly recommend doing this if you are in Jaipur! Was so fun to feed and bathe the elephants and you can tell they are really cared for at this sanctuary. Afterwards, you are brought to the family home for a meal cooked by Rahul's mother. Was delicious! And so special.

I recently visited an elephant sanctuary, and it was truly a dream come true! The experience was one of a kind, with the elephants clearly well taken care of. It was heartwarming to see how much the elephant’s caretaker truly cared for her; they clearly had a special bond, and he did an outstanding job. While the guide wasn't as engaging as I had hoped, the personal connection between the elephant and her caretaker more than made up for it.
Another great part of the trip was definitely the lunch at the family’s house. The food was incredible—flavorful but prepared with care, remembering to make it not spicy and using boiled water. It was amazing to get a glimpse into authentic Indian family life, and the hospitality was heartwarming. It’s an experience I’ll never forget!

The driver was on time, picked us up at our hotel where we drove for approximately one hour to the elephant sanctuary. We were greeted with cold beverages and then introduced to one of the elephants to feed and pet. The sanctuary guide was able to answer all questions we had about elephants and explained more about the sanctuary mission. We were continuously handed food to feed the elephant, and they showed us how to hand the elephant the food. We then had the opportunity to give the elephant water from the hose and scrub the elephants legs, as well as walk around the property with the elephant. We also had the opportunity to color the Holi colors on the elephant with chalk. They graciously took both pictures and videos throughout the experience. The driver then took us for a late lunch where the sanctuary’s owner was our host. We had a delicious vegetarian meal and it was like a host family sort of experience— a nice variation from yet another meal at a restaurant. This experience is good for people of all ages, including older adults and children.

This was such a lovely experience, I cannot recommend it enough! I was traveling solo and booked this as my morning activity, thinking it would be a zoo or something similar. To my surprise it was just a personal morning of me with an elephant named Padma and the employees at this lovely facility! I got to pet her for so long, fed her so much bamboo, paint her, wash her, and take her for a walk. This was an experience I'll cherish forever, and an opportunity I've never found anywhere else.

This was an amazing tour of the elephant sanctuary. We loved interacting with the elephant Padma. The elephant handlers and our driver were very punctual and respectful. I would highly recommend everyone to give this a try.
