Pros: the hike to the fairy pools was great, though strenuous. The Dunvegan castle was interesting and the gardens were beautiful. Rogie Falls was pretty, wish we had longer time there. We lucked out with the weather. But if it’s hot or wet, make sure you dress appropriately and bring bug spray for midges.
Cons: the description indicated we would spend time in Portree, but we never made it there. The time at the castle was too short. We could either do the castle or one of the gardens, but not both. The timing for lunch was late. There was an unnecessary stop early on at a gas station.
Our tour guide was awful. He didn’t guide us or share pertinent information. He told inappropriate and irrelevant stories focusing on himself or the cars around us. He didn’t introduce himself or go over the itinerary, and didn’t tell us we would not be going to Portree. The information that he did have had to be prompted by the participants in our van.
The tour met every expectation. Our guide was amazing with an energetic, upbeat attitude as well as great history of the area.
This was an absolutely magical day trip, albeit long, but that didn't matter. Our tour guide, Karen, was a gem. Very knowledgeable and friendly, but also a good stickler for time-keeping so we kept to our busy schedule. I would maybe have suggested 5-10 more mins at the first stop (water falls) and maybe 5-10 less for the restroom stop when we first made it onto Skye. Other than that everything was beyond perfect. Would highly recommend to all (with a fair level of physical fitness, as there is a lot of walking. We tracked 14,000 steps for our day!)
Perfect all day Isle of Skye experience.
Start early in the morning from Inverness (pack a breakfast and bring something to drink). Comfortable and easy to access mini bus. Our Guide was Tim-he was incredibly knowledgeable, wove together the past and present along with witty stories.
-light hike to a waterfall
-moderate hike to the fairy pools (about an hour). You can choose the pace and how far you hike but the main path in/out is a moderately steep incline.
-get the ticket to see the castle. It’s beautiful. You can eat lunch at the cafe and it’s good but it will take away from seeing the castle and grounds. Pack a sandwich and spend time more time in the castle.
-walk around Portree and see the beautiful town. Lots of artisan shops.
-brief stops to view some castles and beautiful views on the way back to Inverness.
It’s a full day but you get to spend a good amount of time at the individual sites. Tim was a great storyteller and also very attentive to the needs of everyone on the tour.
Wear comfortable waterproof shoes w good grip, dress in layers with a waterproof jacket (rain hat that secures under chin was super helpful), don’t bother w an umbrella-too windy. You can leave your bag on the bus so you don’t have to lug things around.
Sonia was a wonderful tour guide and driver. She was very informative and entertaining, but not too much that it was bothersome on the long trip. Although the tour is a long day, it was completely worth it. The Fairy Pools are beautiful and we really enjoyed Dunvegan Castle. We were fortunate that it was a beautiful day on the Isle of Skye when we went. We did feel a bit rushed in Portree because we were behind schedule, but all in all, it was a wonderful tour that I would recommend.
The Isle of Skye and Fairy Pool day trip was incredible. It was magical! Sonia was a lovely guide and made the trip memorable.
Martin was our tour guide for this trip and he was so fun and knowledgeable about all of the areas that we visited!
Was a great trip! Loads of things to see and all in one day! Karen, our guide, gave lotd of good history and sightseeing tips.
Our guide Louise was amazing. She was incredibly knowledgeable and had a wide array of local history and lore to share with us. She was very nice and funny too. We couldn’t have had a better tour guide.
This was a fun excursion with several stops and an amazing tour guide, Martin, who told us lots of history and fairytale stories.
Tim was absolutely lovely! He was a great tour guide with a wealth of history, knowledge, and humor. He didn't rush us at each stop and made the whole day super enjoyable.
Iain truly did amazing on this tour. It was just me and my family and he showed us an amazing adventure on Skye. Thank you so much.
Karen was a wonderful guide for a long, interesting tour. She never lost her enthusiasm for telling us about the sites we visited even though the tour was over 12 hours. The tour included so many interesting sites and experiences and traveling in the 16 passenger van was comfortable.
Very nice experience, the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The negative note is that we only saw the Eilean Donan and Urquhart castles from very far away; it would have been nice to see them up close for 5 minutes.
