The day doesn't consist of much except snorkeling. But that's all that is needed. I took my 6yr old as the "first time" snorkeling even though she'd been when she was a little younger and she loves it. Everyone is super friendly. Our guide is super nice and very kid friendly. They had a guy there taking pictures which are optional to buy. He was also extremely nice. You see all sorts of animals including sea turtles, sea urchins, sea stars, etc. All the salt water fish you see in pet stores are swimming past you. The water is warm and the area is not busy. Scuba diving is right next door so you can swim above them while they are below. We got in a total of 3 times, at around 30-40 min each. It's seems short but it's more than enough to get tired. Then you relax on the beach until the next go round. I would do it again if I come back to Hurghada.
