Excellent experience for families. We enjoyed holding the lamb at the end. Would recommend to travelers of all ages.

Loved the dogs and the information we were told about. The fort was eye opening to another way of life, everyone should see this for the history on life many many years ago. It was so fascinating, we are such an ungrateful generation. It was eye opening. The restaurant was fantastic as well, so go early enough to shop and have a meal. So glad to be able to visit!

I absolutely loved visiting Caherconnell! I took a taxi from Galway and it was my first time traveling through the Burren, which was stunning. I learned more about the Burren during the Caherconnell fort tour, and that was fascinating to me to learn and see the ruins. After, we were able to enjoy the sheepdog demonstration, which was a highlight from my entire trip to Ireland! I loved seeing the different personalities of the dogs, and their ability to work to move the herd of sheep was amazing. I loved learning about the different types of sheep, and holding the baby lambs was such an adorable and unique experience. I have already highly recommended this to several people! I loved the options for merchandise, and the store had an amazing array of Labaabaas to choose from as well, which was the perfect souvenir after spending a day with the sheep. I was so excited for the experience, and the staff were excited with me, and so knowledgeable about the area.

We had a lot of fun and both tour guides were amazing. Great cafe and gift shop as well. We would recommend this excursion

We began our visit at Caherconnell with a tour of the stone fort given by a truly kind, hilarious and enthusiastic guide named Sean. He was such a good sport and didn’t skimp on any aspect of the tour even though he would have been justified in doing so, since our visit happened to be on a day where the rain and wind were absurd. The history of the stone fort goes back millennia and the information we learned about the life of the inhabitants was fascinating.
After our tour of the stone fort, we were treated to an incredible display with the sheepdog demonstration. Caherconnell gets so many bonus points in our book for having the forethought to provide a shelter with covered seating to keep their guests comfortable in all weather.
The dogs are clearly very well cared for and well loved and their training was incredible to see. The shepherd giving the demonstration was also absolutely hilarious. We didn’t expect a comedy show during the sheepdog demonstration but that is what we got and it was delightful. It was also so great to see sheepdogs doing what they were born to do.
Everyone at Caherconnell, from the tour guide, the shepherd and the staff members working in the shop and cafe, were absolutely wonderful. We really could not have had a better experience.
If you love history, cute animals, and kind people, it would truly be a mistake to miss the experience Caherconnell offers.

Fabulous and knowledgeable tour of the fort followed by an excellent sheep v. border collie encounter.

This was truly a highlight of our trip to Ireland! The tour was well run and provided some really interesting historical knowledge - our tour guide Ian was very knowledge and fun!
The actual sheepdog demonstration was incredible!!! It was such a neat experience and the Shepherd did a fantastic job explaining the process. He was also very funny! The dogs and sheep were both so cute! We got the opportunity to pet the dogs after the demo and that was so lovely! The dogs themselves made a few errors but that actually may have been my favorite part - it was entertaining to watch the dogs live up to the personalities that the Shepherd detailed for each of them!
HIGHLY recommend for all - partners traveling, families, solo, etc.

Different experience! Lovely and informative staff! Fort tour with lecture. Loved the dogs!!! Don’t worry if it’s raining. Covered observation area enclosed on three sides! Loved the gift shop too!

The provider cancelled my booking the day before. The activity was still running as their website showed this and all tickets sold for the day. I suspect provider oversold tickets and cancelled the tickets purchased through viator!
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Hi Deborah,
Its so gratifying when you try to help someone out and they decide to be difficult instead of grateful, its a charming characteristic.
Tickets were sold out so no one else could purchase any given that we were forced to close.
When someone does a nice thing meant to save you some inconvenience the polite response is gratitude -
I'm sure with an attitude like this your experience in Ireland was a joyful as it should have been

The guided fort tour was informative and the guide made sure my daughter was engaged with his stories and jokes. We had excellent weather, but if you don’t, the herding demonstration was covered and enclosed on 3 sides. Add bonus, especially for younger kids, they let us pet the dogs at the end.

The fort tour and sheepdog demonstration both exceeded my expectations. Great day! Should not be missed. Patrick was very enjoyable with depth of knowledge along with humor.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Dear Eileen_C, we are delighted that our sheepdogs and our wonderful guide Pat exceeded your expectations! As well as a wonderful storyteller, Pat prides himself on his repertoire of jokes! Our 4 wonderful border collies are skilled, agile and love to 'wow' the audience. Thank you for your kind words, we are delighted you left us with fond memories.

This was such a great experience. While I booked primarily for the sheepdog experience, the fort tour was very informative and interesting and our guide was an expert in the subject matter. The sheepdog demonstration was also fascinating to see how the dogs have been trained and how they listen to certain commands. It was also great to get pictures with dogs after. Would recommend to anyone!

Dear Michell, thank you for sharing.......delighted you had a great experience. The dogs love to work and a wonderful rapport with their shepherd. Our tour guides are equally as enthusiastic about the history and archaeology associated with our amazing ring Fort. Thank you for visiting.

This is a fantastic experience! We began with a historical tour of the grounds and then got to watch the dogs work. They are truly incredible. At the end the farmer let everyone take pics with the dogs. My kids were in heaven.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Joanne, thank you, delighted to hear you enjoyed both activities.
The 'fab four' are indeed incredible, they love to show off their skills and individual personalities. The fort is steeped in history and our guide is very knowledgeable about its history and construction.

I was there mainly to see the sheep dog demo. I was surprisingly impressed with the fort tour. Well done, interesting and enjoyable.
The dog demo was as impressive as expected. Despite terrible weather, it was very entertaining and joyful. Lovely rapport between the trainer and the dogs.

Excellent job by tour guide. He was obviously an expert and enjoyed his work. The dog demo was outstanding. Difficult to see from the provided stands but we went to an outdoor area and had a great view. Again, excellent guide who thoroughly enjoys working with the dogs.
Anthony_L, Oct 2024
The entire experience was a delight. The tour guide was both knowledgeable AND humorous, the dogs are SO smart and hard working, the sheep are as beautiful as the grounds, the soup was warm & tasty on a cold day, the gift shop had plenty of treasures, and the staff was very pleasant!

This was a wonderful combination of the archeology tour of the round fort and the sheep dog demonstration. Very knowledgeable guides
Sabrina_R, Sep 2024
Definitely a highlight of our time spent in Ireland. The Fort was very interesting and our guide was very passionate. The dogs were amazing….like nothing we have ever seen before. The countryside was beautiful as well….quite a drive!!

It was good. Glad we went.
The dogs were so fun to watch.
Our guide was very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.

What a cool place. We came on a recommendation to see the sheepdog demonstration, but started with the fort tour and found the history interesting and immersive. Mindblowing to imagine living in this spot more than 1000 years ago. The sheepdogs did not disappoint. Amazing animals to watch work. And then my boys loved visiting with the dogs after. All of the staff were kind and helpful. Great visit!
Andre_D, Jul 2024
This was an awesome experience and the guide tour was so informative. Highly recommend. Their menu is also good food especially when windy and cooler they make good soup.

This was a great experience for our family, 5 adults and 5 children ages 7-12. All aspects of the excursion were first rate.
Stephanie, resident archeologist, did a great job of providing a detailed explanation of the site and the rest of the team did a fantastic job with the sheepdog demonstration. All walked away totally impressed with excursion.
Our 5 children absolutely loved seeing the sheep dogs in action and the staff took time to engage with them and answer all their questions.
This is definitely worth a stop on your next visit to the area!

This was a fun experience for our whole family. The staff was very kind. I wasn’t sure what to expect but they had a cafe for us to be able to grab lunch and then had a guided tour of the fort. The afternoon ended with a demonstration of the sheepdogs. It was really cool and everyone in our family enjoyed it!
Donna_C, Sep 2023
This was an interesting experience. It was worth the trip mostly because you see the demo with the dogs but also have the opportunity to see a historical round living compound that’s almost 5000 yrs old. It’s also a field classroom for archaeologists research. Shows the history through time and eras. Cool ride through the Burren.
Christina_S, Sep 2023
We really enjoyed the demonstration with the dogs. Our narrator, John (?) was wonderful at explaining all the traits and personalities of the dogs and how training them works. Having a teenager and husband, I loved the comparison of the younger 3yr old to a teenagers attitude and how male dogs just don't work as hard as the females. We learned a lot about the different sheep and the color markings.
Katherine_W, Aug 2023
This was well worth the trip! Really interesting tour of the Fort followed by a great Sheep Dog Demonstration. You can pet the dogs and sheep afterwards. There is a nice little gift shop and cafe for a quick bite. The staff were very nice!
We had a great time!

This was such a unique experience. We all loved both the sheepdog demonstration and the Fort tour. Lunch was yummy, too, looking over the green valley.
