Itinerary
Find out why the land’s original owners, the Butchulla people, named the island K’gari (paradise) on your full-day tour from Hervey Bay/Rainbow Beach.
Get an early start then catch the ferry to K’gari. Upon arrival, travel in an air-conditioned 4WD coach across the rough roads and sandy beaches of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed sand island.
Among the highlights, visit picture-perfect Lake McKenzie to take a dip in its clear water or lounge on its white–sand beach. Admire the crystal-clear waters of Wanggoolba Creek, located in Central Station, the former headquarters for the island's timber industry. Walk through a rainforest valley with ancient king ferns, towering ghost gum, and pine trees.
On Seventy-Five Mile Beach, drive down the sand and look for birds of prey and migrating humpback whales (July–November). An optional Fraser Island scenic flight is also available (at own expense). The coach meets the plane when it lands further down the beach.
Stop at the S.S. Maheno—wrecked during an out-of-season cyclone in 1935. Hear from your guide about local indigenous folklore and the geology behind the technicolor sand formations. Throughout the day, your guide shares commentary about the history, flora, and fauna of the island.
Enjoy a tasty lunch before catching the ferry back in the late afternoon. Your tour ends with drop-off in Hervey Bay.

The advert states travelling on a 4 WD bus and not to attend if you have a bad back. Just for information the ride was very fun and bumpy. My husband always ignores this but found it a bit painful at times. Be cautious if you choose to ignore the advice.
We had a fantastic day, the tour guide/driver was full of knowledge about the island. We also drove along the beach. Eli creek was awesome. Lake Mckenzie was beautiful.

It is a big busy day getting to see the main sites of K’gari, Maheno, Eli Creek, delicious lunch at Eurong, Central Station & Lake Mackenzie. Option of doing the scenic flight, taking off & landing on the beach is a great addition if you choose to do it.

It was a busy, but great day full of experiences and lots of knowledge from our guide Dean.We can highly recommended it.

Such an amazing experience at K'gari! Taylor/ Taylah was our guide and she was so warm, lovely and welcoming. Loved knowing about the history of K'gari and so many other tid bits. The island itself is absolutely beautiful. Fair bit of time spent in the bus itself, but it was to be expected so didn't bother us. Highly recommend the experience!

We had a great tour. The island is very interesting and scenic but it was really brought to life by Taylah our fabulous guide. She ran the show single handed including driving the amazing blue bus. She was bright and engaging and very knowledgeable. She piloted the bus with ease along the narrow sandy tracks while throwing out endless interesting facts. She even showed us a nest of the deadly K'Gari funnel web spider!

If you like to see all different kinds of places, vegetations, animals and history about Fraser island you could see in a day this is your tour.
Toni_C, Jul 2026
Great tour but felt rushed would have liked to of spent more time at places to explore a bit more. Only 25 minutes at McKenzie lake high a little sad
Elisabeth_T, Jun 2026
Sit at the front of the bus. Wear shorts or pants you can roll up or get wet. It’s still warm enough to swim (if you are 20 something).
Diane_B, Jun 2026
Well organised day. Comfortable bus considering the rough sandy roads of the island. Lovely morning tea and lunch. Our tour guide Butch was very informative a great driver and kept us up to date with the days events. We even were lucky enough to see lots of Dingoes. Great day out.
Roann_K, May 2026
A lot of money for someone to just drive you around the island in a bus. Do not recommend going to this island.
Alexandra_Z, May 2026
It‘s a full day trip with mainly driving through the rain forest and a few stops which aren‘t very long - the lake was one hour though which was the longest. The buffet lunch I certainly cant recommend.
It was ok to get a glimpse of K‘Gari. However, for 300AUD I wouldn‘t do this again.

Good experience, we felt well looked after. Good to see typical spots in one day. Pick up st Campground included.

First, Taylah was the best guide possible. She had all the knowledge I could absorb throughout the day and was very clear about what we were seeing and doing. She was a great driver, got us everywhere possible and made sure we saw dingoes. She even stopped for an echidna.
We took the official beach road, some chose to add a short flight. We saw the shipwreck and floated Eli Creek. Lunch was tasty and filling.
As a traveler you should know that once on the island (after the ride from the pick-up point to the ferry (40 minutes) and the 50-minute ferry ride to the island, you ride in a four-wheel drive bus on narrow sand roads which require that four-wheel drive. Though no fault of the guides, the roads can be very bumpy and difficult. Think in terms of severe jostling. I am glad I did it but I wouldn’t do it again. Sit as close as possible to the front of the bus and hold on. It helps a little.

This was an amazing tour! Our driver, Andrew, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We saw all of the main spots on the beautiful K’gari island. We even saw wild Dingos, which was a highlight.
Mickael_H, Mar 2026
You spend your all day in a big bus. Every spot are very short. And even if you want to do the plane. They need a minimum of three people. So they never came back to us to tell is impossible to do.
They do not have any flotation for the eli creek so you can not fully enjoy the experience. You can only watch other people have fun. Very frustrating day. If you want an advice. Do a private tour or do it by yourself. Cause the only thing that is worth it is the Mackenzie lac ( where we spend only 45’ )
shane_b, Mar 2026
Heavy rains but fabulous driver/guide, bumpy windy roads, fantastic lunch and great views. Mackenzie lake and the beach drive are definitely highlights!

Very punctual and bus was comfortable. John was polite and informative. Locations visited were great and time spent perfect

We had a fun day on K'gari ( Frazer) island. Due to registering late (the night before the trip) we meet the bus at the office and was taken to the barge and over to the island. The weather on the day was perfect. When we got to the island we meet our driver and 4wd bus what a big machine it is. We had been warned several times that the trip can be rough, so we expected to be thrown around a fair bit. The reality is yes there is a fair bit of side to side rocking but our driver was very good and careful and well that big bus I mentioned earlier also came into play. We found the drive not as bad as expected. The driver does have fairly strict time table he said we would travel about 120km over the dirt roads and 5 stops Central station the old logging town now mostly gone now but still interesting, then on to K'gari resort for a slightly early lunch to me this is the only disappointment part of the trip the supposed hot was cold, they did have fresh bread rolls very nice fruit & salad and the hot water for tea and coffee was not boiling. All in all a disappointing lunch. From there we went on the 75mile beach to the Maheno wreck and Eli Creek for a swim it is slightly cool water with a good flow. There was a chance here to go for a flight in a light aircraft over the northern part of the island sadly I could not talk my partner into it. From here we went back to the resort stopping a couple of times to see dingo's. The bus was washed and we had a 10 minute break. From here we went to lake McKenzie for more swimming this water is beautiful well worth the trip. From here back to Kingfisher resort and the barge home. What a day 9hrs all up. Our driver and guide keep up stories on the history and facts of the island, very interesting and informative. We were exhausted but happy with the day.

We had a great day exploring K’Gari. Our guide Steve was really informative and interesting. It was a bumpy ride, but always felt safe and he was clear about expectations.
Chrystle_C, Jan 2026
We had a great day! John was our guide, he was friendly, funny, and very entertaining. We learnt so much and had a great day checking out the island. We will definitely be back.
Dawn_T, Jan 2026
From beginning to end it ran like clock work. Fabulous tour guide informative and courteous Would certainly recommend this trip
laura_b, Jan 2026
A great day on the island with lots of info along the way. Lunch was lovely. You need a inflatable to enjoy the creek as its shallow, we didnt know that. Its an 11hr trip.
Claire_A, Jan 2026
A great experience. A very modern bus, albeit a bit bumpy due to the terrain. Our guide Jean was very informative. Lovely swim in lake Mackenzie and drive along the beach. We saw dingos and went to Eli Creek.
Shala_J, Jan 2026
You’re in for a big day but it’s a beautiful tour. The 9 hour timeframe doesn’t include travel to and from the island.
The day is well planned specifically to the weather and tide conditions.
All the staff were lovely to deal with, the whole day was wonderful.
Our tour guide was Taylah, she is an asset to the company. She’s such a beautiful and funny lady, and really made it a fun day.
Amin_Y, Dec 2025
One day tour is a bit rushed. But ok if you have time constrains or wanna know the place to go there on your own
Joanne_C, Dec 2025
I went on this tour with my 2 kids, 14 and 11. We really enjoyed the day. There’s quite a bit of driving, but still fun. The guide was very good, tells you a lot of information about the island. Was well worth the trip over. So much easier than trying to bring my own car over. Overall a great day!
Anders_I, Dec 2025
Good and adventurous tour, beautiful scenery driving on the beaches.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride :)
Superb bus driver and guide (John) at K'gari Explorer tours - in full control and fun comments and storytelling
Michael_C, Dec 2025
Well organised and saw a lot in the day but still did not feel too rushed. But would have chosen 2 day tour with hindsight. Our guide John was excellent very knowledgeable and empathy and love for island that shone through
